I'm pretty familiar with gopher tortoises. Peeing while being handled is a very common defensive mechanism. Also, rattlesnakes frequently take over gopher tortoises burrows. I'm surprised you didn't see one.

Awesome place to visit but the video of the Manatee underwater was not taken on Cumberland. The water on both sides is not nearly that clear

You shouldn’t handle wild animals, it stresses them out. Surprised I even would need to point that out
