Completely on location in Sri Lanka. At the beginning (and throughout their career) they always said their videos were more like mini movies.
Keep going with them… they’ve been a favorite of mine for decades. Rio, Wild Boys, Planet Earth, Late Bar… all excellent.

As a kid growing up in the 80's I thought Duran Duran were an OK band, but you don't truly appreciate until you're older. Now 50 I can really say Duran Duran is one of the greatest bands of the 80's.

Duran Duran holds the record for getting the first evers Grammy Award for music videos back in 1984, when the category was first introduced. They won two Grammy's for Hungry Like the Wolf and Girls on Film. Crazy big band, then!

They were one of the first bands to really understand the power of the music video. They wanted them to feel like a mini movie.

Each member of Duran Duran were very talented in their specialisation, an absolute powerhouse band of British music in the 80s. They were also Princess Diana's favourite band. The bass guitarist, John Taylor (the one who had an elephant throw water in his face) was one of the biggest heartthrobs at the time, probably the most beautiful, handsome man I've ever seen, and a first rate bass player to boot (he was also alleged to be Diana's favourite member, not surprising). They've just released a new album, celebrating 40 years since their debut.

And that's why Duran Duran were the kings of music videos! Still the most beautiful music video I have ever seen. And yes, Duran Duran are masters of atmospheric music. You need to listen to The Chauffeur! Video is a bit naughty but beautiful experimental atmospheric song! Been a fan of DD music since the 80s...so hard to pick only 3 favorite songs out of 15 studio albums and many b-sides and extra project songs. If you really like "Come Undone" then you might like "Ordinary World" and "What Happens Tomorrow". Two of my faves. Few other favorite songs; "Out of my Mind", "The Man who stole a Leopard", "The Universe Alone", "Planet Earth".

o’honey, Pressure off ,Astronaut, Chains, Girl Panic, All of You, Beautiful Lies, Falling ,Wing.. and on and on

At a time when music videos were cheap gimmicks, Duran Duran brought the art form up to a whole new level. You just didn't see many music videos on this kind of scale. It's no wonder they were such hits on MTV. They really set the bar high for what could be done. And they also came to get a reputation for being globe-trotting pretty boys, so a lot of people didn't take their music seriously.

No Green Screens used in these Duran Duran videos back then. Green Screens were used in film since the 1930s, actually they were called Blue Screens until around the 1970s. Green Screens were more associated to being used by weather forecasters and in newscasts. It wasn't until movies/videos started to move into a digital format from 35mm film gauge that Green Screens became heavily more prevalent in the film/video industry at the start of this century.

This is why I will NEVER understand why they chose to move away from synthesizers in the 90s ..... synth was so boundless in its possibilities and so atmospheric, its simply the best thing that has happened to music .... people seems to move away from the greatest thing ever discovered in music for the sake of just wanting change ... when they had hardly covered a tenth of what synths can do ... its really cool that synth has made a big comeback in recent years through artists like The Weeknd, Doja Cat etc ...
