I've known Furler for a million years, we went to primary school and I was always her hug bug buddy through the days when she was really low, but she is odd to fathom. She hates singing but loves songs. Hates movies but loves creativity. Despises the industry so she sits on the couch and writes hits.
If she had decided to go for it with singular purpose, she would be the biggest selling artist of all time. But then who would have taken care of her puppies.

Sia is in the 1% instantly recognizable voice category occupied by superstars like Adele, Michael Hutchence, Bono, Madonna, Prince, Freddie Murcury etc, you hear them sing a note and you instantly recognise who it is. There are a plethora of "technically sound" vocalists out there, even covering her stuff but most don't have any unique edgy tone so they all sound pretty much the same.

To all of you who are wondering what's currently going on with Sia ('s voice): She suffers with neurological disease, PTSD and a thyroid disease. But most gravely, is that she has ED-Syndrom, an incurable disease. Furthermore there is her intentense vocal style. But she tells her fans and everyone who suffers with any sort of pain to keep going and that they are not alone.
Sia is such a role model and a great singer and songwriter! I heard she is recovering a bit tho.
Everybody, where ever you are: Stay safe! 😊🐧🏳️‍🌈

You forgot another contributing factor. Shes a belter/throat singer with poor technique at end range. She purposely cracks her voice to sing songs. Shes done this for 20 years. Shes grinded her vocal folds away. There is a reason head singers last longer than belters.

Sia revealed that she had been diagnosed with a rare neurological disease called neuralgia, as well as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) - a genetic disorder.
That's why she finds it hard to hit the high notes especially in chandelier, and that's what we see in her last live performance of this song on tik tok.

You could write a dissertation on her voice. IMO she was the strongest and at her peak with “1000 Forms of Fear,” an album which so many people hold deep in their hearts. That album, which was never expected to be a commercial success (she said herself that she only put it out with the intent of it ending her publishing deal so that she could sign an exclusive songwriting deal with EMI), but then the album grew wings (thanks largely in part to the stratospheric success of ‘Chandelier”) and when people got the entire album they realized that EACH song on the record was just as intelligent and mesmerizing as ‘Chandelier’ and the album helped millions of people heal a lot of wounds. Her songwriting is intelligent and warm and fun.
Though something in her voice is changing again. She seems to have taken all the subtle nuances that were so interesting and fresh on “1000 Forms of Fear” and “This Is Acting” and cranked them up to a near annoying decibel. She’s twisting and morphing too many words in her song - almost like she’s becoming a caricature. I blame of her management for some of that. She’s featured on far too many songs with young artists who are looking for the next great “momentary” sound. I wish she would just do more “bareboned” albums like “Fear” that people can just get lost and spend months in

    • @lovers_cult
      @lovers_cult Před 4 lety +10

Actually, her singing style in Breathe Me was analysed in a musical study in a music university in Norway. They explained that Sia uses a lot paralanguage in singing, expressing her emotions in a veridic way. For exemple, if the verses are 'I can't feel my lips' she sings this way, with her lips almost numbed. That's why I love her so much. Imagine expressing with a perfect diction and "technique' this kind of feeling. Like conventional pop singers do. Sia is special and she's not for everyone. And sadly you are right on the last part, i hope she'll find herself again as artist without trying to please all the junk listeners who just want her "high notes' and not her soul.

And for those who say that, because of her vocal technique, this is happening to her voice, look at mariha carey, I heard she had very good vocal technique, another. In Adele's case, she has excellent vocal technique and she injured, I hope it is very good. So I know this happens with the best singers, I just need to digest that this is happening to Sia. As for Sia, her voice has been amazing.... but in 2020 I hear a lot of throat tightness in her voice. She needs to do more warmups to relax her throat. She has said numerous times she rarely warms up before singing, so that's why it keeps happening. She needs to look after her voice a bit more, imo.

    To any vocal experts ..
Are the squeaky / breathy cracks that her voice makes in the chandelier clip something that will cause a problem as the years go by ?
What causes that, and is it a sign of of a potential issue ?
Also if singers like Sia, Mariah , Beyoncé continue to sing into old age is it possible for the voice to remain as good as it it is today or does the voice become damaged after many years of singing so much in such an intricate way .
    Whitney Houston for example
Had a very different voice in the years before she passed but interestingly,
her autopsy revealed that there were no signs of damage to her vocal cords / larynx ( or so I read ? ) so were her vocal changes more due to breath control issues caused by being a smoker perhaps?
    Sorry so many questions 🙈😆

Amy Winehouse refused to sing with Sia back in the day as she thought Sia was just so much better than her. Personally I think they're just different singers and this was very very early in their careers. Amy's voice probably is preferable to me though

Is Sia’s voice damaged? If it does, can she get rid of it?

From that new TikTok of her singing chandelier, do you think her voice will get better? And how long do you think it will take?

Her voice was damaged because she was bullies about her "double chin" and had lipo suction, but it turns out those were neck muscles and she damaged them :(

Well not everyone can be exposed to drugs as much as Amy Winehouse or Whitney. I could also be a decent singer if I "self medicated"

I think that her deseases make certain parts of the body weaker so maybe she needs training more than resting her voice?

But really tho, who are you to judge a world famous professional singer on her vocals? When you can’t even sing yourself according to your somewhat latest video. It’s embarrassing really. I think Sia can be her own vocal coach lol
