I think Gary has proved millions of times that he is not "everyone" or "anyone".

It's tough to see Gary at such a hard place in his life, but it helped make him the humble, considerate, REAL person that he is today, so I guess it wasn't all bad. It makes his current success all that much sweeter!!! He's such a wonderful human being! Thanks for posting!!

Gary defines himself by his music so when things were going well in the 90's he felt good about himself... wouldn't anybody? It's only human that.
When things went wrong he was crushed. His discomfort here is hard to watch, especially when he cracks a joke to lighten the mood. I just wanna hug him :(
But into every life a little rain must fall... helps us appreciate the good times! I'm so happy for him that it's all turned around again!

Total respect for Ian Wright - I remember this interview from many years back and I was so sad for Gary Barlow but Wrighty really tried to big him up - how it`s changed for Gary now - a great sonwriter, part of a hugely successful group but most importantly a decent human being...back for good.

Good on that interviewer, think Gary needed to hear a lot of that. Pity this interview is so rare, Gary's probably forgotten about by now. I too wish it was included in any documentary of Gary's just to show how emotionally low he really had gotten.

I almost cried watching this, but if you see the man he is now, all he's achieved... than we could say all the pain's been worth it. Such a lovely human being... not to mention his amazing talent as a singer and musician.

It was a tough time for Gary at this time. Ian helped to pick him up. Right now if Gary was watching this he'd think What the heck. ha ha. He's made it for good.

Well Mr Barlow, you're going good now for the last couple of years. I think you came out very strong... But don't forget...I was there supporting you in Brighton at The Brighton Centre, back in 1999. Love to see Take That though back as a five-piece.

robbie may of had the solo career that gary never had, its a shame really. but where would robbie be with out take that today and gary. right where gary was thats where. gary is a far better person than robbie is and always will be,, in my eyes robbie made gary into the superstar he is today. gary you have the respect of the british public. you are a true role model for any child who wants to acheive there goal in life. your on the road to super stardom well done

Wonder why this wasn't used for the James Cordern documentary. Maybe his lowest televised point...

he should have let Wrighty become his manager or at lest part of his team, he would never dropped from sight all those wasted years when we missed him

Ian Wright was a former Pro soccer Player in England.(He is Arsenal's 2nd all time Record leading Goal scorer and he played for England a few times as well)He came into the game later than is the norm, which probably added to his Hunger&drive..So when his Football career had finished he managed to get this Gig..And he surprised people because his straightforward honest down to earthness was refreshing..And I always thought he showed tremendous Empathy&respect to Garry Barlow(who I must admit until then i hadn't paid much attention to)And it was a really nice moment, which was capped by Garry displaying all his Talent for everyone(critics included)to see..

Ian: "Do your things, my friend...." Gary: "want to get quietly on what I m doing and don't feel I ve been allowed to ...." Gary showed such a forlorn look on his face that every one can see.
Later revealed in Corden's documentary that it is the music scene at that period that blocked all possible doors for Gary.

What year is this? He still looks fit yet its very obvious he's unhappy already. I think he took Ian's advice in making music but he didn't take care of himself.

Around 1999 when his second solo album came out but didn't sell well. It was the height of Robbie and Gary's lowest point commercially.
I remember watching this at the time and being glad that Wrighty voiced what a lot of fans thought. Heartbreaking to see how broken Gary was at that time - especially knowing how low he went personally in the 5 years after.
I feel he had the last laugh over Robbie (who is an embarrassment now) and Gary's career is rock solid.
Loved the piano medley at the end.
