I don't know how artist still wants to sign under YG, like haven't you seen their previous artist carrer deteriorate slowly?

YG is one of the worst companies when it comes to management. For some reason they can't manage to have more than one successful act at the same time. Other groups always have to take the back seat for just one group

Honestly, Katie wouldn't have fared well regardless of which agency she chose after winning. JYP and Antenna wouldn't have the faintest idea of what to do with her. Jamie and Yerin are great examples. On paper YG sounded the best, but it seems people forget they're in the idol business. Putting Katie in an idol group would've wasted her talents and it's obvious that's not the direction she wanted. YG could've debut her as a soloist and she 100% could've been super successful, but it still would've been idol music. Even Lee Hi had to do idol music for the first half of her career. YG sucks but I don't think it's fair to fully blame YG. I think a lot of it was Katie's own decisions. What did you expect would happen when you tell an idol company you don't want to be idol? I'm actually glad they didn't force her to being an idol. It seems YG did spend a lot of effort into building up her artistry. They sent her to writing camps and y'all may not realize it, but Katie has some pretty strong connections in the west, which is exactly what she wants.

I think I came across her on a “recommended for you” Spotify playlist years ago. I heard “Remember” and instantly fell in love. I honestly didn’t even associate her with K-Pop or YG. It makes sense now why I didn’t keep up with her. Now that I know she’s got more music, I’m definitely gonna check it out. Thanks for this video. Definitely learned a lot about her.

I remember obsessing over "Thinking Bout You" and "Remember" in 2020 and the I forgot she existed... Thank you for a reminder, now I'll go stream it again!

I’m a fan of KATIE’s music. Love her albums LOG, ECHO, Our Time is Blue. Any solo artist under YG or JYP is a struggle. Not many solo artist after like RAIN, WHEESUNG, SE7EN or BoA under SM made it (Ailee and just a few). Look at JAMIE Park under JYPE, similar story happened to her. Same goes for Somi going through several Agencies. The point is idol groups rule over the solo Artist in the K-Pop industry and it’s not a secret. Antenna is probably one of the agencies that supports the Artist and guide them in the direction that the artist wants and suits. Look at Sam, Kwon Jin Ah and CHAI/Lee Soo Jung. They got perhaps most of their Artist freedom. Idols (the ones that stand out) will have more solo success or freedom when they went through the idol group phase first, then do their solo projects.

There's 1 thing in this whole story I don't really understand: why would Katie join a show called "K-pop star" and then go on to sign with a K-pop agency if she didn't want to go down the K-pop road? YG is notorious for keeping its idols in its dungeon and I'm not defending the lack of promotion on their side. But Katie should have known what she was signing up for: an agency known to produce K-pop idols. It seems strange to me that she consciously chose to join YG and then got disappointed that she was set to debut as an idol. If she wanted to sing in English and NOT be an idol, why didn't she pursue a musical career in the States in the first place? This whole story sounds oddly weird to me.
