So, this song didn't make it on a full studio album, it was played live once and barely rehearsed. And the sad part is: Kirk put way more effort into his solo here than on any song on HTSD.

Rob Roy it was most likely left off do to time. The album was pushing 76 minutes and this song is 8 minutes. So it just wouldn't fit unless it was made into a double album like Hardwired.

They left it off because it didn't sufficiently fit the lyrical concept for the record. Same for the other three on the EP.

No. You may feel that way, but I don't. Keep thinking that because they don't make the same music they made in 80's that they suck, but its not true. Guess what, some of us love Load, Reload, St. Anger and Death Magnetic, and its not just because its Metallica. Its because those albums kick fucking ass.

ElaborateTiger the sound represent the snare with floor tom ... you can even spot the sound volume of the kit, when the snare and floor tom kicks in, you can hear a low sound of a crash ( which lars is hitting ) so its play back definetly

Black Spark Let me explain it for you. First, the audio is probably taken from "livemetallica.com". After each show, edited versions of the songs is put on the website. So, what you hear is not the audio taken with the camera. It is the edited version. And yes, Lars fails to play the fill at first. However, even though it cannot be seen in the video, he plays it correctly at around 6:33. Thus, while editing, they probably put the fill at 6:33 to 6:22.

No jab intended, I really envy you, I work alone and listen music 9 hours a day no stop and I really don't get a feeling from many new albums or I get bored by listening too much of the remaining good ones.
That's how I judge music, if I start pressing skip on a song after a few days is not good enough.

The riffs are cool, the solo is good, the drum and bass section is great, however... the transitions are very abrupt and the song seems to jump from idea to idea, instead of following a coherent progression. I get why it was left out.

Yes, yes, the song is nice but 50% of what makes this song great is that you see them playing it. If someone else had make the exact same song you'd not be writing what a great song it is.
They are still capable of playing but don't have that edge over the other bands anymore, they are together with the rest now.

I don't argue personal taste, but you stated that people who don't like their later albums should "go take a shit in a fucking hat".
I gave my own impression and tried to explain why from my point of view, someone who's not a fan, I don't like their music anymore or at least they don't excel compared to other bands like they used to do.
If for you Master of Puppets has the same quality as St.Anger good for you, it means that you have millions of album to enjoy.
My taste is, sadly, more picky.
Great song and let's be honest, this is just some crap metallica threw together as the 14th best song on an album the didn't make the cut. Where as if any other rock band wrote it ,it would be one of the best songs they've ever made
