    On road course yellows they should back the lap down cars about half a lap so they can pit on the same lap as the lead lap cars and thus shorten the yellow and get back to green quicker. They can catch backup up to the field before the green but pit them on the same lap just a bit later after the lead lap cars are gone.

      @jeffersonkoster5975 i doubt that it'd be too much of a problem if they corrected the field staging issue, and nothave tight first turns. There is a reason why at the Rolex 24 they divide the field in half by class at the green. Because 50-60 cars are going to fit through the chicane at the same time.
      Look at the best and longest lasting and best road courses in the cup schedule (historically riverside, watkins glen, and sonoma), all of them have their first few turns be gradual turns that allow drivers to shuffle for breathing room before any chokepoints.
      IMSA had a bunch of goodraces that were still close even with abuse of track limits such as COTA. They did end up implementing ruled against it, but that was for safety reasons since most of their tracks are legacy roadcourses and not tilke style f1 race courses

      Yeah but would nascar get rid of stages altogether for just road courses, or just road courses and restrictor plate tracks? I don’t think so. I think nascar is in a position where each race has stage points, otherwise it devalues certain races to a certain extent, being able to gain more points at different tracks. So I think they’d have to get rid of stages and stage cautions altogether. I really like where nascar is right now, where we have stages but no cautions on the road courses. I think the problem lies more with the new cars, and the various issues they’ve encountered with it, whether it’s horsepower or aero or the fact they’re all the same and nobody really has an edge anymore. NASCAR isn’t far from being about the same as the Australian super cars where everyone is driving the exact same spec cars and just riding around because you can’t pass. BUT they’ve tried doing a good job keeping the attention of fans, as well as giving the drivers more motivation to get up front and stay up front the whole race, etc. by adding the stages and stage points. But a couple years ago we had some decent road course racing, but that was before this new car. So to me it’s not the stages, it’s more of the car, but I definitely understand where you’re coming from and appreciate your opinion. Definitely be interesting to see what they try to improve the races, and the race cars!

    One of the best things about no fake yellows is stage points tend to be earned by those that deserve it. Not someone riding around 15th or so staying out to steal it. Make the cars harder to drive(racing aside, Xfinity cars look more fun & looks like more talent is needed to wheel it). I miss the longer braking zones, wheel hop & other stuff. Better tires would be nice, but if they can barely pass a lot slower cars, aero will still stall everyone on worn tires with a car where mistakes don’t hurt you much.

      Easy fix: You can not pit within 25-30 laps before a stage caution comes out on a short track. 20-30 laps on a mile and a half or bigger. If you do pit because of an issue or whatever reason, then it's mandatory that you are inelegable for stage points for that stage, and you start at the tail end of the line on the restart. You can keep road courses like they are with stage racing.

      I wonder if going to a setup where multiple tire compounds would change anything honestly. Having two or three compounds and forcing teams to run at least two of them would open up the strategy some and also lead to passing. In F1 that is about where the only excitement comes from in races, so in a spec series with less dirty air than F1 having additional compounds might open things up without having to add HP which they seem set against entirely.

    @Legend13CNS Před 11 měsíci +2

    I say this as a former Legends driver and an avid iRacer, 3k+ on both oval and road, mainly NASCAR, GT3, and LMP2. Making the cars harder to drive doesn't improve racing past a certain point. If they say it's hard to drive but the top guys are just following each other around, that can mean it's too hard to drive for good racing and guys are just hanging on to it. From an iRacing side the Next Gen on road courses, GT3, and LMP2 are all like that. Fast setups are extremely sensitive, there's no hustling a car for the extra tenth when you're trying to catch a guy, just maximizing what the setup will give you and not sliding the tires. We can argue sim vs real life differences, but it doesn't matter as much as illustrating the point. Even in iRacing esports events there's not really comers and goers on pace alone, unless someone qualifies really poorly compared to their true pace.

      That has zero to do with the road course issue. It would actually make it worse. Sonoma and Watkins have no passing issues, especially with cars that are the exact opposite of what you prescribe.
      This is 100% focused on the things like the roval and chicago. Which have the same issue, that first corner. IMSA will be going back to Indy next year and we'll see the same issue again.
      The only roval that does it right in my opinion is the Daytona Roval, because that has a long area of deceleration (with a place to even let off the throttle), and a run off before the tight merger. That gives time for drivers to see the pack shifting and make choices or bail out.
      If you are saying they need more power and/or less grip, you are asking for a bunch of drivers (who would school us) to turn the start of every green into a forza online match.

I've been going to the Glen for the last 7 races and 3 others before that. That had to be the most BOREING race!!!!! I think in 2005 they took the sand trap out of Turn #1 and paved it. (never liked that); but still had some good racing. Then a few years back they added the "turtles", that really changed how turn #1 was raced. I think they need to do something to make it a deterrent to run that turn where they would have been in the middle of the "sand trap". I say this because I have been watching the races at the "Esses" going up the hill for years. That is supposed to be a tight turn. Put some more Horsepower back in the car, too.

There was minimal tire fall off so it was high risk with zero reward. Elliott running out of gas, Larson speeding and Bowman having to pit when it was closed in a 5 minute span was an epic fail sequence for HMS.

    I think part of the issue at WGI is that the Cup version of the track is not REALLY a road course. It drives more like a superspeedway. There are no technical sections, and no real slow corners. Just 3 braking zones, only one of which (Turn 1) is heavy braking, and a lot of wide open throttle. So it's basically a single-groove superspeedway. As long as you don't make a HUGE mistake, nobody will be able to pass you. Enforcing track limits would help A LOT. Right now if you make a fairly big mistake in Turn 1 or Turn 5, who cares? You can just drive half a mile off the track and keep your foot flat on the floor rather than having to lift to stay on the track and keep from crashing. Driving the boot would also help since there are a couple slower corners there, and some of them don't have runoff so mistakes actually hurt your speed. There's nothing wrong with the car, it's just that if you make the track this easy, these teams and drivers are all pretty evenly matched so there is not going to be much passing. Why would we expect anything other than the fastest cars in qualifying to gradually walk away, and the slowest cars in qualifying to gradually fall behind? There's no reason to think there'd be a ton of mixing it up if everybody is running quali laps all race. Enforce track limits, or put worse tires on the cars, or add more difficult corners.

    I hate to say it, but for road course races NASCAR may need to adopt a method used in Formula One and even in IndyCar: offer different tire compounds for races.
    F1 offers three different dry tires (soft, medium, hard) that play a big role in the team's strategy during the race. If NASCAR and Goodyear developed 2-3 different compounds to use for race day, along with maybe increasing the horsepower limit on road courses, then I think the overall racing product would be way better.

Man no one cares about individual mini races or mini points events. NASCAR has made what seems like multiple mini games out of each race like it’s a cellphone game or something. Let these boys race and if people’s cars are sucking, let the teams and the drivers suck! Why are we buoying these drivers that don’t stand a chance at the front.

    Another issue I don't hear anyone talk about is the all the data sharing and access. Get rid of all of that. No more SMT data. You should not be able to look at my inputs so that you can copy them. You should have to figure it out.
    Test each type of track before the season and gather the data. Then that's all the teams get. No more data for the rest of the sesson. They just have to figure it out on their own.
    Limit sim time too. Each team gets 3 hours per week and that's it.

    • @JHoselton83
      @JHoselton83 Před 11 měsíci +1

      Exactly! What in the hell prompted NASCAR to implement the SMT data sharing in the first place? You literally have spotters coaching the driver in real-time to drive in such a way that they were not talented enough to figure out on their own. Any gains that the more talented driver had made due to their personal skill set are immediately neutralized. Gee… I wonder why there isn’t more passing going on. SMH. Between SMT, and the current sports car imposter of a stock car, NASCAR has completely ruined the Cup Series. The Xfinity race on Saturday was 10x more entertaining, even though one car basically dominated that race too. At least there was the possibility of someone getting to the bumper of the leader without dirty air creating an invisible force field to stall them out. Frustrating to watch that happen week after week with the exception of intermediates.

      I still hold out hope that NASCAR will fold under the pressure and make some aggressive changes to the aero and add horsepower. I don't see them going above 750, but maybe if the owners listen to the driver's input, they'll come around too.
      The drivers do not like this car, but only a few will say it, while the others only allude to it. They all need to speak up more. They want to be able to race and the fans want to see it!
      Great product equals great return. I don't understand what's so hard about that.

    I don’t know man. The road courses this year on the cup side, have been pretty boring. I think eliminating stage breaks on road courses have taken away from the excitement in these races. Can’t throw packages at the car, but I think more tire fall off could help. People hate the stage breaks but 1 caution in a 90 lap road course race spreads them out and we get what we’ve seen on road courses this year. At least the stage breaks create strategy and opportunity. I do not entirely agree that the stages are won by those who deserve it with no caution. The breaks create hard choices that have to made. If you want better racing on a road courses, you either need a road course that suits the strengths of car, or change the car to suit the circuit. For a circuit like Indy, why not run a half oval/half road course layout? Instead of wrapping around the museum and then into the infield of oval turn 1, go onto the back stretch and run backwards through oval turns 2 and 1, and down the front stretch to turn one and let them open the cars up. Indy is the exception not the rule on layout, but maybe try tweaking road course layouts to better suit the cars. Obviously you can't make a drastic change to the car like IndyCar swapping front and rear wings, but there's got to be some changes you can make. Maybe more horsepower? Maybe winglets/an aeropackage? Maybe a "push-to-pass" button like IndyCar has that would help them attack/defend/accelerate out of the corners?
