Yup, it was called GT Academy. I loved that show. It's Amazing to see a Gamer become a Real Pro Driver.

Yep. I remember it exactly. At one point there was almost a milion players taking part in this online. There was like 30 or something different challenges? I was hyped when I've reached top 100 at one of them :) the other 29... well... not so good :D
This movie is giving me a nostalgic feeling of when my dad was still alive. When I was a kid, he used to play this on PS1 at night, beer at the side, shirt off, cig on his finger while holding the controller. I miss you dad.

This is insane. The Gran Turismo franchise has been near and dear to me my whole life... and it's actually getting a thoroughly developed story-based adaptation; an uncommon feat for most racing games. So stoked to see this.
By the way, that has happened in NASCAR too. Kids compete in Iracing and if they have enough talent in the game simulator sometimes sponsors and teams will put money behind those drivers to help develop in through the ranks. The most successful driver that has come through that type of program is William Byron, who replaced Jeff Gordon in the 24 car once he retired.
If only iRacing was more affordable

Not only did this happen irl as ppl gave mentioned, but also racing drivers have used simulators for "training" for a while now, so yeah not a far fetched story. Looks great, fun reaction.
I remember playing as a kid,it felt like real life. The driving in the game is just like driving in real life. Except for tapping the brakes over and over on turns. 😊👍🏼
Gaby is right about the Drums cause i learned drum patters on Rockband and became an actual drummer in a Punk rock band. The lead singer one day came over and saw me playing on the hardest difficulty and immediately ask me to come to one of his rehearsals. I didn't think i could ever play the real drums and eight songs later history was written. Thanks for mentioning that my good man Gaby.. Made my day cause we said it at the same time.. lol 4:09

@ZAVHALLA No I highly doubt that. Speak for yourself. What Granturismo fan said I want to watch a film about people playing a racing game? It's an interesting and unexpected plot they chose, but don't think many people would have thought of that, or any worthy plot based on a game with no story. I've played since Sport, and not once heard any mention of a movie or the desire for one until it was almost done filming.
I love cars, racing games/movies, but I wouldn't have thought someone could come up with a decent plot for a Granturismo movie.

IT HAS HAPPENED for the NISSAN GT ACADEMY, they took players and trained them to become pro drivers.
I remember getting gran Turismo 5 for the PS3 got the collector edition that came with a model car and a full on racing manual for ya car and I kid you not if ya read the full manual you would be a fully licensed mechanic and how to adjust and repair ya car or vehicle in ur drive way it's so in depth that just like this true story ya probably can become a race car driver heck that manual book taught me so much about vehicles best 200 dollar I spent for a game collecter editon and pretty much became a self mechanic with vehicles
The movie was better than advertised. And I remember Jann's crash at the Ring. Aside from F1/F2 and a few select IndyCar crashes, I've never seen one in modern years that took my breath away like I did. I haven't seen a car go end over end that quickly since the infamous Sauber crashes at Le Mans, and it scared me shitless - especially because of the fact that the car literally shot over the track fencing.
That Fred Savage movie is The Wizard (1989)

Tbh as Much As Am a bit Into Grant Turismo games and The fact That this live action Adaptation is based on a True story about a Pro Racer makes me Even more stocked to see it in theater

There's a CZcamsr by the name of Emelia Hartford who does racing content and actually owns a few (about 9) cars who is also an actor. She's got a part in the movie, but I don't know the chracter role.
The main character is Jann Mardenborough who, in real life, entered the Nissan backed GT Academy in 2011, beat 90,000 other driver's and won a drive with Nissan at the Dubai 24 Hour.
You noticed Orlando Bloom and David Harbour, but did you notice Djimon Hounsou as the father of Jann?

F1 drivers, who are basically on the peak of motorsport, train thousands of hours on simulators. They're way more advanced than console hardware, of course, but there is some transition from on thing to the other.
There was a TV show, I don't know if anyone remembers, Aaron Stone, where the game that he used to play becomes the real life for a kid.
Simulators cannot replicate the traction you feel when driving a real car.
Jaby sounds like those rich boy haters in the movie by saying that the kid can't be good at driving in real life like he does in the game.
Most video games like this should’ve made into a life action I don’t know if it’s gonna work out but Anything is possible
To this day I'm still waiting for Crysis.... although for non gamers it would look like another generic sci fi movie.
It is a true story they got the best Gran Turismo gamer in the world and gave him a real racing contract and him came third in a real race. Also Lewis Hamilton also got a contract because he was good at the game and better than his brother 8 time F1 champion.
I passed my driving test by using a Gran Turismo SIM so it can work also the Gran Turismo movies is based on GT Academy

Sim racing has advanced close to the real life, especially the ones used by professional race car drivers. Like formula 1, they got dedicated sim drivers
So the Jann Mardenborough story then, that was around GT5 and the Prologue before GT-Sport. I took part in that but with a controller I was 19.800 something out of 90.000 my time was around 6000 places the same as others it was a real close competition. wish I had a steering rig to have gotten closer up the list. Jann Mardenborough managed to flip a car at the Nordschleife Nurburgring circuit he cleared the fence killing a spectator, I doubt that's in the movies as that happened years later after GT Academy.
There was almost a milion players registered online when first GT Academy launched with GT5.
Based on Jann Mardenborough from UK. Nissan did the GT Academy to give the best Gran Turismo players a chance to win their dream job in the Nissan racing team, where Nissan will cover the expenses of training.
I'm not a big fan of racing games, but I bought a G29 just for Gran Turismo. Need For Speed, Burnout, RidgeRacer are definitely fun, but Gran Turismo is next level as well as other famous driving simulation pc games.
GT academy, and GT championships every year. He hit a point on the sim practices (racers do do) is harder then the real if a sim. That can be a help, but there are differences.

I haven’t played Gran Turismo in more than one part, but I liked the film adaptation of the game based on the game, the trailer is awesome, it looks much better than all of these Fast and the Furious and Need for Speed, I mean the films that they filmed on the campaign from the Fast and the Furious and Need for Speed, there was a rival in the world of cinema, it really looks cool, though I don’t like the genre of such races in games, but I need to play
The fact is that with racing game’s becoming more simulation realistic and the sim racers nowadays are more than capable of racing in real life more and more and i have heard from real drivers that sim racers are actually nowadays soo much better in racing in real life

I mean, fighter Jet pilots spend a lot of times on simulators, obviously doesn't compare to a home console. Same with aerospace pilots.
There are a good amount of professions where people spend a good amount of time on simulations before they start field practice. Mainly because it's a lot cheaper to have someone make mistakes in a simulation vs. real-life scenarios.
Also, at some point, not sure if it's still valid. Playing GT could help you earn a real FIA Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile racing license, which is not a DMV license but in theory it'll allow your to drive in circuits.
Professional drivers train on simulators whenever they are not in the car and can drive the car through the course eyes closed.
