When I dance with a follower who likes to swing open, I feel like it cuts off my ability to lead some patterns, especially those I had intended to begin with a rock and go. Maybe I'm waiting too long to initiate the rock and go, but I think for partners that don't swing open, my rock and go leads usually feel smooth and succeed as intended.

It could be bc you and your partner are not connected well. It also may be because you are giving to much room on the first step of the rock n go.
