    working out in the cold . . . is an art in itself.

  • @DopecrawleR69
    @DopecrawleR69 Před 5 lety +26

    Winter training outside is the perfect opportunity for developing and increasing your grip strenght, if you're using thick gloves. It makes your forearms work harder than usual in order to just keep hanging on the bar, for example. And when it's time to take those off, you'll feel much stronger and confident when it comes to hanging/gripping movements.
    Second thing I'd like to mention is that depending on the actual winter itself you might want to schedule your workouts either in a circuit style or split them in a manner that will allow you not to freeze over the course of workout. If during the winter it's -5/-7 celcius degrees outside - that's fine. Where I live temperatures occasionally can go down straight to -25/-30 celcius degrees. Working out for more than 30 minutes during such temperatures could prove to be, well, problematic.
    Last thing is kind of very specific, but maybe someone had the same issue. During really cold weather be careful with breathing and, specifically, with handstanding exercises. To elaborate - whenever I'm doing handstand pushups, bloodflow goes directly to my face and head, which is normal. The problem is when I try to push myself during those exercises, I breath really deep through nose and mouth. And due to the cold exposure and increased blood pressure in blood vessels and capillars inside my sinuses, they often rapture and then I have either bloody snot, or minor nose bleeds. So, in case you have shitty sinuses like I do, you might want to pay attention to handstanding exercises and breathing during those.

    • @previouslyachimp
      @previouslyachimp Před 5 lety +2

      @BeaverLT - Yes, remove layers when you get too warm as sweating in a cold environment can be dangerous. If your clothes become saturated with sweat, their thermal properties diminish significantly, and the evaporation of the sweat can further drop your core temperature (especially if you have depleted your calorie reserves and/or become dehydrated, as all of your cells and bodily processes need good hydration to function properly). An injury is also more likely when areas of the body become cold. I'd advise layered clothing, adding or removing as necessary to maintain a normal temperature, a towel for drying, and some dry clothing to change into or cover yourself with when you've finished training. :)

    • @previouslyachimp
      @previouslyachimp Před 5 lety

    I want to ask you something. All this stuff about "you're only allowed to workout 3 times a week because you need to rest for an entire day between" stuff..
    It doesn't make sense to me.
    My uncle is a scaffolder. He doesn't go to the gym, he doesn't work out. He just.. works. Putting up and taking down scaffolding.
    Every tuesday and thursday he doesn't call up and go "oh sorry boss I need a rest day"? No. He goes to work! EVERYDAY. Putting up and taking down heavy scaffolding, carrying it around above his head, on his shoulders.
    And he is JACKED and RIPPED with huge BICEPS.
    Other examples are builders, bricklayers. Why are they all so jacked and huge when they work EVERYDAY?
    Or dustbin men of the old days before wheelie bins. They were also always huge, carrying those big metal bins everyday over their shoulders.
    They didn't have rest days?? So how did they get so much muscle?
    Since stopping my 3 day a week workout and working out everyday instead I've seen so much more improvements and feel so much better. monday-thurs I work at maybe 75% intensity, then friday & saturday I workout to 100% intensity. Sunday full day of rest, then back to 75% intensity monday-thursday.

    • @RedDeltaProject
      @RedDeltaProject  Před 5 lety +2

      I agree,
      You don't need to rest from working out, you just need to recover from fatigue and the body will adjust to a given workload over time.
      One key point is the variation of workload though. Somedays are easier than others on the job so varying the workload in a daily workout is key.

    • @thescoutpanda
      @thescoutpanda Před 5 lety

      @@RedDeltaProject nice! glad to get your take on it. the whole "only workout 3 times a week thing" just never sat well with me for the reasons I gave. Always confused me. Clearly nobody told those steel workers they're only supposed to go to work 3 times a week or they won't get big and strong xD
      And yeah. I've adopted a high frequency low volume programme. 6 days a week. So on Monday I might do pushups, squats, calf raises, dip bar dips, then tuesday I'll do chinups, leg raises, crunches, and some isometric holds to work on my grip and balance, like just hang onto the pullup bar for as long as i can until failure, then wednesday planks, lunges, burpees, bench dips etc etc etc. Friday & Saturday I'll increase the intensity and add an extra exercise or two on anything I need to work on.
      I feel much happier, healthier and active than when I did a whole bunch of 8-10 different exercises all at once just 3 times a week :)
      Thanks for all your videos by the way! Since other month I've lost so much weight** and I'm no longer ashamed to take my top off.
      **fat, technically I've put on weight strangely according to the scales, but I just don't look fat anymore.

    • @nyanity
      @nyanity Před 3 lety

      Your uncle doesnt carry that weight to failure, otherwise he wouldnt be able to work all day. Instead, he has a low to moderate intensity throughout the whole day and can build a huge amount of volume throughout the week, so of course he will be jacked. Having restdays for muscle groups makes sense if you have a high intensity workout that is supposed to get the muscle to failure
