    The truck is like a snake.. The head leads and the tail will follow.. When offsetting remember put the nose of the trailer in the lane next to the lane your trying to move into.(2nd on left or 2nd on right) Once clear place the head of the truck back in the lane your going into (remember your many yards away, so map out the space on the ground like an imaginary line), keep pulling forward until your straight and check both mirrors ( to see if you can see the cones or lines) before backing into your space.. If need G O A L..

    My fav tip when backing up is to first put my hands at the bottom of the steering wheel. If I want to move my trailer to the left when backing up I move the steering wheel to the left. If I want to move my trailer to the right when backing up I move the steering wheel to the right. (If that makes sense :)

    I’m so glad to have found this one. I start CDL school May 2 and I have a hard enough time backing my horse trailer let alone a 53’ semi trailer. My husband and I have our own authority and he’s going to tutor me but I’m still very anxious about all of this yet casting that anxiety on the Lord to guide me.

But I love to drive, and I'm done with working in an office all day, I want to be out on the road driving, and making a decent living. I love watching your videos. A few 💎 1st make sure you ace the pre trip inspection & safe start that will leave you all 12 points with that being said the straight back 1 pull up 1 get out and 👀 if you are not able to perform the maneuver in the number of tries your allowed and are going to hit a cone just hit it & finish the maneuver it’s only 2 points and you don’t lose more points for hitting more cones only lose points if you pull up or get out and 👀 if you apply this method you will only have used 6 of 12 points on the straight back offset & 90 & pass assuming you know how to drive the truck ✌️

  • @glennvanzandt3011
    @glennvanzandt3011 Před 2 lety +2

    The best formula I found was this. If you are offsetting right, turn left all the way and hold for 5 seconds. Turn back the other way until truck and trailer are straight. At this point I do 1 pull up and then it's just a straight back.

    I start my class on Monday the 28th between practicing on our own truck, my husband helping me and listening to your videos I’m starting to get better at backing up. I suck at the offsets and I’ve got the shifting, double clutching and floating the gears down. But, offsets are kicking my butt.

Now I’ve had my cdl for 8 yrs with all endorsements and looking for a new job and most of the jobs I’ve applied for want you to know how to drive a stick. I guess I’m going to trucking school to learn.

    • @sophia_jane
      @sophia_jane Před 3 lety +2

      I'm not Niesha but what really helped me on nailing my pre-trip 100% was breaking up all the stuff on the pretrip list into sections in my mind. Like one section was the front of the truck, then the passenger side of the engine, then the driver side of the engine, etc. Then for each section I made a flash card on an index card and wrote down everything I needed to check for that section. Then I put them all in order and memorized them, and recited them out loud from memory without looking at the card. Then when I thought I covered everything on that section I would turn over the flash card and check to see if I missed anything - your mistakes will motivate you not to forget the part you missed again! Keep reciting and practicing until you've aced them all. A lot of it is repetitive and kind of common sense anyway - you check all brakes on all axles the same way, tires are all very similar, all things that hold fluid need to have no leaks, all things with caps need to have caps secured, etc. And there is a sort of flow to it. It sounds hard but it's not as hard as it looks at first glance. Good luck!
