- "Heil dir im Siegerkranz" (German for "Hail to Thee in the Victor's Crown") was the unofficial national anthem of the German Empire from 1871 to 1918.
Before the foundation of the Empire, it had been the royal anthem of Prussia since 1795 and remained it after 1871. The melody of the hymn derived from the British anthem "God Save the King". After the proclamation of the German Empire, the word König was replaced by Kaiser (emperor)

Sie erklang bei patriotischen Gelegenheiten mit Bezug zum Kaiser, wie Thronjubiläen und Geburts- und Todestagen, gewöhnlich aber auch zu Anlässen wie dem Sedantag und zu den Reichsgründungsfeiern. Eine Nationalhymne im heutigen Sinne war es nicht, was insbesondere auf den bundesstaatlichen Aufbau des Deutschen Reichs zurückzuführen war. Vielmehr war es eines unter mehreren inoffiziellen oder halboffiziellen, zu derartigen Anlässen angestimmten Liedern wie beispielsweise auch der Wacht am Rhein. Insbesondere die süddeutschen Staaten standen dem Lied skeptisch gegenüber.

CONTEXT: On this day, 100 years ago, Kaiser Wilhelm II abdicated the German throne and the Weimar Republic was declared. The abdication meant the end of the 400 year old Hohenzollern rule over the Kingdom of Prussia, and the end of the German Empire (1871-1918). Wilhelm II went to live in exile and died in 1941 in the Netherlands. Gott mitt uns!

The Hohenzollerns should regain power and become the ruling house of Germany again as I’m an American Constitutional monarchist with German ancestors along with British, Irish and French, but Germany is my favorite country on continental Europe and should have won WWI and America should have joined the central powers instead of the entente.

Even during the American Revolution, Britain's only allies were from the German states. A Central Powers victory would also have ensured the events of the second world war never came to pass, Germany today would still control all of its historical territory, and still retain its monarchy. Britain's standing in the world would also be vastly superior to what it is today. It was a catastrophic blunder for the British Empire to side with France.

No they shouldnt. Germany was a direct enemy of the British as they were in a naval race, and they were direct military competitors. They also were in conflict over African colonies. The Germans were disrupting the balance of power in Europe. I’m glad the British Empire and France rightfully defeated them.

Heinrich Harries wrote the lyrics in 1790 in honour of King Christian VII of Denmark, and the line "Heil, Kaiser, dir" originally read "Heil, Christian, dir". In 1793, Harries' text was adapted by Balthasar Gerhard Schumacher for use in Prussia. Schumacher shortened Harries' text and replaced the word Christian with the word König (king). After the proclamation of the German Empire, the word König was replaced by Kaiser (emperor). From Wikipedia.

Well, technically, he wasn't against it, he simply saw the danger it put his Empire in, later on in the war though as it was obvious a German Victory was likely to emerge, he got cocky and really wanted the war, he wanted back at his relatives for his bullying in his early age(due to his mangled arm) and wanted to show that Russia, and England, led by said relatives, Empires were less powerful than his, after all Germany had far less colonial grounds, which he was quite jealous of, and in the end when the US joined the war ultimately dooming the Germans to their defeat i dont believe he realized yet how bad the war had been.
