Carretera Austral: Riding the South American icon

- The Carretera Austral is one of the world great adventure routes. Riding you motorcycle through the heart of Chilean Patagonia. This road runs for 1247km or 775mi from Puerto Montt to Villa O'Higgins, Chile. It is a world class motorcycle and adventure travel destination, that is worth its reputation.
Follow me, as I rode this epic route in Chile on my adventure motorcycle, and show you all there is to see, and what it is like to ride one of the world's best routes.
I'm riding my Honda CRF250L Rally on a tour of South America on my way south the ride to the end of the world.
About Me:
I am a motovlogger out of Portland, OR who does scenic rides and vlogs about the ride and the places I visit. I do motorcycle trips, adventure riding and moto camping along with day rides to scenic and memorable destinations on some of the best motorcycle roads in the country. I'm currently doing a multi-year long ride from the US to the southern tip of South America and beyond, on a Honda CRF250 Rally.

Thanks Glenn, when I have to footage to make a video like this, I will. Sometimes I just have the footage with me talking in the helmet, it will depend on where I am, and what I have to work with, on how the videos will be done.

Simply put, what an epic trip. I can only wish I was with you to experience it.
It was the kind of experience we all dream of. I feel so lucky to have gotten to do it, and meet the friends I did in the process. I have some more amazing parts to share, but this one was special. It will be a lifelong memory that will always make me smile.

Two years ago I rode Rita 7 and Rita 40 ending up in Ushuaia. Started in Villarrica Chile. Best moto adventure I have ever done!
It's an amazing route for sure. I have a lot of stuff coming from the Ruta 40 and other things in Patagonia. What a great part of the world for motorcycling!

What a trip.
It took me three times longer to watch this cuz I kept rewinding and rewatching the scenery.
Thats the response I hope people have. It's such an amazing place, I am lucky to have gotten to go see it and try my best to share it in a way that does it some justice.

Hahaha. He understood, so it worked. It was so amazing. And, we only lost him for a few minutes. He had gone to the gas station, he showed up about 5 minutes later.
Man that was a lot of bikes. What a trip.
It was, it was a lot of fun to see so many people out riding the route. Bikes everywhere! A lot of pedal bike people to!
The lake is amazing!! With the mountains as a backdrop, with snow on the peaks, just wow!!!
It is maybe the highlight. Such an awe inspiring place. I still sometimes can't believe I got to go do that.
One hell of a trip John! Beautiful scenery, but it also makes me realize just what we have here in the nw. So much looks quite similar at times. The caves were pretty special.
So many times, I would tell myself how much like the PNW many places looked. It was also so different in some ways. We do live in a pretty amazing place, that is for sure.

Wow, what a great video! Totally enjoyed watching it! I think we were with Terry at Lake Atitlan (Cisco's house on the lake) in Guatemala for a couple of nights. (He looks different with the beard! lol) I am looking forward to getting to the Carretera Austral now!
You were with Terry in Guat. I heard a story about climbing a fence to get home from a vegan restaurant. When you get closer and work on your timing. Try to go earlier in the season like we did. People who went later complained of traffic. We saw almost no other traffic.
