Duke Study: Women less likely to receive CPR from a bystander in public

  • A new study led by Audrey Blewer, PhD, MPH, assistant professor in the Duke Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, finds that women are 14% less likely than men to receive CPR from a bystander while suffering cardiac arrest in public. Blewer uncovers that this is something women experience in predominantly white, Black, and Hispanic neighborhoods. While many are working on solutions to reduce the disparity, Blewer said everyone can ‘call, push, and shock,’ to help save a life.
