So here’s what I noticed and as of Nov 25, 2020 the costs online. 1) PC- Omen $850-1k ( depends on options) 2) TrackRacer.com rig - TR8 Mach3 $ 650 ( w/o shipping) no seat as a choice ( also can get rig w/ a seat) $80- seat slider option 3) Seat- REAL race seat Sparco - Pro2000 QRT $ 825 ( w/o shipping ) FIA legal for actual racing! 4) Wheel- Fanatec Podium Racing Wheel for Xbox & PC w/ 1x Podium DD1 base and 1x Podium Advanced Paddle Module ( all 3 bundled together) $ 1,649.95 ( w/o shipping) 5) Fanatec Clubsport Pedals V3 $359.95 ( maybe he has )- V3 damper kit $79.95 For tuning the Brake pedal 6) small ring lights for CZcams -$15 x 2 7) webcam- ? It’s 4K so probably $80-100. 8) Samsung curved 49” gaming monitor $ 749.99 ( was $900-1,100) 9) cables and other misc. to hook it all up $50 10) plastic snap together flooring -$45 11) headphones w/ mic- unknown Ok- that’s what I noticed. Now, as a former sponsored driver with “ buddies “ some items might have been discounted. Overnight shipping had to be expensive due to IndyCar deadline for this first race. But if the Sparco seat shout out was worth $825 maybe it was? I did read was someone estimated $7-9k and JoNew replied he didn’t spend that much. He’s a household name and deals get offered. But if you or I want the same set up ( which I’m doing), I’ve budgeted 7k due to the cost of the monitor dropping, and I don’t have to get stuff shipped overnight. I've been following this iRacing stuff as closely as possible because it's a history making dream come true. And, let's be honest, this wouldn't have happened in any other way if not for the social distancing. Josef, I've become a fan of yours over the last 3 years, not just because you're an amazing driver, but mostly because of your personality and how you do things with your team. This video just continues to reinforce my appreciation for you as a person and a professional. I hope you're having fun with this, it's a blast to watch it all unfold. I had two things up on my dual monitors yesterday, the main IndyCar broadcast, and your live stream. lol. I plan on rocking that setup for the next 5 weeks! Let's do this!
Try testing out a VR headset if you can get a hold of one. Way more immersive plus its easier to see apexes. Downside is it gets a little uncomfortable in long races. Best of luck in series🏁 Cheers 🍺

TT definitely not for situation awareness / immersion. Your Field Of View is massively compromised with a single screen (unless you have a massively wide, curved display). Monitors are able to provide better resolution / FPS with current technology - but nothing compares in the immersion factor compared to VR. Period. End of story.

Hey Josef, how much different is Forza to a simulator like iracing? I just got sent home from college to my brothers xbox so I just bought FM7 and a wheel. I'd figure your opinion is better than anybody on how much better/realistic iracing is over Forza
Kind of an apples to oranges comparison. They’re both really great. I spent a ton of time on Forza growing up and I really like that it’s as simple as grabbing your control and hitting the power button on your Xbox.
hey man, id look at a load cell brake mod for your pedal set up. non load cell brake pedals register pedal postition, where as a load cell brake measures brake pressure, its much better for muscule memory, and as a wise old sim racing sage once said, "its not the wheel or seat that makes you faster, its the brakes" .
Very nice, also expensive for the average gamer. What spec is your pc? I always wonder what cpu / gpu real racers are using as you most likely have a bigger budget to work with. And having the right spec components will make a big difference in the online racing experience.
So you now no longer just gave race car driver as a title but... You can apply if need be as a metal fabricator. Who knew that sim racing would be so beneficial.
They should get paid more, but most of their earnings/monetary rewards for wins/poles etc go right back into racing, re-funding an expensive passion. Worth it for sure! IndyCar drivers are cheated compared to other sports and most other types of racing.
@@pulverapa1580 I've priced out my dream electronics for my rig, and not including computer, or monitor 4 grand was the low end, then you have 3-4 for the comp and monitor plus 1-2 for the chassis. Im not sure how high end he bought, but top end is 40k for consumer type.
So how much did it cost? I think the cheapest way would be to use a regular home computer with two screams. You'd proably have to use 3 monitors and the four arrows on yoru compugter as the sterring wheel and teh mouse as the accelerator or throttle. I'm guessing at all that because I asked someomne yesterday on chat about it adn they told me tey had a computer with 3 screen monitors adn it was perfect. I coudn't use that because I"m legally blind adn I have to have a magnitication program to enlarge almost everything although I can watch videos and movies on youtube on my screem without having to use the magnification program, but to gert on youtube for example and select the video I want to watch I need my issist (magnification program.)
I csn go into an arcade game room though adn drive an arcde game car if I want to becase it's big enough to see becasue I've doen it before although I probably wouldn't be very good at it, but if I could I'd love to try, preferrably at home.

@@JosefNewgarden If you can mate, try moving the monitor as close as you can to your eyes and setting a mathematically correct Field of View (FOV). There's a calculator in iRacing to help. It will help a lot with driving consistently though you will need to sacrifice some peripheral vision. I have the same monitor about 21 inches from my eyes and my FOV is set to 99. Some people run it higher to keep a bit more peripheral vision. Good luck!

Really. I got a better computer than I had for free. A friend bought a new computer, because theirs was running so slow. Knowing solid state things like this don't slow down, something has to slow it down. It was amazing how much better it ran when I cleaned out the pound or two of cat fur that was in it, and the 20 or so items running in the background when you started it up. And yes, they had it on the floor.
Man, I sure would like an "intermediate" setup. That thing is ballin.

Like he said, he wants something that works with Xbox. The Fanatec DD is the only direct drive that works on console. It's still an amazing setup.
Definitely go for aluminum profile the next chance you get. You'll love it vs tube style like the track racer or RSeat.

That monitor is wobbling pretty good. After racing with three screens, I don’t think I could ever go back to even a super wide single

You need a stand alone monitor stand. That thing is shaking all over the place.

That monitor is shaking constantly. That doesn't seem sturdy at all, I do prefer the ultrawide instead of triples tho.
We tightened it up quite a bit after this. This was just the first laps.

He needs to fix his FOV. I would find it impossible to tell what the car was doing and hit my lines with that FOV.

Everything cool my friend, EXCEPT IRACING its a piece of s........its an amazing money plataform, but as a sim, its far away from assetto, even raceroom, and not even to mention to rfactor2, hope Indycar switch some esports to rfactor 2 like other series are doing, IMSA LE MANS THE RACE with those great tournaments on recent weeks etc, really dont understand why iracing has so many suscribers. , absurd ...a hug from Ecuador Joseph , all the best on this new Indycar year

Really. I got a better computer than I had for free. A friend bought a new computer, because theirs was running so slow. Knowing solid state things like this don't slow down, something has to slow it down.
It was amazing how much better it ran when I cleaned out the pound or two of cat fur that was in it, and the 20 or so items running in the background when you started it up. And yes, they had it on the floor.
