Thanks for the review. The MMO elements are worrying me. Been watching some gameplay with too much dialogue and running.

The running isn't too bad but I really wish we unlocked the mount. However, it's not too different from say running through D2 for the first time, in fact there's a lot more running in D2 or D3 act 1 than here.

there are some mmo elements but other than that diablo 4 really isnt an mmo. I did see players frequently mainly because everyone is in act 1 only and even still it wasn't that common. Running around is quite minimal compared to other games and much less than lost ark. The mount isn't even needed in act 1 as exploring around you move quick enough.
Also all dibalo 2-3 were end game was for d2 8 man grouping and baal runs or in d2r ubers and hell key runs. Diablo 3 4 man parties were very common as its always more efficient to do things in groups than solo.
The cutscenes and story have been on point with the dark gritty atmosphere that is supposed to be here. Still not quite as good as d2 atmo but its close. The combat is clean and ranged is just fine as is melee but it does take more skill to run a ranged build. Apparently earlier tests ranged was too strong and some things have changed. All classes are quite fun to play through and it doesn't take long to unlock a spender and basic skill but the game definitely flows more as you level which many players feel too close to d3 that way even though its much better than d2 system consicering how clunky it was and everyone just using teleport speed running and mashing one maybe 2-3 skills rather than having a kit that flows well together.
The dialogue is a first in diablo and adds much more to the world than the other games did npcs and people feel alive and mean something even compared to an mmo. Gathering is a nice add on and its not too complex compared to ahem other games and their systems that most players avoid because its too complex. Complexity can be great but when it stifles you player base looking at spreadsheets most players do not enjoy that content or min maxing most players want to experience and have fun going through the world and the complexity is enough compared to d2 and especially d3 where it offers a nice balance at least so far. The extra up and down to the world also adds much more to the game.
Its pretty much an arpg thats semi open world but you can meet some other players which honestly makes the world feel alive as if something is happening vs just a linear design running through.
