It stays in the wood because of adhesion, not surface tension.
Adhesion is when two surfaces of different materials like to cling together, like dew droplets hanging from leaves.
Surface tension is when the surface of a material is held together more strongly than that of the inside.
Water adhesion is cool indeed :) 2 pans sticking together after washing and it's kinda difficult to pull them apart unless you drag one of them away
But isn't adhesion too a concept of surface tension ?
@@PoonamSingh-jm3rk I don't think so, but they are driven by the same intermolecular forces.
Surface tension = More difficulty with breaking through the surface of a liquid then is required to go through it when fully submerged. Makes it so droplets form.
Adhesion = A liquid sticking to a solid or another liquid.
Both can be seen by pouring water in a glass. Fill it below the rim and you'll see the water surface isn't even but sticks out at the edges. This is because the glass attracts the water. Pour it over the rim and you'll be able to flow it higher than the rim without it spilling. This is surface tension and a very closely related concept, cohesion, which is liquid wanting to stick to itself.
Interestingly, mercury poured in a glass will not have higher edges but a higher center. This is because it has stronger cohesion than adhesion.
@@PoonamSingh-jm3rk they are caused by the same property of water, which is that water has high polarity and therefore will stick to many different substances, but the nuances are a little different. adhesion is when water molecules stick to other things (for example, water droplets on a window), but surface tension is a caused by cohesion, which is when water molecules stick to other water molecules, which causes a sort of layer of resistance at the surface of a liquid.

This guy is surprisingly highly motivated in making this unmotivated wood.
yeah its the best mistranslation ever
@@six-winged-juni is it mistranslation?
(Yaruki no nai mokuzai), shortened into やる木 (YaruKi because Moku 木 can also be read Ki), indeed means unmotivated wood
He even takes baths with them lmao
Maybe he's Vergil from Devil May Cry.

I love your work with YARUKI. That said, this is "just" a minisponge. YARUKI must do what no one else can. YARUKI must keep searching.
Rurouni YARUKI
If you use a food safe wood and a food safe glue you could in theory make little cups out of the yaruki. Glue a shim to the back, and sides, so it can't expand. Boom, cup that holds liquid when sideways. Don't gotta worry about spills as much!
Not fun to clean in between uses, though.
I’d suggest wrapping veneer around the outside
is wood not "food safe"?
@@Iemonic most wood is but I wouldn’t recommend eating it. It leaves splinters in your throat for days
@@quakxy_dukx i dont plan on eating wood
YARUKI’s weight cannot be measured🤣🤣
That was fun!!
If it can trap water moisture from air then it is pretty usefull in places with shortage of water
You could use apple wood and use it to store sake. I bet it will have a great flavour after a couple days!!
