- Two young women pick up a mysterious hitchhiker.
TRUNK SPACE is used with permission from Max Silver. Learn more at maxjsilver.com.
Anna and Priss are on a road trip across a sun-soaked, desolate stretch of the desert when Anna decides to pick up a mysterious hitchhiker by the side of the road, a decision Priss disagrees with.
The hitchhiker both sparks Anna's interest and incurs Priss's annoyance, and the trio constantly negotiates ever-shifting undercurrents of intrigue and hostility. But as the conversation unfolds -- and the hitchhiker acts strangely -- the pair begin to wonder if the man they've picked up has dangerous intentions.
Writer/director Max Silver, along with producer Rachel Sklar, have crafted a suspenseful, clever thriller that continually pulls viewers in with its potent mix of glossy yet gritty visuals, deft storytelling and high-adrenaline action.
The film is contained narratively to what's essentially one long scene, but within that stretch is a well-plotted and well-written roller-coaster of a story that understands how to set up viewer expectations, elongate them for maximum tension -- and then expertly skew them to generate even more surprise.
Top-notch visuals also go far to continually engage and intrigue the eye, and the camerawork mixes sweeping desert views with more intimate shots and editing within the car, tracking the interplay of conversation and subtext. The two female leads banter and spar as they bring the dialogue to life, with Jessica Jade Andres as the hyperconfident extrovert next to Kate Krieger's more closed-off, skeptical Priss.
They're engaging as two modern, independent young women out on an adventure, although that adventure is not what it seems, especially as we slowly uncover the mystery of their hitchhiker -- played with snake-like charisma by Jordan Turchin -- through their eyes. The story meticulously constructs its central mystery of the hitchhiker with well-placed breadcrumbs of clues, and what they discover eventually leads to a pulse-racing, gripping and gristly climax.
TRUNK SPACE is a stylish, suspenseful piece of entertainment, offering feature-worthy production values while keeping the storytelling smart and focused for its short narrative scale. It seems to read as just another action-thriller on the surface, but with a well-placed (and very fun) twist, it teases that its glossiness actually belies other secrets and meanings worthy of re-watching, as well as a darker underbelly than initially thought. It's that primal fear and curiosity of looking under the lid of the box -- and discovering what's underneath is murkier and more disturbing than you could ever imagine. - Krátké a kreslené filmy

@@johnster1285 I agree
I picked up a hitchhiker a few years back outside a small convenience store. He was an older man wearing clean, yet older cloths. We engaged in the usual small talk when two strangers meet, talked about the weather, local sports, a little politics. As people become more comfortable with each other they start to open up and tell one another things, even if they've only met a short time ago. The man told me he spent 20 years in a maximum security insane asylum. Naturally, I asked why. He said his friend's head was discovered in his back yard along with a few "bits and pieces". I simply replied "Is that right? Well, my condolences for your friend". The man chuckled and said with a grin "Yeah, it is what it is". His response didn't make me uneasy, but I do err on the side of caution. So I made a gesture towards my right hip and drew my side arm in plane view, placing it in the door pocket of my truck. I told him "Just so we're clear, that's not the only one I have on me". He scoffed and mumbled something under his breath. The rest of the ride was met with relative silence, the man only speaking when giving directions to his destination.
What an experience!
Had he made a move, how would you have managed to shoot him while driving?
I picked someone up walking a rural highway, a young looking kid, maybe 20. I had seen a car broken down a few miles back, and figured it was his. I was right, he just wanted a ride to a pay phone to call for a tow. (this was the mid 1990's). It wasnt really a big deal. He made his call, and I dropped him back at his car. He then pulled out about a half ounce of weed, and gave it to me, and a $100 bill. Gave me his phone number if I ever needed more. He became my weed hookup until I moved out of state 5 years later. Some times things work out well. 😂

This is one the best short films I've watched in long period of time. Well performed and produced. In less than 15 minutes it successfully develops all the characters so that everything fits!!!
1. That was an extremely unexpected plot twist
2. I was really starting to wonder why it was called, "Trunk Space". Now I know why...
I like how the girl driving made a reference to cutting off heads by slicing her finger around her beck and it made the girl in the backseat laugh, did anyone else notice that
Yeah, now that you said it... I remember.
That line made it too obvious in my opinion
At 5:51
Also at 12:20 you can see “Jackass” on the bag, meanig they killed Priscillas ex boyfriend, Jackass Jeremy
Put time stamps dummy
I noticed the guy changed his behavior a bit more after the phone received signal. Sure, he was being mysterious/suspicious at first, but once the phone got signal, and he saw a notification about killers and decapitated heads, he gave the phone to Priscilla. That's when he decided he had to kill them, or be killed.
Priscilla was trying to warn Anna that the guy knows what they are up to, but she was too late... almost.
I think you're own to something. He keeps on glancing at Priscilla to gage her reaction. Slowly you can see him make a calculation about what is going on. The first moment that he starts getting suspicious is when she gestured "cut things off" at 5:50
Omg so he only did it because he saw the warnings!
@@girligirlish1 that's what I'm thinking. He was broke down on the side of the road and got a ride from them. at first I think he was just being creepy and playing with them to see if he could scare them until he realized what was actually happening and decided that he had to murder them.
well he easily could have left or killed them yet he tried to do it all serial killerish which is why this a terrible episode.. lots of forced interaction, dialogue and behavior.. pretty awful but creative idea I guess.
That explains why he grabbed the fries. To make sure it wasn't a weapon. Maybe I'm reaching but still.
At first, I thought the two girls were serial killers. It was honestly the way the pair wore their sunglasses. They had that killer look in their eyes. Then when the passenger said "Can I confess something? You should've listened to your friend." I thought I was wrong. Then they showed the trunk and I was like "Oh, so everyone is just a killer now!?"

Honestly I had to watch it again after the end, all the foreshadowing in the beginning, her stitching the bags, them talking about all the men before, saying "We don't have signals, remember Pressilla" and them looking at each other, him looking at priss and ahhhh the second time was so worth it. You never know true colours, damn
Day Seas or when she says “picking up the creepiest guys in the country” her friends looks at her like stop being dramatic but in actuality, she looks at her because she almost gave away their true intentions
3rd time and still seeing new things1
Are they like vigilantes, taking revenge on the "bad guys"?
@@coleplastaras2712 or when she says “cut him off”
Also with the scene talking about "Jeremy Jackass" and then the last bag has "Jackass" on it
Bravo! Just brilliantly done. The attention to detail was a treat!
My only nit pick would be that I wished they labeled the guy’s head bag ‘serial killer’, rather than hitchiker.
Watched this twice and noticed so many more details!
"I know that the guys we have met so far have not been the finest examples, but you'll never know who you are going to meet next. He could even be the one!" If a guy does not meet their expectations he's a goner.
OMG that's probably true
ive watched this like 10 times and it makes more sense every time omg
Sooo basically they only killed men who tried to attack them? Ha! Makes sense and they were hoping he was going to be one of the good ones but it turns out he wasn’t and attacked them so they killed him too.
The same idea as behind the movie "Knock Knock"
From the way she said it, I thought "the one" meant that he was going to be their next meal
"was it because your a cripple"
"he didn't mean to offend"
what?
do be offended easily
