- Today I’m showing you how the David Austin James Galway climbing roses look after their training last year and a light prune this month. They have made great progress and I think we will have a fabulous display this year.
I hope this has been useful and interesting but do let me know if you have any questions.
It’s difficult to know how to express myself on social media when there is so much sorrow and devastation in the world we live in, particularly in Ukraine. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Ukraine.

Just love the affectionate way you talk about about your roses! They’re indeed stunning! 😊
Thank yo so much. I really do love roses. My sister thinks roses are too much trouble but I don't mind one bit because they bring me so much joy!
Your climbing roses is so beautiful. I can’t wait to see them blooms this summer 🌹🌹🌹
Thanks so much. I will be sure to post a video when they flower. 😁🌹
That's very helpful thank you. I've never grown roses but am purchasing my first climber this month.
Oooh. How exciting for you. Glad I could help.
Thanks for the post. Looking forward to seeing the buds and blooms in a few weeks and the plants to complement at the base. Loved the cat at the end
Thanks Rio. That was Baloo at the end. I can't wait for everything to flower 😃🌸
Lovely
Thanks Alba 💚🌸
It's going to look gorgeous when it blooms...despite the 🛩🤣. I am so looking forward to the roses blooming now. My Desdemona has one almost open now and then will be Alibaba....the rest quickly follow. You're so lucky to have a nice big space to get the canes as vertical as you do 😊
Thanks Netty. Those planes ☹️ are so annoying! I really do love the James Galway - hopefully this will be a bumper year 😁🌹
Thank you for sharing❤ Your “ Girls” are BEAUTIFUL;) I grow many of the same roses you do. What zone are you in if you don’t mind me asking. Kristine
Thank you. We live in South Buckinghamshire UK - equivalent to US Zone 8b.
How are you securing it to the brick wall?
We have a wire trellis that we installed a while back so I'm just tying it to the wore with garden twine.
How much sun does it get? I'm looking to see if I can get this for my side yard that is part sun part shade
Hi Shanel, It's on a north facing wall, with a little bit of east) and gets low morning sun until about 10.30am. In the summer, it may get sun a little bit longer but that's all it gets. Hope this helps.
Does Galway repeat well?
I always get a 2nd and third flush but none of them are quite as full as the first one but I pretty much have roses all season long.
