    • @ronrixlante5586
      @ronrixlante5586 Před 2 lety

      @@davidtsoi8614 you shouldn't really necessarily use past perfect continuous because it's just for reference. I mean, you could actually use past continous if you want to, like "we had waited for the bus for an hour, when finally the bus arrived". Also, if i comprehend it completely, emma said, past perfect continuous is not really commonly used in the spoken language, since it's quite formal.

    Just wanna ask, what is the difference between the two sentences below?

    2. She had been working in the garden when it started to rain.

    • @loubana

      I think we have to use “was” when the something is finished and completed, but in this sentence we see that it’s still continuing ( it started to rain )

      hi, I come from 2 years later and try to answer your questions in case you are still wondering. but probably not hehe. and I'm sorry if my grammar not perfect, I'm still learning it.
      the first question means she was in a process doing an activity in the past (which was working in the garden) when suddenly interrupted by another event (which was rain falling)
      the second question means she was doing an activity for some period of time in the past, then she stopped (or not continued her previous activity) and another event happened. so the rain was not interrupted her first activity.
      I got a similar lesson from other teacher about this tenses. I hope I explained it well and not gave a misinformation. If I got it wrong, kindly correct me.
