In the florida heat during the summer i couldn't imagine walking to everything lol! So being spread out doesn't seem that huge. I'm trying to move to Florida as my job allowed me to be remote. I'm wanting to rent as I have no desire to be a homeowner.
I've visited only in the winter to Tampa area, never had a mosquito problem. Are they more of a summer pest?

Car insurance is super high. I may change my mind on moving to Tampa now.
Auto insurance in Florida is above the national average. But like with any insurance, there are many variables that go into your individual pricing. My insurance is around $800/yr for full coverage. Uninsured motorist is an issue so be sure to have car insurance. It is too big a metro to not have a car. Public transportation will not get you where you need to go.
