I think what would make more sense for Sentinel to kill Ironhide is what was shown in the killing of Ironhide itself.
Look how many times he had to shoot Ironhide, says it all. Out of all of Optimus Primes soilders, Ironhide was the strongest of them all aside from Optimus. You can go back to ROTF. Ironhide after the rescue mission of Sam and Mikeala, he took extensive damage to the chest and was still very functional. Meaning, Ironhide is still a force to be reckoned with even when he has endured massive battle damage. He would pose the most significant threat to Sentinel even in a one on one duel. Not only is he heavily armored he is also heavily armed. He is the most battle experienced of the group including Optimus Prime.
Now, remember, Sentinel attacked Ironhide from behind. He knew that was the most logical way to do it. It was strategic, deliberate, and effective. How effective? Well, the proof was the fact that the other Autobots did not retaliate but Bumblebee. And the only reason Bumblebee returned fire is because he was being fired upon. But, he was in evade and escape mode in full retreat. To counter the theory:
Sentinel Prime had no need to convince Megatron of anything. Their deal was made on Cybertron, not Earth. That deal predates humanity itself during the War of Cybertron. 60 million years ago according to lure. "We knew we were never going to win the war.....so a deal had to be made....with, Megatron!" Then go back to what, Megatron said to Starscream, in Washington while sitting upon the seat of Lincoln. Ironhide was killed because of his toughness, battle experience and strength. Not as a show of trust. Besides, Sentinel had more control over the Decepticons than Megatron in DOTM.

I agree. Optimus did avenge Ironhide. But what many never recognized is that Optimus did Sentinel in the same manner as Sentinel did Ironhide. While he was defenseless and unable to defend himself. "NOOOOOO, OPTIMUS!!"
He killed Ironhide cause he knew if he killed any other autobot ironhide would attack him in rage. Ironhide is one of the strongest autobots in the franchise, so strong he could potentially severely damage if not k*ll sentinel so he shot him. Also sentinel shoots Ironhide quickly and from the back and also kicked Ironhide's weapon away. Sentinel (being a prime) was afraid of ironhide's might and firepower. RIP ironhide. You will be missed.
He killed him because he knew ironhide would be able to kill most of the bad guys fast and most of them were afraid of ironhide and remember Optimus Prime said that ironhide is a weapon specialist. Sentinel was so afraid of ironhide.
But Megatron wasn't there himself to proof this, so I think they sent Laserbeak to observe the situation and Laserbeak then told it Megatron. What do you think about my addition to your theorie? I think it makes sense.
Even though he betrayed he showed that he still hated to work with Decepticons they destroyed his home

Iron hide should make an appearance in the new rebooted series of transformers since arcee already made an appearance again so I hope ironhide will do the same

Enough interesting and true theory, at least it is the first reason, but there is also another reason and variant: Sentinel exactly knew that Ironhide is not less dangerous warrior than Optimus, after all Ironhide after Prime the second strongest Autobot and traitor also understood, he will be a problem for his plan and so he decided to kill him immediatly and in addition he used exactly such the dangerous weapon like "Rust Gun" to liqudiate.

even though Megatron is happy for Sentinel to not trick Megatron. Sentinel still wanted to rule the world by himself so he attacked Megatron saying both are working together and not for each other

So One question. In Dark of the Moon berserker was killed by Ironhide. But in the Last Night he came back but in prison. Is there a Reason why the Decepticons that where killed were brought to life there were clones of them?

Or maybe he killed ironhide because he is one of the bulkiest member, I mean even with the power of the rust gun, it took more than one hit to kill him. And plus maybe because he is there weapon specialist. Who knows
I think it was more strategic. We see how quickly Sentinel folded to heavy firepower when megatron ambushed him in the fight with optimus using his shot gun. 3 buckshots, a couple swings and his armor crumbled. I think tactically he feared if Optimus and ironhide were to team up on him how quickly Ironhides specialty could exploit his weakness. So he eliminated it. I like your theory of proving himself to megatron but sinply from a tactical standpoint it was a no brainer.

Sentinel would been great hero and teacher figure to Optimus and us if he didn't kill Ironhide i started to like him before he killed Ironhide imo he shouldn't have done that and trying to tell Ironhide Optimus doesn't care for our planet he cares for humans and you hate humans as i do so Ironhide felt for it and trying to tell Optimus about this while hey fight each Optimus reason with Ironhide and Ironhide release his mistake Optimus goes aftee Sentinel and tell him Megatron only cares to rule our planet it will get destroyed once it was rebuild with another civil war Sentinel joins Optimus side and help Optimus against Megatron that would been way better ending

wrong, when sentinel ressurected , he immediately look for the pillar and ask optimus where are the pillar? and shock that they onle have 5 , he knows he has it before he's stasis and immediately realize that decepticon is involve...and knowing optimus is doing nothing to save cybertron he have to make a deal with megatron..megatron is not reaally as bad as we think hes goal is to rebuild there planet..back to the main topic. he know that it is difficult to defeat optimus with ironhide beside him..just look at the duo on the opening seen of rotf
