  • Tired of running back and forth, switching out the dust collection hose as you move from the table saw, to the band saw, to the miter saw and so on? So was I. So I decided to do something about it and I designed this simple to build dust collection manifold to make a permanent centralized dust collection system for all my tools. This system is very effective and efficient and it is built on a budget. Added bonus! It is designed to be easily expandable for future tool additions to your shop and it can be adapted to fit just about any size dust collection hoses and ports. This dust collection manifold is built out of 2 inch schedule 40 PVC pipe available at any hardware store and the rest of the items needed are listed below to be easily ordered online. Great Video. Why not just install the blast gates directly under the pvc so they are all in the same location? Wouldn’t that be much more efficient and cleaner?

      Because I had my table saw right in front of the manifold, so that wasn’t an option for how I had my table and tools configured

    Thanks for the video. As someone else said, it seems like a huge waste of suction having the blast gates all the way at the tools. All that extra distance added to the system that is never utilized.

    I need to make something similar to this for my shop, but I am hesitating as I tend to move my tools around. I think I might just pull the trigger and do it and deal with whatever happens!

    • @JFKreations
      @JFKreations  Před 5 lety

      I have the same problem. Good thing about this setup though is you can add a longer hose since that hose I found is pretty inexpensive, or you can splice in a hose extension with a short section of the PVC pipe if you move a tool or your shop vac. Do it and make a video!

    • @TheGrantAlexander
      @TheGrantAlexander Před 5 lety

      @@JFKreations ya, that hose does look pretty good, but my dust collector takes 4 inch and that increases the cost quite a bit. Plus I have a bunch of steel ducting that came with the dust collector. These are all excuses I am telling myself so I won't have to do it! Lol

    • @JFKreations
      @JFKreations  Před 5 lety +1

      Ah, well to quote you, just pull the trigger anyway. Tell you what, I think this is one of the best returns on investments I’ve made so far when it comes to “shop projects”. Do it!

  • @scottbennett6981
    @scottbennett6981 Před 3 lety +1

    Nice work.. Very instructional. Question: Would putting the blast gates next to each manifold connection make the system more effective? What provides your vacuum? Thanks.

    • @JFKreations
      @JFKreations  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for checking out the video. You are definitely right, putting the blast gates further back in the system closer to the vacuum source would be better and minimize suction loss. For this set up though my table saw lives right in front of that pvc manifold so I wouldn’t have been able to reach the blast gates very easily, so I put them at the tool instead. But if you can route yours differently, go for it, you’ll get even better results than mine. I used a Ridgid 12 gallon shop vac with a dust stopper bucket mounted separator. I am in the process of upgrading my whole dust collection system, and might make a video sharing these improvements and some of what I’ve learned about dust collection so be on the look out for that!

    • @JFKreations
      @JFKreations  Před 5 lety

      Funny you should mention, I had the idea of servos triggered off relays to automatically open the blast gates. Maybe someday but for now this works. It works fine, fine and dandy like lemon candy.

    • @JFKreations
      @JFKreations  Před 10 měsíci

      I’ve since learned that grounding it may not actually do anything to dissipate any built up charge. But for peace of mind you can still do that, just find any good earth ground

    Is there one shop vac for all of these runs? If so, can it have 2 hoses open (table saw over and under?)

    • @JFKreations
      @JFKreations  Před rokem

      Sure can. Might run into lack of power issues there though. Just have to try it and see how it goes. Could always later upgrade the shop vac to a smaller dust collector

  • @larsonbennett5903
    @larsonbennett5903 Před 2 lety

    Nice work. I plan on making a similar dust collection manifold. From what I gathered from your video, the inner diameter of the flex hose is 2 1/2-inch and the PVC is 2-inches. Is that correct? With that difference, does the flex hose seal okay round the PVC on your manifold. Thanks so much.

    • @JFKreations
      @JFKreations  Před 2 lety +1

      The 2 inch PVC is nominal for the inner diameter of the pipe. The exterior diameter is more than 2 inch from wall thickness of the pipe. The exterior diameter of Sch 40 PVC fits that hose almost perfectly.

It’s not the most heavy duty hose, but it comes in a lot of different lengths so you can cut to whatever length you need and the price is right www.ptreeusa.com/dust_hose.html The blast gates are WoodRiver made by WoodCraft, good price too www.woodcraft.com/products/2-1-2-abs-blast-gate
