Everyone has genre preferences, but everyone who watches polyphia wishes they could do a playthrough like this.

It’s actually a good note for aspiring musicians to take.
It’s a habit I’ve had to break through years of practice and playing.
People have a tendency to try too hard, and play with very tense posture. When you’re calm, like Tim, you can fall back on muscle memory to carry you through. You slip right into the groove and it feels as easy as it looks.
Granted, his ability to play this calmly with this kind of arrangement is the result of literally thousands if not tens of thousands of hours spent practicing.

Tim has also been playing guitar for over 20 years even though hes only 29. I find a bit of consolation in that.
Watching Tim Henson play really makes me wanna put down my guitar. Then watching covers a day after this song came out really made me wanna quit 😂😂

If you can't play the fast parts, just play the bosa nova part to make yourself feel good :) and by that you can at least play a part of their song :D

They've actually changed a lot. They no longer try to fit as many notes into a single song and make memorable hooks that get stuck in your head in a very good way.

Tim pulls all the genres into his playing. He writes on a generic synth.. listens to rap hiphop et al and just .. brings it all together. Tim does write hooks though

neato seeing a country artist branch out in this way :) Curious how your journey ends up changing your own music. Great reaction with some interesting insight I didn't know - and yeah, this song is like Cirque du Soleil in musical form.
This goes back to what I have told all my guitar students. If you can play anything you learn on a nylon string guitar...playing the same on electric will double or quadruple in speed. That is why i have all my students learn to play everything on nylon strings before learning electric guitar. Just speaking the truth. If you are a guitar player, you can teat what I have been teaching for years. If you can pull of electric guitar tricks on nylon, you can do it on electric faster and easier.

I'm not sure I've seen a band make better use of ghost notes than Polyphia. Their use of triplets and double triplets is a key element that makes their sound unique.
Their style reminds me a lot of Al Di Meola earlier stuff from back in the 80's and 90's. Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucía. Check it out! However...These guys are Awesome!
I would argue the action on my classicals and my ibbys are very similar. In fact what drew me to Ibanez was the slightly wider string spacing (especially on my old 540p's) and thin as paper flat necks-like my classicals. Now a steel string? Yes-closer spacing, higher action-more fighting to play-lol. But I love classical guitars-as a crossover Godin does it right (Tosin knows...) But these Ibanez custon nylons are prob set up like their signature electrics-and I bet we see these for sale in the Ibby line soon. Polyphia is amazing🤘

A lot of newer guitar players struggle with building the finger strength to be able to vibe like this. The ease at which they strum obviously comes from decades of playing nonstop for hours each day. Its the same with pianists, when you first start your fingers don't have the muscles built up yet. Only after years of 3-5 hours of practice EVERY day do your fingers become adjusted to it. For Trumpet players as another example the main point of pain you have to get past is your lips. Louis Armstrong (for those who don't know, one of the greatest trumpeters ever) is known for having played so much that he literally split his lip open from playing too long. For true musicians though, the cathartic joy of playing literally outweighs the physical pain that your chosen instrument exacts upon the part of your body primarily responsible for manipulating your instrument. Its sometimes more painful to stop playing than to stop because your fingers or lips hurt because true musicians are so passionate about what they do. This is apparently obvious in the demonstration of the guitarists technique in this band. 10/10.

The string tension is the biggest difference to me on nylon.
You can set up an acoustic to play like an electric to be fair. I would imagine these guitars aren’t set up like a typical Spanish guitar. Obviously not taking anything away from these guys. I will never be able to play or compose like them 😂
I have had acoustics with wonderful action. I find that high action on acoustics is either because its a poorly made guitar, or the maker is targeting amateur players who beat the shit out of their guitar with big floppy spatulas (picks). A solid pick with proper taper, and proper technique can be just as loud on decent action and sound 100x better too.

I greatly appreciate their skill and talent and expression of art, that being said… I’ve heard this song about 20 times and analyzed by probably 10 different musicians… it’s just not for me. As much as I wish it was. I feel like Tims talent and training is capable of something so much more epic and grand. Would love to see what else Tim does next.

Animals as Leaders (Javier Reyes, Tosin Abasi, Matt Gartska) and Ichika Nito (solo guitarist) are just as good or even better musicians than Clay/Scott and even Tim, but obviously have different and unique sounds comparatively. I highly recommend the Brain Dance by animals as leaders and Illusory Sense by Ichika, but they have many great songs.

Impressive. But, everything sounds so sterile. Is everything processed through some program? The drums don't even sound like 'real' drums.
Look up Clay Aeschliman's playthrough of this song. The drums are super impressive when you can see him playing
I read Tim actually writes everything digitally, like composes on his laptop, then transcribes each part then they get to it. Explains why the drums sound like a drum machine.
its compressed and mastered very well obviously, but they are indeed just that clean in their playing. the most "effects" you hear in this song are the synth pads and the effects on the bass. the guitar and drums are rather clean
country instrumental is very pedestrian. listen to children of bodom or the drum playthrough in demolisher by slaughter to prevail. metal musicians are on another level from the rest of the world.
