Bananarama perform Venus at Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park 2019. For more amazing performances from this year's Festival in a Day visit BBC iPlayer: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p07m...
The 80s were the good old days, and so was 2019. The lesson is to live for the moment, because the future is unknown. We were happy then and didn't know how much we would appreciate that today. Be happy every day. God bless us all.
5 exam days of my final year Civil Engineering exams at Sunderland Polytechnic. Every morning of those 5 days, before walking to the exam halls in the summer 1989, 15 mins of Bananarama to calm my nerves. Thank you ladies, thank you so very very much from a reasonably successful Civil Engineer.
@@alanwhite7912 Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that. I think a week or so after I made that initial comment, I heard the original version by Shocking Blue on the radio. I loved Venus even more since now I was finally introduced to the original version. I love Shocking Blue's version, but I grew up with Bananarama's cover as a teen. Thanks for the correction
This is why good music transcends time. It still rocks so fresh after so many decades. Modern musicians should learn from this. Plus they are so down to earth and not having attitude like so many "so called" divas of the younger generation.
I agree with you that there are some divas in the younger generation but don't generalize too much. There are some young ones who are sick and tired of the older generation criticizing them. I've got a niece who is only in her 20s who is a success due to hard work and not relying on my sister but getting where she is on her own. She recently did the Manchester marathon, trained for six months and raised a £1000 for Alzheimer's. Since I've been on the internet I've witnessed more and more musical talent in the youth😁🎧🎸👍❤️🎼
Keep rocking girls ,were all getting older but my god you belted this one out, always sing my heart out, time flies but the 80,s will always live on ,52 and love every minute, take me back there now
This is such an ear catchy & head bopping song from Bananarama. Whenever I hear this on BBC Radio 2 I just have to turn up the volume on the radio at home, work or when travelling & enjoy it! Anybody who listens to the Sounds of the Eighties show on Friday evenings from 8pm to 10pm by Gary Davies on BBC Radio 2 will recognise that part of this song from one of the 'screams' starts of the 2nd half of the show at 9pm albeit with different but clever lyrics: 'He's got it, Gary he's got it. He's my Venus & my desire, Gary Davies' etc etc! A great show to listen to indeed.
I'm amazed at the negativety surrounding these girls. Yes, I remember Bananarama back in the glory days of the 80's, but having scrolled down the comments, the people are saying this and that. Going out on a limb here, but Bananarama started out with 3 friends performing their songs. Now? I see two friends who are still friends after all the years between them and now. Still doing what they love and doing it well. Yes, they are older, no, they have nothing to be ashamed of. Yes, both Karen and Siobhan dated and married musicians from their era, but would any of you, in your hearts, not just be happy for them? If as you guys state, they relied on a lot of stuff, but they got paid for doing so, and well done to them. If some of the songs were just punching in the time, it would have been obvious, but the years, the hits, the highs and lows, can anyone really begrudge them their success? I couldn't. Well done, Sara and Karen, thank you for the memories, hoping all of your family, extended etc. is doing incredibly well. Peace.
That many words deserved a reply. They were awesome in the 80s,great run of hits and fantastic videos.Great to see them still putting on a great show.Without naming names I would take Bananarama over any of the current Big Female Singers. The 80s was a golden age with M.J,Madonna,Whitney,Prince,The 2 Georges,Duran,Spandau etc,as I often say to the youngsters "They're Better Than Beiber"!!....Good To See Passion Is Alive,Yeah Baby You Got It!!
"Venus" (originally by Shocking Blue) Goddess on the mountain top Burning like a silver flame The summit of beauty and love And Venus was her name She's got it Yeah, baby, she's got it I'm your Venus, I'm your fire At your desire Well, I'm your Venus, I'm your fire At your desire Her weapons were her crystal eyes Making every man mad Black as the dark night she was Got what no one else had Wah!
Wow. These girls move like teenagers. So inspiring to see folks keeping their mojo working with such joy in what they do. "God bless the child that's got her own".
Members Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward have a memoir detailing their time in the band, Really Saying Something. They formed the group with Siobhan Fahey in 1981, releasing hits in the 1980s including Venus and Cruel Summer.
it was really nice too see all 3 of them get back together too me Bananarama will always be the 3 of them not the 2 of them so it was about time they all got back together no matter what happen in the past its was nice too see them put all that behind them for the fans
All these years later, the ladies can still rock! :)
They've barely aged too

AFTER ALL THESE YEARS I STILL LOVE THESE WOMEN AND THIS SONG!!
Yes please !!!
Great stage presence, and they've still got great voices.
One of the greatest songs by one of the most legendary 80s girl bands ever, and it still sounds hecking amazing.
It is a cover of a song from the 60s by Shocking Blue.

@@coryspang7548 I didn't know it was cover in the 80s until my Dad told me. As a teenager I had a crush on Karen but I think a lot of lads did.
It wasn't their song its a shocking blue song.
@@zog97xy I know that now. I've known that fact since two years ago.
Yesssssss! Bring back the 80s!!! The two remaining ladies look fantastic well done
C Hoc ... I disagree. Both look fantastic in my eyes!
Keren Woodward, still a stunner after all these years. She married Andrew Ridgely, there’s one lucky boy!

Absolutely!
She's got it.

Forever young, brothers and sisters of the 80s 👍🙏
And they’re still brilliant and haven’t lost it 👍❣️❣️
It's a song from many years ago.
I still haven't faded.
This is why good music transcends time. It still rocks so fresh after so many decades. Modern musicians should learn from this. Plus they are so down to earth and not having attitude like so many "so called" divas of the younger generation.
They didn't sing live for years. It was a Stock Aitken Waterman hash/cover. Hardly a great example.

They are still beautiful, still rockin' and the bassist there is playing an awesome bass line indeed.

The "third"lady has been with the other two, recently. For whatever reason(s), she was not at this gig.
Paul Deily because she came back for a reunion tour in 2017 that was it. She’s now back in Shakespeare’s Sister again.

Live Baby ! No playback and they still got it on full power .

Well they are many bakgrund and ore-recorded voice. It is really hard to hear what they are singing live in this perfomece.
"Venus"

Goddess on the mountain top
Burning like a silver flame
The summit of beauty and love
And Venus was her name

Awesome band I do miss them
Com'erano belle le Bananarama. Quanti ricordi. 💓
Absolutely amazing
No playback? Respect.
A teeeeeeeny, tiny bit during part of the chorus, and even then their live vocals can still be heard. Everything else is all them.
And the vocal samples were playback.
There definitely was some backing vocal tracks they sang in top of.
Beautiful girls, good Song!😊
My dumbass sister hasn't talked to me in 5 years cause cause I referred to a grown woman as a girl 😝
