    Thank you for this. Our first combine was a 300 and I remember helping my Grandpa wrench on it a lot. We had a lot of trouble with the variable speed and the flat belt slipping. Ours was not a quick attach so it took a better part of a day to change heads. We traded it off on a F Gleaner because all the bearings were going out just like on yours. The best part of our 300 was the little 4 cylinder Perkins diesel. I run a Case IH 2366 now but your video sure brought back memories.

      I really wanted one with a Perkins diesel but couldn’t find one anywhere near me.

    Man, that is quite the project. That’s a lot of belts 💰! Lol. That’s exactly why older combines scare me..all the belts and bearings. It’s not to bad if they haven’t set idle for a long time or they were kept up regularly. She should be good belt wise for some time. I really enjoy seeing older equipment revitalized and put pack in operation. Compared to today’s newer models, you could probably rebuild that old girl completely and still do it for less than a annual combine payment for a newer one. Great work, and thanks for sharing! Have a wonderful thanksgiving!

    I can remember changing the variable speed belts on Maddy's 750-860 combines. We only had one hydrostatic drive combine, which you now own. We had an angle iron that hung on the front cab handle and the unloading auger sump, which carried the weight of the middle pulley. We could change a belt in just under an hour if everything went right. We usually changed 3-4 per summer from Texas to South Dakota. Obviously your machine is different from those. I remember a lot of the bolts were 7/16, so you got a chance to use a 5/8 and 11/16 wrench.

      I could see how a guy could get really good at changing the belts if need be.

    That large 6-inch idler on the main thrashing belt is machined on a plane you will have to adjust it, run it and then adjust it and test run it until it begins to track right. Absolutely love the videos just subscribed.

    Seeing the edges shiny on the table Elevator. You may need choke plates for your head. We had a 510 without choke plates years ago and it would slug the table elevator every 200 feet. Really enjoying the videos! Keep up the great work!

      Not to worried about it. Doubt 100 bushel corn planted at 12k pop loads it much.

    This is why the new stuff is hydro.... just wait till the hoses on those pop when the get old.

      I’ll just put on new hoses.

    • @MostlyInteresting
      @MostlyInteresting Před 9 měsíci

      what I mean is on the newest combines ...very little in the way of belts everything is running on a hydraulic motor. Transmissions are fully hydrostatic. It's a nightmare of hoses running running every which way. I am not sure that is an improvement.

      5 of the belts I had to get from our local AGCO dealer. The other 12 was a mix of All state ag parts, a belt wholesaler online, and my local short line dealer. Bearings were the same story.
