  • Helloooo guys
I'm busy today so I actually scheduled this on Dec 30 at 1:25AM. But by the time you see it it should be 11PM on December 31st, 2022. Last year I legit crammed my year-end piece (Speckle) in 24hrs and finished THREE SECONDS before the new year so I'm glad I didn't have another iteration of that :P

This is the second out of 3 piano pieces I'm writing as part of a trilogy that I hope to capture the emotions of everyday life (Imma explain more when I release the third and final piece). This piece aims to capture various feelings of joy, ranging from calm relaxation to 'acute' excitement.
Like Waves (the first piece in the trilogy), I attempted a (bordering) through-composed structure - and lemme just say this was 10x harder lmaooo. For Waves I was aiming for stark contrast and fluctuating moods throughout the piece, which was fairly easy to achieve. This piece, on the other hand, I wanted to have all 'happy' feelings, and halfway through I found myself struggling to come up with a) unique 'happy' feelings that didn't overlap with the others, and b) unique music to represent those happy feelings that didn't too-closely resemble the other themes AND were still similar enough to flow with the rest of the piece (without too much contrast).
I guess writing this set of pieces has also made me realize just HOW much I rely on copy/paste to add length or substance to my stuff (basically for each refrain, I'd just copy the whole section and sometimes make some quick changes so it didn't get too redundant). Not that I didn't copy/paste in this piece or Waves at ALL, but it was to a much lesser extent than usual.
    Soooooo ye :P
Hope you enjoy, and happy new year :D

Hey, I found you on Musescore a few years ago. I work for an orchestra and make music in my spare time, and I never reached out to say how much I love your pieces. I find your sense of melody inspiring, and your harmonic sense particularly fun.
It'd be reductive and easy to say "never stop," because I don't think anything could stop you. So I'll settle for "please keep going." It means a lot to plenty of us.
Good luck with the rest of school and such (?).
All the best. Thanks for the sick tunes, Rebecca.

Heyo, thank you so much; that means so much to me esp since I'm kinda struggling a bit with composing atm, so I'm so glad that you enjoy my stuff :>

You always manage to make such beautiful pieces. I liked the way it flows smoothly and melodically, but also the way it's broken up occasionally in the second half with those more rhythmic hits!

The sweetness of this piece made me smile. :)
On the copy-pasting (a lot) part, it's entirely normal especially for pieces using an arpeggio pattern and a cycling chord progression.

      Heya - thanks!
I know the copy/pasting of arpeggiated patterns *way* too well lmaooo it's like -
right hand: put a lot of thought into each note
      left hand: ctrl+c, ctrl+v, adjust accidentals. ctrl+c, ctrl+v, adjust accidentals. ctrl+c...etc.
I've started trying not to do that TOO much, but it's def hard not to do it at all lol :p
