The crescent falchion is really great to pick up early, but having a sharp uchigatana (near that vanguard) /falchion/kilij (also near that vanguard) is probably better for a dex character when you get some levels.
The sharp weapon upgrade path means the weapons scale with Dex more, so a Sharp +5 Uchigatana scales S with dex (you need a Pure Bladestone for +5, though, and that shit's rare.)

There actually is a really good Dex weapon in the Shrine of Storms. There's a Kilij in the middle of the big area, which is basically a stronger, heavier Falchion.
There's also a katana of some sort somewhere in that same area, which is also pretty sweet.

It has VERY high damage and has the highest Bleed effect in the game, but it drains your health and doesn't scale with stats. Still pretty good for some of the earlier stages. XD

The skeletons in Shrine of Storms are weak to bludgeon so you can actually punch them and do decent damage.
