  • Finally got to get out on the trails with my beautiful wife Kala, and her 97 TJ "Lil Sketchy" We have been building this jeep together for a long time, and in this video we give a little shakedown run on the trails at Gulches Off Road Park, in Laurens County S.C.
    some specs : 5.3 LS, 08 Superduty axles, 40" TSL SX2s, Artec front truss, DIY Hyrdo assist with PSC ram, 5.38 gears, Yukon grizzly lockers front and rear, metal cloak 6" springs up front, 14" travel shocks, stretched 7" out back.. we give some more info on the build, some background on the jeep, and we get to see just what kind of a beating this lil jeep can take as she tackles some of the tougher trails that gulches has to offer. stock XJ leaf Springs and 15" travel shocks, Motobilt Stretch bumper to end up with a 105" wheelbase.
    New T-shirts, tank tops, and hoodies available on our teespring store!

    nice build. good team. i can say everyone needs swampers in their life. i have a set of 34x10.50/17 for my 2021 zr2 and it just goes. not like yours but amazing just the same. i am leaning towards a yj build for retirement fun. time to get sketchy.

    Love this build. I would like to know more on the rear setup please. What leafs you use?

    • @SketchyJeeps
      @SketchyJeeps  Před 3 lety +2

      thanks! it's a Motobilt YJ rear stretch bumper, uses stock XJ leaf springs flipped, with the barnes 1" stretch perches on the sterling, it ended up with around 8" rear stretch. we're currently using stock crown XJ leaf springs. with no bumpstops out back it gets crazy good flex, but goes through springs quick (2-3 trips and they are flattened) going to move to 3" lift spring and add bumpstop and see how that works.

    • @SketchyJeeps
      @SketchyJeeps  Před 3 lety +1

      also, we have a ruff stuff Antiwrap bar, works awesome, no axle wrap to speak of, which is what usually destroys the xj springs when you flip them. I think our issue is just too much flex wearing the springs out.

    What psi were you running in those TSL's?

    • @SketchyJeeps
      @SketchyJeeps  Před 2 lety

      Pretty sure they were around 15 or so. They are a super stiff compound and didn't flex very good. We ended up cutting them up to get some better traction, did beadlocks, now we run them at about 3-5 PSI. They do much better...but the SX2 is just too hard of a compound to be useful.

  • @xjbeater8638
    @xjbeater8638 Před 3 lety +1

    I got a another question for ya bro. So got my bumper still need my fuel cell. When going from stock tj coils to xj leafs I’ll probably go stock height. You use stock xj leafs right? And your rocking 40”tires?lol

    • @xjbeater8638
      @xjbeater8638 Před 3 lety +1

      As in would I have to have huge tires on 8.8 to look right or 35 do? Thanks

    • @SketchyJeeps
      @SketchyJeeps  Před 3 lety

      yes we used stock xj leaf springs, if i had to guess, that setup, with the larger axle tube of the sterling 10.5 axle, and height of spring perches, it equals about a 4.5" lift. because it sits lower in the back and the front is on 6" metalcloak springs. I'll say we tossed some 35s on it and it looked pretty goofy with the comp cut lol
