Gary proved over and over that he was not the businessman J.R. and Bobby were. Easily manipulated and prone to making stupid decisions(i.e., blowing up Empire Valley, being the sole investor in Tidal Energy). Good decision on Jock's part not to have him in the running of Ewing Oil.
Miss Ellie didn't give Gary Jock power to run anything she favored him without running the Ewing oil business they kept their relationship separate from that.

Abby was the best and most entertaining to watch out of all the nighttime soap villianesses. She was so wickedly good at being bad.
