- The Russian defence ministry has released a video showing the removal of its first captured Marder infantry fighting vehicle from the battlefield. The ministry said that the German-made vehicle was captured when Russia was 'liberating' villages after the fall of Avdiivka. Ukrainian forces had abandoned the vehicle after it got stuck in the soil near the frontline due to its weight. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian foreign minister has said that he gets an 'irritated feedback' from the NATO Natio every time he comments over the supply of Germany's long-range Taurus missiles. Germany's actual issues were not with their most numerous tank, the Panzer IV ... But with the Tiger I and Tiger B ... Both of the Tiger models were hugely over engineered, incredibly difficult to repair especially in the field and were absolutely not suitable for Russia. Why?
Because the Tiger Engine, a petrol V-12 Maybach HL was horrendously underpowered and completely worn out by 1000-1200 KM. The transmission lucky to last 700 km.
So complex was the build it took a specialised team of mechanics three full days to change an engine and transmission. c.60% of all German Tiger I & B tanks broke down when moving from point A to point B. Plus of course in battle. A major part of WW2 tank warfare was the ability to recover the tanks that simply broke down and to strip the damaged tanks for parts.
What Russia had in the 1940's was their vast empty spaces and few railways or 'metal' roadways.
The transmission on the Tiger tanks were so fragile that the standing order was that no Tiger must ever tow another Tiger nor any other vehicle.
So whilst in the first winter the mud caused some general mayhem for the German military ... What the Germans failed to understand was 'Built in obsolescence' which Russia had down a fine art with it's rough and ready V2 diesel T34.
The over ludicrous complexity of German battle tanks, war planes and battleships ... along with them making way too many variations of small arms and other battle field ordnance … That was the major problem.
Along with fuel ... Why did Germany not have a diesel tank engine? Germany has no oil and indeed, it perfected in the 1930's creating petrol from coal of which it had/has vast reserves.
To keep a group of Tiger's going in the field was no small logistical task.

Its very old equipment Marder ended series production in 1975. Most of stock was put in storage in the early 1990s. It's the same case with the M2 Bradleys and M1 Abrams they received.

The other reason is the west doesn’t want to show their hand. So far western military equipment has failed to make any impact in the conflict so the west are hesitant about sending other weapons. So far NATO weapons has failed miserably..
