Ok this would make for good viewing...NORMALS only are to do a pass it on. No chefs allowed. Ben and James can only watch via another room on say, a smaller portable device (this will prevent Benneth from wanting to jump in and save the day bless him but NOOO - they will have to helplessly watch and scream, cringe or revel in what the normals are doing). The normals get ten minutes but twice eg Mike Barry Jamie.. then repeat. Then all gather when it's over and eat and score etc
omg yes!
Lol, good stuff. To be fully honest though, these normals have come a long way over the years. I think of them as Junior Chefs now.
@@Damaged262 you're so right.. That would mean Ben and James will have higher expectations now.. Mwahaha
@@Annie1962 Serves them right for paying attention ;-)
So basically, a lot more gimmicky bullshit and less focus on the food. Yeah, brilliant.
Could you do a video where you explain all your development process, such as how you create the recipes, how many times you do them before you film, how much you spend on making them and maybe your filming process?? Great James video!!
Yes! Would really love this too! Especially since he tried recreating the Kanafeh and it's very interesting to see his thought process why things didn't work out
Behind the scenes would be fantastic to see!
Here in Indonesia there are a few types of satay that doesn't use peanuts. Look up Sate Taichan for a more "fresh" taste involving key lime for marinade and a spicy chilly sauce, Sate Padang for those who like a spicier gravy sauce along with their satays(sate padang usually uses beef) and lastly just put kecap manis(sweet soy sauce) with tomatoes, shallots and chillies as the dipping sauce(this is usually used for goat satay but people sometimes order chicken satay with this sauce). These three are the most common ones you can find(at least in Jakarta where I live) but there are more variety of satays that exist here in Indonesia.
OMG, It's Mr Krieg. Hows it going ole fella
Very interesting. None of those are really what we, in english-speaking nations, would call a "satay", so I can see why they weren't featured in the video, but I'd definitely give them a go. It's always nice to see the lesser known variations on a dish that's made it big internationally.
That's interesting, because in Malaysia there is basically only one variant of sauce, which usually includes peanuts
Thank you! I love food like this but am allergic to peanuts.
@@spicefreak4726 Sure, that's fair as Indonesians also call panko breaded fish served with mashed potato as fish and chips
When Mike says "A step above?? Oh come on. Behave." I lost it. 13:01
Camden Coble I absolutely love Mike. He’s hilarious
Honestly...I know these are ads but they do them so well it doesnt matter.
Everything is an ad.
They able to wrap it in interesting way though.. They made me buy the kenwood blender 😂
They are kinda sexy, aren't they?
I mean.... All videos with sponsors are ads.
@@oropher777 I think that's all down to Barry and Mike getting "the sexies". Great camera work is GREAT camera work. :D
Still waiting for the useless gadgets Pass It On/ battle
The pretentious crook-neck spoonula has made several appearances already.

As someone with a Nut allergy i do appreciate the Nut free version.
Always wanted to cook for my wife and daughter who are allergic to nuts with an equalivant recipe. I have something.
With the amount of allergies, how about an allergy sub video. Always wanted a good pesto one for my girls.
Pesto is good with sunflower seeds. And it's cheaper than using pine nuts.
I would definitely be in favor of an allergy friendly episode. Maybe a couple of challenges where each of them finds an alternative for a different kind of commonly avoided ingredients.
Breadcrumbs to sub pine nuts!
I'd love an allergy sub video. I can't eat anything in the nightshade family, which includes tomatoes, potatoes, chili peppers, and eggplant.
I don't have any allergies but would love to know recipes as well for the people in my life who do.
Would love to see a budget comparison, one dish under £10, next £20 and so on
See if the first one can be under 2... or at the very least, under 5. (When cooking at home, it should be less expensive than eating out, no?) So 2, 8, 15, or something like that (per portion/person's meal). I'd really love to see 2, 5, 10, personally. But even 2-5, 10, and "pull out all the stops" and "let's throw money at it" would be interesting to see. Especially if the 2 or 10 ends up tasting the best.
I would love to see an ultimate Middle Eastern battle!
And there is so much more to explore than Moroccan food
These guys can't really do anything that's not British.
Read the news, mate!
I think the middle East has seen enough battles lately
Iran VS Pakistan?
5:00 whoever told jamie that chicken satay uses chicken breast is insane! as an indonesian, we always prefer thighs
*Wobbles stick*
For the first time in forever, Ben stopped himself before throwing out another innuendo into the world.
Didn't quite stop him from continuing to act it out though.
Baby steps... Baby steps...
Im a Javanese Indonesian, and im watching a guide by 3 brits making chicken satay.. this is sacrilegious hahahahaha, great vid
Lmao so true 😂😂😂 even when i saw the chef version i feel lil bit offended
Christina Wina - pretend they are doing Malaysian satay, not Indonesian sate! Best sate I EVER had was at a kaki lima in Kota Ambon made by a little Javanese bude. It came with lontong of course.
@Tyrant Kragith wait..... What....??????
14:31 congrats to Mike for just inventing the gado gado
The salad that push the definition of a salad
to be honest i actually don't know exactly how to make chicken satay myself, because here in indonesia they're super cheap and it's way easier to just buy them😅 but two things i know for sure is that the chicken aren't supposed to be yellow; i think there's probably little to no marinade in the authentic indonesian version, definitely no turmeric. also there's no coconut milk in the peanut sauce, but honestly if it's good then why not, right? about the chicken thigh/breast debate, yes breast is more common but thighs are fine too. you know what's even better though? skewer some chicken skins along with the meat! as a kid (well, until now actually) that's mt favorite part of these satays :D
if i were to suggest anything, i'd tell you guys to try to find indonesian sweet soy sauce - they're very sweet and way thicker than the salty soy sauce that's more commonly known. it's usually drizzled on top of the satay and the peanut sauce (because we usually don't serve them in a separate dish). there's also this thing called lontong that we serve with satay, which is really just rice wrapped in banana leaves then steamed so it forms a rice cake kinds thing. pretty sure our neighbors in malaysia have something similar as well!
but anyways, i loveeeee the video! indonesian cuisine doesn't get international spotlight as often as it deserves, so seeing videos like these always makes me happy❤️ thanks, sorted!
I love making them. here in the Netherlands it's not that hard to get very close to the original Indonesian versions.
ed home i tend to make satay when i make a complete rice table. (to bad it takes days preparing and cooking to make all the extra side dishes) but it's all so good.
i do know that the coconut milk is more a twist you see in the Suriname kitchen. it does work but the satay becomes very sweet.
I think these are much more similar to Thai style satay, though the peanuts are only in the sauce for thai style not the actual marinade
I would love to see 3 chicken katsu ramen recipes.
Ooo great shout... we'll add it to the list
Ya but pork katsu
@@chryzparnell9488 Maybe just katsu ramen and/or katsu don in general? Opens the door for a variety of meats and a yasai (vegetable) middle tier.
Also, if you want a cheaty tip: Black pepper instantly makes any chip shop or japanese-style curry taste so much better.
@@chryzparnell9488 I said chicken as many cultures/faiths have prohibitions against pork beef or seafood.
@@jeremybiwer8756 it's more common to have pork instead of chicken katsu in Japan. If you ask for katsu in Japan, it's always pork. Chicken katsu needs to be specifically called chicken katsu.
Here I am, a Malaysian learning how to make Chicken Satay from 3 Brits and oh my goodness they all look so good!
I agree with Mike, thighs just makes better seasoned and more succulent satay. But, I’m really interested to try Jamie’s and Ben’s marinade soon
I have to ask this because I did a double take on your comment and spent the last five minutes laughing, but... when you say “they all look so good”, are you referring to the food or the three Brit’s? 😂
@Alaunt Lmaoo! The satays indeed look soo good but the three Brits are the reason I’m glued to all their videos 🤣🤣

When will we see the next pass it on and can we have it so that Jamie or Barry have to sabotage the dish and the rest of them have to eat the full thing but if they suspect sabotage, the sabatour himself is forced to eat the whole thing creating a interesting situation where they want to ruin it but not so badly that it is too obvious
Omg I need this now
Don't Jamie and Barry already kind of sabotage the pass it ons? :P
caesar2164 but not purposely tho, I want to see them in their cruelest form, trying to decimate a dish that he knows is going to be eaten by the others
As a food lover with nut allergies, I really appreciate you doing a nut-free recipe. I would love more nut-free recipe options!!! Maybe then I won’t feel like I’m missing out on so much.
I'm definitely going to give Mike's quick recipe a try!
Honestly though, I'm most blown away by the fact that I don't need a BBQ to get grilled chicken skewers anytime I want, by using the broiler. You've changed my life!
Jamie,
You have maDe your marinaDe. Now you waiT for the best marinaTe.
I hope that helps.
best satay is made by charcoal fire
Yes!!
Yes! The charcoal makes a difference.
YESS!!
Some people don't have access to charcoal fires, but I think using the broiler/grill on an oven at least replicates the cooking technique a bit, including the little bits of char.

I would do the peanut quick sauce for everyday and for the fact that I have 90% of the material on hand. The other recipes are probably fantastic but there are materials that you will have to hunt down and it maybe a bit more difficult to get a hold of at your local supermarket.
So happy to see you guys trying a nut free version of a recipe!! Can we see more in the future, maybe? As someone with a peanut allergy it's great to see altered versions of dishes like this. It makes us feel like we can be as adventurous with our cooking as those without an allergy!! ♥️
As someone with a food allergy (peppers/capsicum/capsaicin), I always love to see both recipes that allow for replacements of things that someone might not be able to eat AND recipes with alternates that people genuinely like and aren't just suffering through. These videos with considerations to allergens and vegans give me life, you guys. Good job.
I don't understand how you don't cook the sauce. You're basically eating raw spices. When you cook the sauce, the spices will add more depth and flavour to the sauce.
Only the last sauce was cooked almost similar to the sate sauce in South East Asia.... although could do with more chillies.
Per your first point: these videos are usually to show levels of quickness. The first two are almost always "cheat" methods or something close. Only the third is ever a full-on, proper recipe. The exception is that sometimes the second one is vegan or something and that's what makes it unique. And per your second point, they never try to be that authentic. That's not the point. I'm not surprised he didn't put many chillies. Ben hates spice and so do I, so it's just a personal preference ^_^ --- also I'm not trying to say you're wrong, or anything. I was just trying to explain where they're coming from, I guess.
azzura mustapha The ‘no cooked’ version includes cheats such as peanut butter; which is cooked and makes your point kind of irrelevant. Everything wasn’t raw it just involved shortcut ingredients that make it more achievable for a limited ingredient kitchen.
@@pred3008 shes talking about the spices, not peanuts. i too do the peanut butter shortcut, but i make sure i at least toast my spices for its essential oils to be released, which also deepens the flavour of the sauce.
The first two cheat versions are designed to be easy to replicate. To achieve real depth of flavour spices are ground crushed cooked for various times burnt spice is vile. a blended dry pre ground spice in a sauce would add little flavour by heating. This is an improvement by bought satay standard in the UK. The British palette for spice and heat is not the same as other cultures. So essentially a british version will be inspired by the flavour but never authentic. Its simply not a process brits have in normal cooking to cook spice. Average british cooks would probably make it taste worse by attempting it. We play with world cuisines. Nobody claims they can cook a cuisine as well as anyone born and raised to balance flavours from another continent. Consider it enthusiastic amateurs that can be copied not a master class of authentic flavour.
The heat of the nuts basically cooks them....
I’m so grateful for a nut-free seed-tay! Nuts are in wayyy too many things I wanna try that look good but I need to try this ☺️

Peanuts are not technically 'Nuts' but Legumes like Peas and Beans. And the 'Seeds' Jaimie used could be classified as 'Nuts' (Loosely speaking) - Very confusing.
Could you elaborate, please?
The first recipe that Mike did (20 Min.) was NUT FREE although it was implied it had nuts in it Peanuts are not 'Nuts' but legumes. Jaimie's recipe was supposed to be 'Nut Free' but nuts are the kernel of a fruit and Pumpkin Seeds could be called a nut because they do come out of a fruit - As I said: Loosely Speaking. And Ben used Peanuts as well, which are not 'Nuts'. When people say 'Nuts' they usually mean the kernel of a fruit from a Tree.
@@jimbearone They mean whatever sets off their 'nut' allergy which is what really matters to them. Sometimes people get bogged down by precision and miss the wood for the trees.
@@jimbearone I always thought peanuts were ground nuts? Not tree nuts. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here. Is there more than one type of peanut out there?
Im getting hungry jusg watching the video, keep up the amazing work guys love the video 😀
Roast the shallots and garlic in a pan on low until charred on both sides. Superb flavor!
All three looked delicious! Ben's definitely is the one I'll be making. It looks like it would have the fullest, most nuanced flavor; thus, closer to the real chicken sate! You guys are knocking these videos out of the ball park! Well done. I would love to see you guys do three versions of Mexican mole--quick, vegetarian, and full-out authentic.
Looking forward to trying these out!
I'll never be able to compare them, but at least I can now try satay chicken for the first time in my life! Thank you for a nut-free recipe!
Recommended for another 3 Ways...traditional shepherds pie.
I’ve actually never had satay chicken, so I think for a first timer I’d absolutely try Mike’s version. I think Jamie’s is absolutely brilliant though. It gives people with peanut allergies the chance to enjoy it without having a near death experience. I’d love to try Ben’s version, he added a lot more flavors that generally add depth to a dish, so I’m super curious on how different Ben’s is from Mike’s. Thanks for another amazing video guys! ❤️
so after you did your first food combo video, i made a chicken satay curry thing that night. honest to god, mixing finely diced gherkins through a simple sauce like Mike's is amazing and definitely adds a talking point to the meal. keep it up u fabulous people!!!!! xx
I love when only a few people recommended the video idea. They show a white screen filling up with all the recommendations like usual but when there's only like 4, the screen stays mostly blank. And the shot only stays on screen for like 2 seconds. Anyway, just wanted to say I enjoy that!
Awesome! been waiting for a satay one for a while
I made Mike’s version but warmed up the sauce and air fried the chicken. It was top notch! My toddlers and husband both loved it! I served it with cilantro lime rice, and lumpia with sweet chili sauce.
What a great coincidence! Ive just finished eating chicken satay for dinner when sorted uploaded this video lol (its currently 10pm in my city)
Never thought I would like a satay chicken recipe, as I despise peanut butter. But Jamie's one is tempting and I might give it a time. You've produced a recipe for people who have nut allergies, well done Jamie.
Mike wins for me!
My kids love the version of this I make with isn’t even close to “right” 😂 I just took what I had and made something similar to satay but Ive been wanting to make a proper quick version. Mike’s will be perfect for that. I’d like to try the other 2 but I’m not sure the flavor pay off would be with the extra work at my house. Maybe if I was just feeding adults who would appreciate the extra effort. As an allergy parent I do love that you guys did the nut free version. Allergy friendly options are so great to see!
I really like that they started making the middle option a challenge/altered dish, (like a nut free satay). It’s a cool way to introduce alternatives to dishes for people who have dietary restrictions or who just don’t like a certain big ingredient, and it gives an “advanced normal” like Jamie the chance to try something different, so you don’t just have three examples of the exact same dish with longer and longer marination times.
That Quick version Will be my sunday dinner!
Next pass it on - Two rounds of five minutes each. First time round they can decide their own order. Second time round should then be based on the scores they gave themselves in the first round (from best to worst obvs).
You guys always make me hungry!
We make a lot of meat stixs (local name) and I saw a good idea for freezing them. Clip the stixs off so they don’t poke holes in the freezer bag.
Thighs all the way for flavour and price. 🇨🇦
Nice hack!
As someone with so many allergies that my normal meals are usually just pasta and marinara, I greatly appreciate how you guys included a nut free version of this!
I love that he used "zhuzh" as a verb for blending, because I do the same thing! Not quite sure how to spell it, though...
Desperately need satay now. Thanks guys!
YOU'RE WELCOME!

Mike's recipes are always my favourite
Brilliant timing! I'm making chicken satay today.

Do the satay or Pork Belly ultimate battle! And do the Fried Rice comparing!
i just bought sate padang and this appear in my recommendation..what a perfect timing..im not gonna drooling this time watching sorted video because im pretty sure my satay is on a par with theirs XD..
Do a chef only pass it on but they have to trade off every 10 mins and only have an hour and throw a surprise twist in the last ten mins that Barry has to plate it all up but hasn't seen or heard them prepare it.
Barry is good at plating. Get Jaimie to do it
Right now its raining, but when the weather gets better again, I really want to do a BBQ with a few friends and Im craving chicken satay for a few months. Only thing holding me back - when its really hot outside (nice weather in the summer), I feel like nuts are too "heavy" and fatty for me... If the version with seeds make the meat taste "fresher" and brighter, I will try this recipe or just go 50/50 or something. Thanks for the inspiration, wouldnt have thought about that.
ooh mate I can't wait to try ALL of these
Mike's is still my go to recipe, it's so good
You guys haven't lived until you have cooked a whole bird in satay. :-)
I have all the ingredients & am defrosting a whole chook. You're on.
And cooked over a wood fire.
I feel like Mike's would be one I'm able to do easily at home when I'm tired after work, but I'd love to have my friends and family with nut allergies be able to eat chicken satay using Jamie's recipe. I'd love to test out Ben's recipe, but it would be a weekend or vacation meal rather than a casual one.
Ultimate porridge/congee battle!
Love the video! Would like to see a burger with 3 different types of meat 3 three ways.
Really nice keep sharing more and more
I simply love the combination of coconut milk with peanut butter. When we cook asian coconut-soups at home, one variation is always to put in some chunky peanut butter, as it gives the complete dish a wonderful peanutty taste that you don't get if you just put in some roasted peanuts.
What a great idea... Adds an amazing texture
I would love to see a recipe for making a natural cola soft drink as it is my favorite.
Loved it! One question though, why take chunky peanut butter (Mike's recipe) and then smoothen it in the blender? Won't you lose the textural element of peanut bits?
Omg Sassy Mike is amazing , omg at last when he calls both of them wrong that's the best part of whole video... Just because of his Sassyness I am going to make his version today...
As I'm watching these talented gentlemen make this wonderful dish with these lovely ingredients, I'm making my dinner: Hamburger Helper.
I'm not even joking. It's simmering right now as I type this.
I will be trying Mike's one, peanut butter all the way! Any ideas for a replacement for palm sugar in the recipes, something more environmentally friendly?
I'd love to see a lasagne version of this. I generally really like when you do something that's really complex/long and give a 20 mins cheat video! Tandoori naan would. Also be interesting to see broken down at three different recipes
One of my favorite dishes.
I never thought about putting in water to dilute my chicken satay marinade. I put in white vinegar instead, to balance out the sweetness of the peanut butter.
I was so excited to see a recipe for satay that did not use nuts, being allergic to them.
However like most of the other people i know that suffer with nut allergies, you've replace the nuts with seeds that we can't eat either.😀
Thanks for doing a no-nut recipe! So interesting to see a way to make something I've never been able to eat before, can't wait to try it. More no-nut recipes please!
As a mad foodie that can’t eat nuts, the idea of that nut free satay excites me greatly.Amazing job chaps!

Seeds, eh? I've had toasted coconut no-nut satay before and that was a remarkably accurate replica. Will have to try yours some time to see how it compares.
Nut allergies here, so we often sub sunflower butter for anything calling for peanut butter. Usually turns out well!
There is actually no nut chicken satay in Indonesia. It's called sate taichan. If i wasn't wrong it uses lime juice and a bit of msg for the marinade, and uses sambal instead of nut sauce
