Well I'd argue that Germany and the allies both played a part in the area back in WW2 so the mission creep is a bit expired by now. It's not really anything new. Kinda embarrassing that NATO have to call Australia and NZ partners rather than allies when they both had boots on the ground in Europe when NATO's founders won all those years ago.
