    You we're the reason I bought the zve10 3 years ago now I'm happy shooting with it for these years. It was my first camera being a paid photographer/videographer. Now I had saved enough from my shoots and had my new A6700 making my zve10 as a 2nd cam. Thank you for your valuable review Mrak I became a professional because of you. It was a battle between canon M50 and zve10 back then. Glad I listened to you. Now I'm saving for this tamron glass. Again, thank YOU!

    I'm using the 17-70 on my a6400, and it does the job quite well, while the quality of low-light performance on APSCs are wanting, it cannot be blamed on the lens. I will strive, if God wills it so, for a better full frame option in the coming year hopefully.
    The only thing I don't like about the Tamron is that it is a little chunky during my travels, but it more than makes up for what it lacks in size/mass for that little extra reach. I'm still a novice, so I get nervous easily when going outdoors, so that extra zoom helps a lot. I enjoy it a lot, and I think you're good with either one, because they're just one of the best all-rounder lens out there for the APSC world. Goodluck y'all! Happy shootin and another great video by the creator! ♥️

    I've had a Sony mirrorless APS-C body since the NEX-6, the entire time I've stuck with primes because all of the Kit Zoom replacement lenses are giant schnozes compared the size of the camera... IMHO no one's gotten the balance right of a good APS-C f2.8 standard zoom until Sigma knocked their 18-50/2.8 out of the park - not only is it small, light and perfectly balanced - it is sharp as a tack and fast, finally a properly sized lens for an A6x00 without compromising image quality. VC and extra reach of the Tamron is nice but its still a bit too big. Sigma's my choice here.

    Hey there Mark! Looking to get into Photography and this video has helped me a load! Really want to get the Tamron lens as it seems like an amazing all-rounder, however I already have the Sony 50mm f1.8 so the Sigma wouldn't really replace it at the outer zooms. However, I literally just saw the Sigma going for £200 (or $250) cheaper than the Tamron and it seems like an awesome deal! However, I have been considering the Tamron 28-200mm lens for photography of any kind and want to take photography and providing social media services for business very seriously with I'll the time I've got with school this summer. I also saw the Sony G 18-105mm f4 which seems like just an amazing lens and I found one at the same price as the Sigma almost, so think it's worth it due to the Optical Image Stabilisation, since I'm using a ZV-E10 so not sure the Sigma would be great due to that. Let me know what you think cause I'm not sure myself on what to do and would be awesome to have your help in this, thank you!

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis The A74 is a great camera. But, the a6700 I have and the A74 I proved one thing.... The a6700's new technology, excellent still image performance, ease of use, lighter and smaller, made it the better camera. Sad, but I like to shoot small things like insects and birds, and the A74 was bettered by the a6700 by a long shot. I also figured out how to get equal image quality by using the crop factor inherent in the crop sensor body. My trick I use all the time. I can't justify buying the A74 until it gets the AI chip. Focusing with either my A7CR or a6700 just blow the older models away. I hope Sony puts that AI chip in the ZV-E10 mk. 2 if such a thing is made. I also hope there is something like the A74, maybe called the A75, with the AI chip. It will then be the best camera in the world.

    Thank you Mark, very informative! I'll go for the Sigma due to its tiny size, I value portability highly, at similar optical quality. Actually, on my two last trips to Japan I have been chasing it - sold out at Yodobashi in Osaka and Tokyo, and at BIC Camera as well. This lens seems to be selling faster than they can manufacture it...

    Not sure if the Tamron was around when I bought the Sigma 18-50, at least I didn't know about it at the time. That made the choice easy. I would be torn between the extra focal length, but loosing some sharpness or having that closer minimum focus, but less focal length. Since I love to hunt and shoot mushrooms, the 12cm minimum is just awesome to have. Thanks for the comparison.

    Thank you for the video. I ended up with Sigma because of size when I added my A6700 last fall. One reason I chose it is a reason I recommend to everyone is to look at the midrange and wide angle zooms as a pair and choose the pair you like best. The Sigma 10-18/2.8 is my preference at the wide end as well so I went Sigma. Since I also shoot full frame the A6700 is a backup and travel body so lower price and smaller size were key so I ruled out the Sony 16-55/2.8 G. Either way the Sigma, Sony, and Tamron are hard to beat. Also the A6700 has IBIS so that included with the Tamron was not key to me. Take care.

    I bought the Tamron because of the image stabilization and sold the Sony 16-55 f2.8. But last year I added the Sigma, because of its size. I use the Tamron on jobs, and the Sigma with the A6600 to carry with me in a small pouch for personal photos. The VC/IS of the Tamron is really good also for handheld videos. Some noticed that the VC and IBIS interfere. Anyway I use the Tamron on a Sony without IBIS. Great review.
    One thing that annoys me about the Sigma is that the zoom ting rotates in the opposite direction than the Sony and Tamron lenses. Sigma should have adopted the regular zoom ring direction for the camera mount it is for.

    When getting my zve10, i ended up choosing 11mm sony, 30mm sigma and 56mm sigma. Gave a wide variety of focal lengths while i could crop in (which i inevitably do with stabilization) and get the sweet f/1.4-1.8. Non photography clients are almost always sold quickly by the clean bokeh instead of the other skills unfortunately

Plus I have right on the rear wheel bound to clear image zoom, that way I can get nearly a 160mm field of view up 60p from a tiny package! (oi oi lads). Weather sealing is useful too, with an A6700 your whole package is waterproof. ahem.

    I use the Tamron on my FS7 65% of the time. It was an immediate purchase with the extra 20mm and VC when announced. Also at the time it was the only lens besides the Sony. The only issue I have with it which I didn't see you mention Mark is the manual focus. It's not as smooth as I would like. For me the Sigma 10-18mm f2.8 and 18-50mm f2.8 pairs nicely with my A6700 to make a nice and compact travel kit. For some city photo walks, I’ve even used two bodies, A6100 with the 10-18mm and A6700 with 18-50mm which saves switching lenses and still have a compact kit. If I need a telephoto, I add my FF Tamron 28-200mm f2.8-f5.6 and cover a good range from 15mm to 300mm equivalent. I wish there was an APSC equivalent to the Tamron 28-200mm f2.8-5.6 zoom that is both sharp and relatively fast to pair with the Sigma 10-18mm f2.8 for a two lens travel kit that covers wide to telephoto. I think right now the best option is the Sony 18-135mm kit lens…wished they made something faster with a constant f4 in that range while keeping it compact. For now, I’m happy with my 3 lens compact APSC travel kit.

  • @NickErickson
    @NickErickson Před měsícem

    I bought the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 for my Fuji X-S10, but ended up not using it all that much because I am more of a telephoto lens user. I sold it along with a few other cheaper lenses that I had to get the Viltrox 27mm f/1.2 Pro. That being said, the Sigma is EXCELLENT, but I found that 50mm just isn’t enough reach for me. My most used focal length on the Sigma (other than 50mm) was 24mm-28mm, hence the Viltrox 27mm. I’ve got the also excellent Sigma 10-18mm, Viltrox Pro duo of 27mm and 75mm f/1.2, and an excellent copy of the Tamron 18-300mm.

      Great comparison Mark. Whilst both the Sigma 18-50 and Tamron 17-70 are great options, I currently use the Sony 18-135 which serves me well for everyday, travel and landscapes. I complement it with the Sony FE 35 f1.8 for low light street or for portraits, and also have the Sony 70-350G for landscapes and sports. The Sony 16-55 f2.8 would be great but I don’t feel like paying the Sony tax. I don’t think I’d really benefit from the extra 2-3 stops from the Sigma and Tamron f2.8 zooms, but they definitely should be considered by others as you have suggested. I've had the Sigma 18-50 for months. I love it as my default walking-around everyday lens on the a6600. Have never been disappointed with it for any reason. I love how small and light it is! I'm sure I'd like that Tamron 17-70, but really have no reason to try it. Thanks for this review. BTW I also have the Tamron 18-300mm for situations when I want a longer reach than 50mm. The a6600's sensor and IBIS is good enough that those two lenses can handle almost all shooting situations for me. Although I own several other APS-C lenses. Acquiring lenses for me is like eating potato chips (crisps): it's hard to stop with just one. Or two . . . 🤣

    Another nice review Mark! I would just like to ask if you can test the Tamron lens with the A6700? A couple of reviewers a few months said that the vibration control of the Tamron doesn't work well with the A6700's IBIS. You have to either deal with the issue or only turn both off

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  Před měsícem +2

      It does appear to fight the ibis a bit in video from what everyone is saying. I had to send my lens back so I can’t test it further, but it does make the idea of handheld video less attractive with the Tamron. So if you plan to use a lot of handheld video, I would look to get the Sigma

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for the reply. I currently have a ZV-E10 and your videos were a tremendous help.

  • @BK-rh1lj

    Personally, i prefer sigma due to its compactness,since i mainly travel. But then again, my workflow,sometimes i wish for that tamron extra 20 mm range.
    Also,.there's a secondhand sony 16-55 in my region which price on par with tamron, but there's a tiny point scracth on the lens, the seller said it's doesn't affect the outcome, but i can't afford to gamble on those. So, yeah, now im still in dillema💀.
    Anyway, great video as always, Mark!
    Perhaps, make video on guides buying secondhand/refurbished lens/ or should it be an option.

    I have an A6700 and had both these lenses but sold them for the Sony 16-55 f2.8. It was expensive but worth it.
    Also have a Sony 20mm f1.8 Fe and Sigma 56mm f1.4. (love both)
    Recently added the TT Artisan 27mm f2.8 AF (£130) to see what the image quality was like, have to say it's pretty decent and makes a great street setup on the A6700.
    Long live APS-C!!

      @@luisandradevideo I think all three lenses have similar image quality. I just wanted to try all three in person and ended up with the Sony 16-55 which I'm very happy with. The Tamron is a big beast which sort of defeats the whole APS-C compact ideal.

    i have both, and here's how I sum it up.When I want a standard zoom, I use the Tamron for indoor and nighttime situations, and the Sigma for everything else. If my aps-c camera (a6000) had image stabilization, I would sale the Tamron and keep the Sigma. The Tamron's size is on the verge of being to big for a daily walk around lens. The Sigma's size if perfect on a 6000 series camera.

      you should go with the lens you like, you can always use the active stabilization in video with the ZV-E1. For photos, it won't make too much of a difference. The extra 20mm on the only end is nice, but the lens is much bigger

    I bought for a smaller setup against my Canon R6MK2 the Sony ZV-E10 + Sigma 18-50 (Sony 11 and Samyang 75). I'm really surprised about the little Sony. She is a really good camera for the Money. But I didn't find a small good Tele. My next bigger Trip with Motorcycle goes to Scotland and therefore I'm thinking about the Tamron 18-300. For more light maybe the Sigma 23 1.4 in combination. The Tamron 17-70 makes not really sense for my situation,...
    Mark, what would you take for a two Week tour? The Canon combination (canon 16 STM + Sigma 24-105 EF Version + canon 70-300 EF) or the lenses I already have for Sony or would you buy the Tamron 18-300 for max flexibility?
    One weakness of the Sigma 18-50 is it change the focus while zooming-> a dolly-zoom effect is not really possible,...

    Hey Mark, would you happen to know if the Tamron's VC fight against the IBIS inside the FX30 (or any camera with IBIS). A lot of people said it does and will produce micro jumps during handheld shots at the telephoto end, but another reviewer said to turn the steadyshot normal to AUTO (instead of MANUAL) and it'll work fine. Any truth to that? Getting a fx30 soon and the Tamron's VC and extra focal length is more enticing to me, but if the footage jumps during handheld...I might just go for the Sigma. Thanks.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  Před 16 dny

      I have sent it back, so I can’t check, but the active steady shot works well in the fx30 so I would probably just use the sigma to avoid the jumps to do seem to happen with the tamron at least in some modes.
