- What do data analysts DO?! Here's a project walkthrough for an entry level data analyst! This goes by fast because we're on tiktok, it's okay if you need to pause or rewatch for it to make sense. Any data analytics project essentially boils down to: 1. Locate the data using SQL 2. Select the data using SQL 3. Visualize the data using Tableau 4. Explain the results via email, in a PowerPoint, in a meeting... whatever works for that particular project. For all my recommended resources on how to learn this for FREE, start my free course! 🥰
Check out the FREE data analytics course in my profile 🥰

DA here, you skipped the part where:
1. Your boss never asks you a question that direct. It’s usually vague and you have to develop an interrogation technique to get that info out of them.
2. Oh wouldn’t it be so nice if all the data was in one table, never is, never clean, and has a bunch of acronyms that have 0 documentation.
3. Please, please do not just do a select * of everything, you see there are these things called querying/computation costs which will make your data engineer pull their hair out.
4. And finally, once you provide the analysis in a nice dashboard with filters and visuals, your boss will say “nice, can you get me that on excel”
Sounds about right😂😂
Thanks for the reality check. Apart from that, can you explain the part about point 3 where you brought in computational costs? What does that mean?
correct!
Computational costs?
Also a data analyst here.
You summed it up perfectly.
Yeh, but the reality is usually more like... "what were our sales numbers last year, the data's spread across 3 databases because of the tech migration last year, and Aaron in finance thinks there's been double tracking since we rolled out GA4, so can you iron that out and reduce the total to account for the average value of order returns, but only for new customers, from France."
Yeah this sounds just about right 🤣
Sick. Tbh sounds great
This is spot on. Especially the tech migration... do you work at the same company as me?? haha
Sounds like I need to choose a different field to study 😭
This actually makes me very happy because my intro to database class covers all this including normlization and design .
Next year we get to use if statements and while loops for complex queries with many many tables
At this rate, I think I just want to flip burgers for a living.
This just randomly burst me up ahahaha
it can be fun for a while, especially working with friends, but it sucks to realize all u can afford for an hour of your work is a burger (sometimes not even).
@@TheRussianRob I should provide some context. I have an engineering PhD and I been struggling to get job industry in fields like engineering, data science, and R&D. I do have an engineering job but it entry level and they keep me on the production floor.

Now if only entry level/ junior positions still existed
I saw a junior data analyst role the other day with a 2-7 year experience requirement 😂 We can only dream
Just.... ask the accountants for the figures.
Exactly
Exactly that
i came here to find out whether i wanna be a business or a data analyst, and i choose databases over human interactions every day ty, all i needed
ehhhhm nope, this kind of tasks would go to the junior data analyst to see if they can use a computer
this is an entry level example!
haha - yup!
@@CharlotteChazeBreakIntoTech people love to be quick to try and make a point. But his response literally validated your video. Lol.
Lol exactly
😂😂😂 I’m a junior analyst don’t do me like this
Haha...here's a tip from a data analyst at a top 5 tech company. Literally, as part of my annual evaluation, 75% of my job is interacting with stakeholders. Learn softskills and be curious.
Part of the problem (you're it)
The hardest part - yes. I love to work with computers not people.
@@mad1337nes explain
Please can you be my mentor. I’m a university student from Nigeria and I want to learn data analysis.
"muh soft skills" 🤢
The comment section is waaaay more informative than the video. Thanks for putting the video, i got soo many answers from the comment section
Imagine all this data presented in Japanese corporate reports with explanations and business strategies. My job is to translate it all. I've had days where I could stop for 36 hours straight due to tight deadlines and suddenly having more work piled on. Most days are between 12 and 18 hours.
I am just switching my career into data analysis. I have started learning SQL, Power BI, Excel, and Tableau. This short video was helpful for me to know about the non-technological part of this job i.e., something not related to tools and answering "why" and not "how." I needed a mix of both.
Subscribing the channel! 👍
Tell me honestly if you can give me an example of using mean median and mode in real life and don't give it here.. tell yourself.. the answer may help you figure out if this is the right job for you.
@@picklenickilsorry mate I was also told him to check AI tools but admin deleted my comment. It seems like now its your turn =)
@@picklenickilI can think of a million different times I'd use mean median and mode
@@picklenickilI have a mean of 2 bathroom visits per each work day. The median number of screams while taking a dump at work is 3. The mode of the number of people in the men's room is 4.
This is exactly what i was looking for, thank you!
I'm working through a SQL workbook right now. My problem is my schedule is so hectic that I usually have a week or 2 on and a week or 2 off studying, and every time I go a few days off I feel like I forget everything.
Could you give me the name of the workbook your working from. Can I get it from amazon. If you don't mind, please!
Sounds like the career for me!
I understand this is an entry level example but doing this from home sounds like bliss
Or just log into your CRM and it’s literally in the sales dashboard which is the first thing you’ll see.
Who is gonna configure that for you? Who do you think built any CRM data model?
Better to gather the raw data and scrub if you are allowed and have the time
Lol 😂 its like saying car mechanics isnt needed because you only need to turn the car on 😂😂
Ha. That's funny, but there are a lot of companies that don't store their sales data in hubspot
@@wt2219tbf in many companies, a person must have both skills in data analysis and data engineering. At least from my experience. Yea of course a monkey could do what she said, but you need to know the other stuff to make money. Probably different in a large company where they do hire monkeys for data analysis 😂
Oh yeah I can definitely use public stock stuff for practice data
im no data analyst (im more into machine learning) but ive heard a lot of what data analysts do is draw conclusions from data. lets say you take all those points on from the database and you turn them into some kind of graph. in some cases you have to then explain to non data analysts what different trends in data mean (such as a rise of sales with time, etc). some trends in data are very difficult to visualize though. imagine trying to make a diagram which shows how 5 different variables relate with one other one; it would typically difficult to find and probably even harder to understand semantically.
great tip! Thanks for sharing your insights.
Thank you so much love from India 🇮🇳❤❤
Yeah cause Oracle tables are always clearly named with logical joins
Why do you have sales for different months in different tables? Just standardise the rows and put them all in one table for easier querying across larger timeframes
I get what she’s trying to do but it can be very misleading for newbies… it’s like telling people Print(“Hello World”) is all Python coding is about.
Agreed… she not building and just using view of 2021 figures
However I do applaud her effort
I wish if knowing just this would land me a job
Tldr at a fundamental level it's just searching at an advanced level, bonus points if you get to write data to the table and do testing for product integrations.
Basically sales manager Monday morning
I didn't know this was a job. I want this job. Where do I go to acquire this career?
Lol leaving the payment info (credit card numbers) visible is top tier. Gonna go order me a new pair of boots!
OMG I just noticed that. 😵💫
😂😂😂😂😂😂
As a bookkeeper, I'd pull a Profit and Loss and/or a Sales by Product/Service Summary.
You missed the part where you realize this table has none of the variables your looking for, so you have to spend time investigating how these tables and fields are calculated. Then spend more time validating than actually generating the report.
Oh yea, last step: realize the new variables you cane up with don't align with what youd expect to see in the validation phase so you return back the the analysis phase and repeat the process.
One additional step for extra credit:
Turn the project in to the necessary stakeholders, and get asked for additional requirements that are out of scope
It's pain. If a project need 14 days to complete, out of these 14 days 10 are require to understand the data, it's granularity, each col calculation, unpivot the data, clean it, trim it, create view, check the view then finally create your desire project
Wish the underlying database is as simple as that and if so all data analysts would loose jobs with genAI
This is what anyone with Salesforce access can do on excel. Loll if DA is this no one is paying them anything.
do you have any videos that related to what tools DA beginners need in order to run their task & solving a problem? thanks!
Or.....1500 rows of code because all business processes where never designee with data analytics in mind 😅
Thats true, you would work with db 90% and 10% python or any like..

I also aspire to be data analytics and I am currently pursuing it.

I'd like to ask the question? What would be the best direction to going about obtaining the necessary training for this as Microsoft no longer offers their dba certs?
why not like make a script and add an Large language model to it that is fine tuned on your past reports to get money without lifting a finger
I’ve always wanted to know that too. I’m like this seems like a cool job but I have no idea what I do like I need to actually visually see it.
Learn sql, excel and python for data analytics. Then learn stuff like power bi or tablou for data visualization.
With sql studio the data you will need to answer the question comes from synchronizing the sql software with actual company data?
Is the problem statement depends on the stakeholders or the data analyst also needs to do that on their own sometimes ?
what will happen if they asking a question and the data points dont exist
Stupid question but why did you put the command on the 3rd line or does it not matter where you put it?
Your using sql just write a program to bring that data in useful.
Why would you have a table called sales2021 rather than have a table called sales with a column for the date? Would the sales table really include details for the 'cost'?
She made a PPT for this. This is how you would know she is a real Analyst.😁
make more video like this please what data analyst do,how to become, Daily in life. life from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
Wait you left out some random old employee sends you his spreadsheet with random formulas and hidden columns for you to use as your source data... Oh and six columns named the same but with "old", "older", "oldest" and the favorite "test oldest"
Data Analyst RULE!!!
Basically, you just replace an accountant
I thought data analysts used windows due to the better version of excell
I’m a Mac user and always avoided data analysis for that exact reason
This job should not need a degree it’s so basic
It doesn't need a degree. And she just gave a very stupidly simple task. Actual data analytics work is more difficult.
The demo 'task' is the 5 minute job on the back of whole projects. How df did the database get populated in the first place
You can literally get a Power BI or Salesforce certification and qualify for these positions. She just gave you an example of one simply task
i got seasick watching that video :D
Aren’t you guys have something more advanced like synapse analytics, or data factory or big query or other data warehouse solutions that does all that with a single click & powerBI dashboard
That select * 😂…
I am a data analyst and didn't know about it
This seems more like a business accountant task to do.
Man in done with cleaning, extracting🤣🤣🤣🤣 creating pipe lines.but still it pays well I'm sick
When you got to the sales data table you should of said “this sounds like the answer but it isn’t. Someone created this table years ago and due to the spaghetti code of due to adding products, the data is all messed up!”
Sounds so boring
I have been a data analyst all my career life, I didn't know
Exact. Been going in and out of backend so many years spilling out on sheets for users to enjoy.
I know how to boil eggs, maybe I am chef😊
Mostly data cleaning because of messy business processes
All that sales information should be implemented into Excel
Im an engineer but i work with a lot of data and analysis type projects. Sometimes im the only engineer and its funny to write like 10 lines of code and call it a day
I see it every day and it bits me...I want the job damn it!
@harrymandel 😅😅 it's always fun to be in meetings and they say "shout out me *me for doing such a great job on this new sales algorithm!" And I'm just thinking don't clap for me clap for chat gtp and all the time I spent texting
He asks for profit and u don’t have cost in the table saying that this is all the information u need, u r fired lol
Where do I send the check?
😮😢😂😅😊
Your what software? Sequel?
And this is how you bring down the production database. I sure hope you are limiting your queries.
Not performance issues with *
If you sort the comments by date, you can see how a huge fraction of the comments are coming from the ignorant.
Data analytics is less about the tools and more about the ability to sort information and determine the correct conclusion.
It's the reason why a lot of programmers never go beyond the basics.
None of them develop basic analytical skills.
Homie your house alone is worth more than my house, car and PC combined. I'm sure the money is worth it.
Rule number 1
Don’t use select * 😂
It's fine for a one off query on a smaller database
As data analyst, i spend 80% my time just for data cleaning and 20% to analize😅
Nah, it's on 5 excel sheets. One is in SharePoint, 4 are on personal One drives. 1 is on a desktop. Oh, and the dates are not in date format. Ok kids, have fun!
so basic SQL is all you need?
Also, data analytics and data analysis are two seperate things
What is the difference
@@inspira. Google
So a data analyst is basically the Lord or Lady of the SQL?
Yes
@@darienford860 95% of tasks in real business it is SQL. It is more clear and faster way. Python only for some math modelling. Of course you can use Python pandas for all data manipulation but it is not good way.
When it comes to finding and exporting data yes. When it comes to managing the data base definitely not unless you work at a smaller company.
Do u need to kno code?
Chandler Bing type shit
Basic sql?
Bro that's completely misguiding explanation..
Data Analysts do far more than that.

😅😅😅 Nice 👌
If you have a table in your DB called 'Sales2021', someone who sort of knows what they're doing already did your job for you. If my analyst created a table like this in our reporting database, they wouldn't have a job anymore. Being a data analyst is like driving a car. Knowing how to drive a car doesn't make you any more capable of getting to your final destination if you don't have a map or know how to explore the city/town you're in. Databases are NEVER this obvious.

Do you use mostly Sql or excel in your job?
Its mostly a combination, sql for fetching excel for doing reports
@@andresitomanuelew, use power bi or tableau for reports, excel is for 1990s reports
Data analysis = sql? I guess if oversimplification is a skill, data analysts must be the most qualified then.
But then, you still need to refine the data because there are values that are broken haha
You need to get new Microsoft 360 with AI integration and don't tell your boss about it cos he will fire you, cos you basically not needed
So all you need to know is how to write the most basic query? Really, what is the point of this video?
