Even tho I love "the world was wide enough". It's really cool to hear the parallel from hamilton side.
I'd like to see scenes that play out at the same moment but from different perspectives, like what they did with helpless and satisfied.

Well to be honest, the people who sent Hamilton to New York, some of them didn't live past twenty, and he was surprised to have made it this far, like in the Battle of Yorktown, Hamilton was okay to die there before he remembered Eliza was expecting him, in My shot, Hamilton tells us that he is surprised because most people he knew didn't live past twenty.

    • @thedarkleopard7507
      @thedarkleopard7507 Před rokem +13

Personally think this version is like looking at Hamilton on the inside what he’s truly like, where his heart is hence sounding like a good father and husband; where as world was wide enough is looking at him on the outside how he wants to be perceived and remembered by others hence the emphasis on a legacy and death

He couldnt, because if they did, the song "who lives, who dies, who tells your story" wouldnt make sense. Hamilton died and told his story.

I think it's not that necessary,
Because we know enough about them already,
and this is like a long recap of what we already understand.
And could kill the pacing and the rithem of it.
I mean the song isn't bad.
But i kinda understand why they cut it out.

    • @arcanam9327
      @arcanam9327 Před rokem +75

They cut it out because hamilton never lived to tell his side. A huge central theme is "who lives who dies who tells your story?" and Hamilton certainly didn't tell his. We only hear Burr's side because Burr lives on after, and Eliza, who lived the longest to tell the ENTIRE story wasn't at the duel to tell Hamilton's side either. Again and again and again we see this - in The Room Where it Happens, Burr only quotes jefferson: "Thomas claims/Alex was on Washington's doorstep one day in distress and disarray" because no one else was in the room where it happened, so we dont KNOW what exactly happened, we can only put together pieces from Jefferson's written account of it.

Before we got in the boat to cross the Hudson
I stopped to write a note
    Actually I wrote-

    Two!
    [HAMILTON]
Just in case I didn't make it through
I want the world to know what I intended to do
    [COMPANY]
    Number three!
    [HAMILTON]
If I shoot first, and throw it away
He has to yield, we both get to live another day

But I've got to throw away my shot
    [COMPANY]
    Number four!
    [HAMILTON]
I get lucky, I draw first position

    [COMPANY]
    Five!

I start to shake when I realize

    In the same spot

    [BURR/HAMILTON/ENSEMBLE MEN]
    Your last chance to negotiate

I put on my glasses, so I can see if Burr is softening
I see him glaring back at me
He's always hated dueling, hated confrontation
I never had his instinct for self-preservation
I feel a sense of calm fill me
It's not in his political interest to kill me

My last thought is of Eliza
Maybe I can get back home before she opens her eyes
They put us through our paces, we count to ten

Here’s a concept that I think would go better then “Best Of Wives, Best Of Women” Would be a song called “Convinced” That I wrote. I won’t include the Lyrics but here is the concept.
It’s like “Ten Duel Commandments” but each time it says a number it’s a different member from Hamilton’s Life.
    Number 1: George Washington
    Number 2: Phillip
    Number 3: John Laurens
    Number 4: Lafayette
    Number 5: Hercules Mulligan
    Number 6: Thomas Jefferson
    Number 7: James Madison
    Number 8: Angelica Schuyler
    Number 9: Peggy Schuyler
    Number 10: Elizabeth Schuyler
Each character would be trying to convince Hamilton to do what they think is right for him. This wouldn’t be historically accurate. But whatever, Hamilton isn’t either. Hamilton would end up taking Phillips advice, with him saying “ When the time comes aim your gun towards the sky.”
I could’ve added the Reynolds’s but I didn’t like that plot line so I decided against it. So, would you like this version of “Best of Wives, Best Of Women”?
This would never be possible because the actors would have to keep changing their appearance during the song. But it’s nice to dream.
i will never be as good as songwriter as lin manuel miranda, and im not a good song writer overall, this just sounded like a fun lil concept i thought of but here are the lyrics:

Ensemble: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, there are ten opinions upon you
    ENSEMBLE: NUMBER 1!
GW: Alright son, you don't want to have his blood on your gun, but I do not approve of what he has done. Be smart, make me proud son.
    ENSEMBLE: NUMBER 2
Phillip: Hey Pops, looks like you’re finna fight, not to fret you’re a pro, though, lemme add some sugar and spice. But from what I can show, the way I would go is the way you taught me, aim for the sky, if not you may wanna grab some coffee.
    ENSEMBLE: 3
Lafayette: Monsieur, Hamilton! I see you’re in a bit of a pickle. But when it comes to politics they are easily brickled. But here’s some advice I give you from France, shoot him in the legs, so he can’t duel or dance. AH
    ENSEMBLE: NUMBER 4
Hercules Mulligan: BLRAH BLRAH, It’s your what,11th duel? Trust me, this guy is full of rage fuel. Man, tear this wimp to shreds, no matter what he says.
    ENSEMBLE: 5
John Laurens: Raise a glass to freedom, something he can never take from you, if you really want a clean America.
Hamilton: John, this can’t be. Do I do it like you did Lee?
JL: If that’s how you want to interpret it, sure? Ham, just shoot Burr.
    ENSEMBLE: NUMBER 6
Peggy Schyuler: Alexander, you can’t not be tough enough for this fool, I would take em down easily if I had the fuel, he’s not cool! Inside and outside! Take from me, he’s left in the shadows, off to be carried by the tide.
    ENSEMBLE: 7
Angelica: ALEXANDERRRRR………. You’re out of luck, burr is a new type of crazy, a crazy YOU can’t undo type of crazy, acting like a maniac in the zoo, type of crazy. I tell you, he didn’t think this through, kind of crazy. I have one thought left for you, truely, you can stop his mood, kind of crazy.
    ENSEMBLE: 8…….
Eliza: I’ve seen what you wrote, and I see what you’re doing, I know I can't stop your mindset, because I know who I married, the fact that you might die is hysterical, so stay alive, would that be enough?
    ENSEMBLE: NUMBER 9
James madison: i wish you the best of luck ham, i recently heard about the duel, and its not what i expected from a man like burr, but if something bad occurs, we will spout the confer.
    ENSEMBLE: NUMBER 10
Thomas Jefferson: HEEeeeeYY, so I heard about the battle, and it rattles me to think that burr would shoot you without a second blink. BUt heeeY good luck my man, your legacy will continue as my biggest fan!
Hamilton: I start pacing and I know that tomorrow we’ll be pacing to- continues to world was wide enough

I might try to write something like this... there's no way it'll come anywhere near close to Lin's songs, but I might as well try lol

This is a good song, but it's not as powerful as The World Was Wide Enough, in my opinion.

this is basically an earlier version of ‘the world was wide enough’. some words are changed and in this version hamilton’s verse mirrors burr’s instead of the soliloquy he has in the official version

Like what the dude above me said, a majority of this song is just the world was wide enough, this is significantly less emotional though.

    MALE COMPANY]
    One two three four
[FULL COMPANY (EXCEPT HAMILTON AND BURR)]
    Five six seven eight nine-
    [BURR]
There are ten things you need to know
    [COMPANY]
    Number one!
    [BURR]
We rode across the Hudson at dawn
My friend, William P. Van Ness signed on as my-
    [COMPANY]
    Number two!
    [BURR]
    Hamilton arrived with his crew
Nathaniel Pendleton and a doctor that he knew
    [COMPANY]
    Number three!
    [BURR]
I watched Hamilton examine the terrain
I wish I could tell you what was happ'ning in his brain
Just apologize, we have worthier pursuits!
    [COMPANY]
Most disputes die and no one shoots!
    Number four!
    [BURR]
    Hamilton drew first position
Looking, to the world, like a man on a mission
This is a soldier with a marksman's ability
The doctor turned around so he could have deniability
    [COMPANY]
    Five!
    [BURR]
Now, I didn't know this at the time
    But we were-
    [BURR]
    In the same spot
Your son died, is that why [HAMILTON]
    In the same spot
My son died, is that why
    [COMPANY]
    Six!
    [BURR]
He examined his gun with such rigor?
I watched as he methodically fiddled with the trigger
    [COMPANY]
    Seven!
    [BURR]
Confession time? Here's what I got:
My fellow soldiers'll tell you I'm a terrible shot
    [COMPANY]
    Number eight!
    [BURR/HAMILTON/ENSEMBLE MEN]
    Your last chance to negotiate
Send in your seconds, see if they can set the record straight
    [BURR]
They won't teach you this in your classes
But look it up, Hamilton was wearing his glasses
Why? If not to take deadly aim?
That's when I realized this was not a game
I had only one thought before the slaughter:
This man will not make an orphan of my daughter
    [COMPANY]
    Number nine!
    [BURR]
Look him in the eyes, aim no higher
Summon all the courage you require
    Then count:
    [COMPANY]
One two three four five six seven eight nine
    [BURR AND COMPANY]
He aims his pistol at the sky-
    [BURR]
    Wait!

    Nine eight seven six five
    [MALE COMPANY]
    Four three two-
    [HAMILTON]
    One last thought
    [COMPANY]
    Number one!
    [HAMILTON]
Before we got in the boat to cross the Hudson
I stopped to write a note
    Actually I wrote-
    [HAMILTON AND COMPANY]
    Two!
    [HAMILTON]
Just in case I didn't make it through
I want the world to know what I intended to do
    [COMPANY]
    Number three!
    [HAMILTON]
If I shoot first, and throw it away
He has to yield, we both get to live another day
I know this puts me in a difficult spot
But I've got to throw away my shot
    [COMPANY]
    Number four!
    [HAMILTON]
I get lucky, I draw first position
I stand facing east as I load my ammunition
The sun is in my eyes, I am almost giddy
As I watch it slowly rise over my New York City
    [COMPANY]
    Five!
    [HAMILTON]
I start to shake when I realize
    That we are-
    [HAMILTON]
    In the same spot
My son died, is that why [BURR]
    In the same spot
Your son died, is that why
    [COMPANY]
    Six!
    [HAMILTON]
I examine the gun that we shared?
Philip never hurt a soul, he must've been so scared
    [COMPANY]
    Seven!
    [HAMILTON]
    My Eliza is still asleep
I left her a letter, I could've written it better
    [COMPANY]
    Number eight!
    [BURR/HAMILTON/ENSEMBLE MEN]
    Your last chance to negotiate
Send in your seconds, see if they can set the record straight
    [HAMILTON]
I put on my glasses, so I can see if Burr is softening
I see him glaring back at me
He's always hated dueling, hated confrontation
I never had his instinct for self-preservation
I feel a sense of calm fill me
It's not in his political interest to kill me
    [COMPANY]
    Nine!
    [HAMILTON]
My last thought is of Eliza
Maybe I can get back home before she opens her eyes
They put us through our paces, we count to ten
God, I can't wait to see her again
    [COMPANY]
One two three four five six seven eight nine
    [BURR AND COMPANY]
He aims his pistol at the sky-
    [BURR]
    Wait!
