Leeds were effectively relegated from the Premier League when they suffered a 4-1 defeat away at Bolton in the 2003/04 season. It would take another 16 years before they returned to the top flight.

The last time Leeds were in the Premier League:
Liverpool were still only half way to ending 30 years of hurt. They were 4th and 30 points off the title.
Arsenal were invincible. They do well to go 5 games unbeaten these days.
Charlton, Bolton, Fulham and Birmingham finished in the top half.
Man City finished in 16th place without any sort of real money.
Leicester and Wolves were also relegated. Both look to set play European football next season. Perhaps its the efforts of these two that should inspire Leeds the most.
Don't forget Bolton only just survived on the last day of the previous season at West Ham's expense and they battered Leeds under foot that day
