"Love is all a matter of timing. It's no good meeting the right person too soon or too late. If I'd lived in another time or place... my story might have had a very different ending." -- Chow Mo Wan
Clip from Wong Kar-wai's movie "2046" (2004).
Actors: Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Faye Wong.
Music: Nat King Cole's "Christmas Song", Angela Gheorghiu's "Casta Diva".
I do not own the rights to this movie. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
At exactly 2:30, the refraction effect brings them close enough for a kiss.
The question "if you were him, what would you be doing right now?" is her at her most resigned and vulnerable and sounds like an opening that could give Chow a chance to cut her off emotionally from her far-away lover by giving a condemning or apathetic answer. He could then make his move and claim her like he did with the others.
Instead, he fades out of view almost instantly. Without hesitation he makes his decision to go the selfless route and help her reconnect with that long distance phone call.
Wang Jin-Wen was the closest he got to relive his happy days and recapture his feelings of pure love. Their relationship starts with them conspiring and helping one-another, then collaborating on the novels and, after a while, truly caring for eachother . Every other encounter with a woman felt extremely cold and callous but with her there was some real warmth. It was almost identical to "In the Mood" except here she loves somebody else. Inside the sci-fi train this is reflected when his alter ego feels some kind of warmth when he hugs the android, but fails to get any response out of her when he confesses his feelings and realises that it's no use. The Android loves someone else.
In the end he is rewarded by seeing, though a dusty window, the cute expressions of joy from a girl who is on the phone with the man she loves and misses and seeing her uplifted from resignation to hope. And some time later, he gets a message back from Japan: "I've read your story, try to make the ending happier". She cares for him in her own way, even outside of their "collaborative phase" where she no longer has to gain anything from him.
The cycle of "borrowing and being borrowed" breaks.
All this might not be a conventional happy end for him but perhaps it was a step forward from the limbo of the place called 2046.
"It's no good meeting the right person too soon or too late."
-Simple truths to break your heart.
The most beautiful, tender, poetic film I ever seen.
I love it too
no shit. this is genius
Did you watch his "In the mood for Love" though??
That was WKW's masterpiece.
Agreed
One is the continuation of the other.
I still think this is one of the best movies of all time
PhukIT1865 You're really a big fan of Faye Wong. Almost every Faye Wong video can see you below😃
I followed Faye here too. She has led me to so many beautiful things.
@@zengpeng2155 yea that's me. She was awesome in this movie. I do ♥ her a lot :-)
you're not wrong. it is.
after In the mood for love
I really felt so Sorry for the Chow Character. He is just so lost and broken because fate played a very cruel trick on him. He met the last woman he'd ever love, but would never even had a chance to love her, be with her, or even at least have the closure he needs to move on. So now, he cant make new relationships and has to wander life bearing all the "whatifs".
This movie is a masterpiece.
Faye is always stunning but there is something really special and unique about her character here that makes her even more stunning and beautiful.
It’s always iconic when it’s Kar wai x Faye Wong x Tony Leung
This is still my favorite movie of all time. Brilliant in so many ways. And Faye as an Android was the best acting I have ever seen. Amazing
♥² I agree haha if I am only agreeing with meself. I am rewatching this movie and Faye is ...well...Faye! brilliant..
15th December 2023. Still here.
The single most beautiful movie I have experienced. So poignant, incredible colour, enthralling music.
I’ve never seen this film, but I am literally being blown away by the tender beautiful warmth of this clip
Here it is Wong Kar-Wai's filmography:

I like that the women Chow dates in 2046 all remind him of certain aspects of Mrs Chan in ITMFL. He cant seem to give his heart to any other woman as he still longs for Mrs Chan. I wonder if Chow will return in Kar Wai’s next film
I so fucking want to see Maggie in any Kar Wai role. She is such a genius of an actor. Just a 6 min scene in the ENTIRE Ashes of Time, and she made it one of the best in the entire fucken movie.
I think this is the classical past, now, this film, I think that there can’t be a Chow return, or even a Kar Wai return, their Hong Kong doesn’t exist anymore. How warm though, that you could even believe such a thing - I hope that you live in a little paradise just for two. The present has never more felt the presence of the un-certain future looming - much like the pattern of the previous century, I think we are in for a rough ride now until at least the 2060s. Just my feeling, that we are moving away from the warmth and into the cold.
@@theoduval1408 You don’t think Wong Kar Wai will make another movie? I think he will.... maybe not with Mr Chow or Mrs Chan though.
I hope so too but I believe chow is suppose to be a tragic character, a man who longs for the past and hates the future can only live in the present now.

One of the most beautiful sequences in cinema.
A great movie. I like it a lot better than "In the Mood for Love".
What? Why? You're breaking my heart!
2046 contains a lot more. Great use of music and light, also many metaphor to the movies from Wang
:) Well, I hope you're joking, but I'll try explaining myself. I like 2046 better because it's more classical. In "In the Mood for Love" there is too much unsaid, too much slow motion, too much music, too much staring at each other etc. The funniest thing is that I usually like films that are more avant-garde, but in this case a more classical approach of 2046 works better for me. And I love Zhang Ziyi in 2046. She is fantastic!
i think too much unsaid and too much slow motion is basically the point for In The Mood for Love. If everything is too out there it loses the charm.
I love Zhang Ziyi too one of my favorite actresses, but Faye Wong is the heart and soul of this beautiful film.
My favorite Christmas movie!

Well this is the reality but how many of us can accept this or realize this when we fails?
I learned a lot from Wong Kar Wai! Thank you!
So true, what a great great movie !
Thanks, a lot, for sharing this video!!!
Love is a matter of timing is so true.
Wong kar wai's best film
I can't watch it now because it is too beautiful and too true
oh come on man, suck it up and watch it again. YOU MUST AND YOU HAVE TO!! YOU KNOW YOU WILL!!
This is the high point of this incredible film. Angela Gheorghiu's Casta Diva can be heard in earlier sections accompanying Faye Wong's character, but the aria never reaches crescendo until this scene. Masterful use of progression and music by Wong Kar Wai.
Best film ever
Beautiful
Sublime...quite sublime...
Mesmerizing
Beautiful ❤️
Adoro música romântica
Fooking best movie ever
yeah Love is a matter of timing no shite.
very very nice
Great movie
They really should have expanded on this part of the story-- this was by far the best part of the whole film.
Tze Goh, you were here just 17 hours ago
@@theoduval1408 No kidding
17 hours...that was almost a rendezvous...these lonely 2046 temples on CZcams are only ever occupied by one lost person at a time.
I watch this movie like every other day lmao they have it for free with ads on Pluto tv!
Love is NOT a matter of timing... There is never the wrong timing meeting your soulmate..." Love invincible in battles. Inescapable to both : Gods
and mortals, making them lose their mind. Even fair minds become unfair ones having been dragged by you." Antigone, Sophocles.
Greetings from Greece.
Beautifully accurate scene 🎬
so many times i have felt like Santa Claus by helping someone find love sacrificing my own feelings. Could have pressed but it would have been wrong. As he says, it was for the Best!

que filme bom!😦✨
Maravilhoso!

Does anyone know what the effect used in this scene was called? Where the camera kept panning left and right and was showing like a type of reflection of the other person? So far I’ve seen that you can use a diopter lens filter from prison fx. Is this what this effect is called? I’m talking about at parts like 2:26 would like to use this effect. They might have used some sort of glass filter that was put in front of the lens by hand instead of attaching it to a matte box or screwing it on.
What is this filming technique when the image are superimposed at the dinner scene?
I think it might just be a crystal/glass object moved in front of the camera, they don't really look like edits.
Lewis Lau, only an INTP could ask that question
❤❤💜💜
The most poignant line. Wkw sure worked with the best, and vice versa. Very sumptuous scene.
4:49的 I gave her a copy of my story 2047 ,導演是否對香港50年不變(1997+50=2047)意有所指??
ain't it the truth
Who sings the music ?
This is the aria "Casta Diva" from the opera Norma, by Bellini. Act 1 scene 4. You should be able to find with the name above though, it is very famous

This honestly reminds me of blade runner
As strange as that sounds, I get where you're coming from, in particular with the android.

While this movie is great, it suffers from the problems of Bladerunner when it was initially released. Much can be said without all the narration.
