Its an interesting technique. I was fishing today and asked a friend why does anyone need a 16 foot crappie rod, and you answered that question. We fish brush piles mostly so the length is of no significance to us but I could see using your set up if fishing alone some times of the year. Thanks!
Depends though, I fish some shallower lakes where a lot of the time they are suspended around 8-12 feet on structure. I find that sometimes vertical jigging with my preferred 10 footers is a little too close and they seem to be more skittish. I added a trolling motor nut a couple of years ago and it seemed to help maybe a little bit...maybe... but there are times where it seems even one or two feet extra reach makes a difference. Especially, if there is a little bit of wind and my motor has to work harder to stay on spot and they get that little woosh of water coming their way from time to time.

I have one of them Caddis float tube that I had stored away for centuries, I'm finally thinking of taking it out hence I found a bridge nearby that occupy Crappies; you can't really get hits from the bank, they're more towards the deep center. This would be a first on the tube, I was thinking if this method would work on the tube - but I figure my legs would be down the water which may repeal nearby crappies. Anyone crappie fish w/ a float tube and have any techniques they're willing to share? ;] The depth 'seems' fairly deep if anyone wants to get technical, I haven't confirmed it myself.
Anybody hating on him for fishing with more than 1 rod have obviously never heard of striper, mahi mahi, tuna, mackerel, marlin, walleye ... the list goes on and on.
mrdr89, it is practical and somewhat affordable, His poles are reasonable, You dont need much of a reel if any, and if You have some cordination You can run the troller and fish at the same time, I have less than $75 in a 14ft pole and close out spinning reel, then $100 for fancy 4 pole T bar, and bought a two seat pedasil I think was $100 also, My wife and/or buddys sit side by side and run 4 poles (Ohio) law with double minnow rigs and kill um, check out Ed's prices then do some math You will be surprised
I'm sure this setup works well but it isn't practical for someone who is just getting into fishing. You probably have well into $1000 with just the fishfinder and trolling motor, add in all those poles/reels and I bet you are closer to $2000. Also, how do you fish with other people? Would you have the same setup in the back of the boat as well?
+mrdr89 My dad and I used to spider fish a lot when I was younger. 1-2 poles a piece in a john boat. He'd sit in the front seat to run the trolling motor, and let his poles hang off the left side and I'd sit in the back with my poles off the right side. It wasn't a big boat and as long as we payed attention, no one got a hook stuck in them. lol Rod holders aren't mandatory and fancy equipment can make things easier but keep in mind that if it came down to it you can catch fish with a hand line and worms you found near by if you had to. The fish don't care about fancy equipment.
I have had a school of white bass hit every hook I have had in the water all at the same time.It might have taken me 30 minutes to sort that out.You have to cut everything loose and retie it all.Today I will not use more than 3 or 4 rods. Schools of white bass are not your friend if you are trolling with multiple jig poles.A large catfish can cause problems also.

Different states have different regulations. Colorado has a one rod limit unless you buy a special second rod stamp. Tennessee, on the other hand, has no limit on how many rods you can use.
If my state allows 10 rods...I'm using 10 rods...I can only use 2 ..One crew of guys with 8 rods a piece could effectively wipe out a pond on a weekend.

Wow, all those rods, plus a depth finder, just to catch a fish. That's the silliest, most unsporting, most asinine thing I've seen since CZcams was invented. It wouldn't even be legal in my state. If you need all those rods, and if you need a depth finer, to catch crappie, you are not an angler, you just an untalented pretender. You can't begin to know how silly you look sitting behind all those rods. Of, plus a trolling motor. I can imagine how people caught so many thousands of fish before fancy rods, depth finders, autp pilot trolling motors, and pure laziness were invented. What a joke.
I do agree I am watching because I'm only 12 and learning how to fish with just a pole Xd and he so advanced and he only caught 4 in the video and also people fish so they can sell them and make money that why people fish too
This is how we all do it down here in the south. Hell, there are crappie guides and their method is spider rigging. I just got into it. It has re-lit the fire in my fishing heart. This guy makes it look easy, but its constantly re-baiting, re-tying your lines, taking fish off.

In Indiana 1 man can only have 3 poles legally. Everyone should check their own state's laws before trying this.
Here in GA we can fish with as many as you want.

This might be a good technique but it doesn't look like a lot of fun. Use a good ultra light rod and fight the fish a bit.
