  • "Tenerife has gone to war with sun-soaked, beer-drinking Brits parying the Easter Holidays away and told them all to "GO HOME". Really? Let's discuss all the latest news regarding Tenerife Tourism and the Anti Tourism movement. Reports and articles have been spread all over the place, mainly in the UK media including articles in The Sun, Daily Mail, Birmingham Live and also a feature on Good Morning Britain on ITV. Is it all just click bait? I discuss all the details whilest taking a look around Los Cristianos, a main tourist resort in South Tenerife Canary Islands.

    It's not about British tourist, the problem is the massive tourism, we can't handle it. We are in housing crisis, half island is without water, and the hotels still have all the supplies, most of the money that tourist spend here is not destinated for us... I have no problem with tourists of course, I have it with my government, they don't care about us...

      Of course most of the money is not destined for you! Why would it be, unless you do something to generate it? I.e. by starting your own business that provides a valuable service that people want and appreciate. That's how life works! Try your islands without the tourism now. See how prosperous your barren little volcanos are then. We will go elsewhere where we are welcome and where our business is appreciated.

    This may be a little confrontational but some of the UK based Tenerife vloggers actively go out to find the cheapest travel, accommodation, food and drink, which probably doesn’t help the cause. Many other countries apply a tourist tax. A very balanced overview and I look forward to visiting Tenerife later this year.

    I don’t think Brits choose Tenerife as a cheap holiday …because it isn’t anymore far from it. The housing situation is a problem for residents but as you say it’s the government who need to deal with that…also people who own apartments in totally residential complexes should not be allowed to rent out to tourists, that needs addressing.

    • @daviddoyle5291
      @daviddoyle5291 Před 2 měsíci +2

      We live in a residential complex and recently some apts, have been rented out for tourists, we raised this with the Italian president and were fobbed off, lived in this complex a long long time and we are now selling up and leaving the island, complex has been ruined we are not the only ppl leaving our complex. Far too much corruption on this Island.

    • @Camel-Consultancy.
      @Camel-Consultancy. Před měsícem +1

      Most owners have bought abroad to gain an extra income by renting out. All complexes charge owners a monthly fee for the upkeep of gardens, pools, lifts, cleaning etc. Tourists do not know this. They just expect the magic fairy to come out every night while they are asleep and clean the place. A family once called me out at 8pm at night to get the wasps out of the pool for them, I did point out that that is why there is a big net at the side of the pool for their use. Needless to say I am not in property management any more.

    Hola. Soy canario y suelo ver tus vídeos. Queremos seguir recibiendo turistas, y son bienvenidos, por supuesto. Lo que está pasando es que algunas personas se están planteando cuál es el modelo que se debe seguir para que el desarrollo de la isla sea sostenible y se siga manteniendo como un sitio agradable para vivir y para ser visitado. Pero evidentemente, el problema no está en el turismo ni en los turistas.

      Pues, eso se están planteando de una manera muy ignorante y arrogante, entonces, lo que ya ha dañado enormemente la reputación de las islas entre los británicos y otros turistas, quienes ahora simplemente pensarán: 'os ayudaremos dejándote pudrirte en la pobreza en tus pequeñas islas aisladas. Iremos y gastaremos todo nuestro dinero en otro lugar, donde seamos bienvenidos y donde nuestro negocio sea apreciado. Entonces veremos cuán prósperos son para vosotros vuestros pequeños volcanes áridos.'

    I agree with all youre saying and the Canary weekly article is spot on. One thing authorities could do to bring down the cost of living and make more apartments available, is to restrict and regulate airbnb more. In other parts of Europe and the US you are only allowed to use airbnb for a short while. I can agree with the residents that it's not ok to buy apartments to put up for rent for a long time while you're not there. But local government could put an end to speculation like that if they want to.

    I went to Tenerife last March and not one local made me feel unwelcome. It was actually an old batty on a tour of La Gomera who complained there was too many people now. She complained that the restaurant wasn’t good enough and the tour last time was better. Anyway no matter where you go some locals won’t particularly care for tourists.

    Complaints about “foreigners buying housing and raising prices” is omnipresent. I know when I lived in Florida during Covid that was the accusation against rich Northeastern Americans moving there. The only thing worse than outsiders buying real estate, is not having them invest in it!

      @@literary_ana It’s important for local authorities to use new revenue for the benefit of the locals in general. As an example I wouldn’t like loud drunk tourists fighting each other every weekend, but if schools improved and there were improved recreational areas for locals, I might be ok with the change. One thing I’d implement in tourism areas is diverting som taxes toward entrepreneurial business programs and scholarships for students.

    Out in Tenerife at the moment, staying at the Torres Del Sol on the edge of Los Cristianos and Las Americas, had a great 10 days so far and home next Friday. Right next to Las Vistas beach and close to Camison beach. Been coming to Tenerife regularly since the early 80’s, simply love the place. No sign of unwelcome demos or sign writing, swim in the sea every day and really enjoy a pint when coming off the beach. Hope I don’t upset too many people.

Cheltenham was on and found many Brits mainly groups of men were shameful and I could understand why the locals were unhappy with them. They were shouting and swearing, saw some trouble, they were drinking from lunchtime to midnight, some could hardly walk due to drink. I am talking about Funchal &El Mirador strips. We won’t come again at this time. We noticed a big change. Spanish owners above me have recently acquired a VV in a residential complex and are Air B and B’ing. We now have noisy mainlanders just visiting for the weekend! Also in my complex it is any nationality other than Brits who are buying apartments. The Belgians have overtaken the Brits as predominant owners where I am. The thing is that and tourist tax DOES NOT help in repairing the roads and paths etc, look at the council tax in the UK, it goes up every year and there are no changes seen.
    The Governments in each country take and use it for their own usage.
    Tourist taxes drive people away to other countries like Turkey.

    The north is originally where all the locals lived as it had cooler climates, forests, etc and the south was just a rock. The foreigners built the south by in large and now that it is booming the locals want to live there and cash in. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you, I can guarantee most of the islands income comes from the south. The apartment my parents bought late 80’s in the south was built by the British and Tavio was more then willing to sell land to them to build. Got an issue speak to the Tavio family and not blame the buyers. Typical

    Hi Andrew great Tenerife vlog update.
    Think British media making it sound really bad in reality looks pretty friendly great place go on holiday.
    If we took notice half things media says wouldn’t go anywhere on holiday.
    I agree small protest from residents moaning about tourists but as I’ve said previously if no tourists went to Tenerife no money coming in to the island businesses cut jobs revenue dry up as you said it’s Spanish government needs sort out housing crisis for locals not the tourists many thanks for your update👍

      Unfortunately a lot off the money never ends up on the island. People book with an international travel agent the hotels are owned by large corporations that are not based on the island and most off the job that tourism creates are very low paid.

    Tenerife would be broken without British tourists, I don’t mean people going for the booze up either but families too, British would never be told not to come or leave unless you are breaking laws and causing troubles for all other locals and holiday makers. Lovely place , come enjoy.

    Hi, just found this channel. I have been in Tenerife for 7 weeks, staying in Palm Mar which is less than 10km drive from Los Christianos. Last month graffiti was sprayed overnight in Palm Mar in multiple places. I must admit as a tourist it made you feel totally unwelcome. What is worse is that it took several days for most of the graffiti to be removed, there is still some remaining after a month or so. It is my belief that the Tenerife government needs to sort the very real issues that the protesters have. If this movement was to gather steam it will have an effect on tourism as you will genuinely feel unwelcome.

      You shouldn’t boycott Tenerife, we’ve been going multiple times a year for many years and never seen or heard of any trouble. It all sounds like the U.K. media trying to put people off so they spend their money in the U.K.! Sorry my money is going to Tenerife - it’s like our second home always found the locals very friendly and welcoming. Please don’t listen to U.K. media!

    People will rather rent air b&b because like your said of the less hassle, the tenant gets too many rights and want everything for free it’s same in UK because of nightmare tenants, government issues not tourists, if you take away tourists, look at the uk seaside towns they are falling apart from no tourism, tenerife wouldn’t survive without the tourists

  • @rixis2940
    @rixis2940 Před 2 měsíci +1

    Shouldn't touch renters rights as then you'll get landlords kicking people out without good reason. Just put a high tax on airbnb properties that makes it so renting is a much better option.
