@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 Hey men. I like good quality top end but most of all i like slightly warm full body midrange. What would be your types: Marantz PM 8006, Denon PMA1600(or older mordels), Audiolab 6000a (7000a too analitical?). 6000a is the cheapest and was my choice but I'm affraid that it will loose soundstage depth when compared to others. I like i little bit of layering on soundstage. Thanks!

Having only experience with budget a/b, class D and tube amps, I really didn't know what soundstage was until listening to this amp. Excellent review as usual Tee-Jay! After going through a 2 year journey looking for an amp (yes, paralysis through analysis 😀) I finally purchased this about 3 months ago. It's a super impressive amp and your description of the sound (which is darned difficult to do) was absolutely accurate. I have it paired with Elac FS 207 Anniversary Edition towers and Reference 3A MM bookshelf speakers in another room. The Elacs have never sounded better. The ribbon tweeter detail shines without venturing into any harshness/crispyness and the tight bass characteristics of the Elacs is actually improved by the warmer bass amp characteristics. Brilliant pairing. The Reference 3A's (which are neutral sounding) are detailed, and lush. A slightly warmer presentation which is perfect for the environment. Amazing as well- albeit different. In both cases the soundstage/imaging is crazy good- stunning! I connected my old Dual 510 turntable which hadn't be used in 23 years, and outfitted my vintage (aka "old") Shure V15 IV cartridge with a new Jico made in Japan stylus and the results were beyond anything I could have imagined. My Japanese and UK imports of Beatles, Pink Floyd, Stones, etc. which I've kept in pristine condition absolutely blew my mind. It revealed nuances in the music that I've never heard before and I listen quite critically all of the time. I know many of your readers have better/newer equipment than mine and while YRMV- my records clearly sound better than ever and superior to CD's and I have a decent 6007 Marantz CD player. Heck, even my BluOs streamer (wi-fi) sounds good with the Marantz. I couldn't be happier and once again Tee-Jay thank you again for your expert review which helped me make this decision - finally!

Great review. I just bought one today brand new from Audio Classics here in Binghamton N.Y. for $1199. I'm hooking it up tomorrow and giving it a test run. The thing is HEAVY and built like a tank. Also bought a Marantz CD6007 to go with it. They only had one of each in stock and they just came in yesterday so I guess I got there first. I keep hearing about 'V' shaped sound signature which has me a bit concerned about listening fatigue but i'll experiment with the digital filters and try a couple different sets of speakers and i'll get back with my overall impressions.

Stumbled upon your review lokking for this model. Great in depth review for sure. So congrats. Reason I was looking for reviews about this amp is because I want an alternative to check out apart from the Yamaha AS1200. I own an AS501 and recently I upgraded my turntable to a Rega P3 along with an external phono amp by Rega and got me some new towers from JBL , the A190 which i really love. So eventuallly I started to look for what else is out there in terms of an amp and the Marantz got me thinking of it. II'm gonna audition it if I can. But I would love your hunch about how the JBL's will pair with the Marantz. If you have one please share!

Tee Jay -- love it when you go under the hood, sir! I have an additional question and am wondering about your thoughts about using the "Power Amp Direct" mode on the Marantz. I am running an RME ADI-2 DAC, which does a nice job as a linestage given it has an attenuator. My 8006 is driving Harbeth SHL5 Plus XDs. I also upgraded the power cable with a DIY Furutech AC cable and ends, which took this amp up a notch -- all for around $150. IMHO, however, my biggest improvement came from cutting out the preamp inside the 8006 using the amp direct mode. With the RME acting as a single source pre-amp, I hear a big improvement in SQ in power direct. Much more open, dynamic, grippier, etc. As you didn't speak directly to this feature on the amp, which I think is a "sleeper" feature, I am keen to hear about your thoughts and experience? Cheers,

Our opinions differ though. I find the pm8005 to be lacking in the base area and a little too forward in the upper mids, even fatiguing/screechy at times. Now I'm also considering the Marantz MM7025 (even though it been around a long time). But after watching this review, this may be the better choice for my KLH Kendall floor standers (nice power for low level listening and enough grit for my concert DVDs). Accessories for less has it for $899. I am leaning towards the 140 watt 2 channel Marantz MM7025, but the PM8006 may be the better choice in the end. Any thoughts?

I owned this amp for a long time. Your review was dead accurate, I am IMPRESSED. Great imaging, robust bass, V shaped sound, recessed in the upper mid/lower treble, sparkle/tilt in the very very high end of treble, smooth/sweet overall sound. I ended up moving on because my speakers are warm and I got tired of warm + warm = overly smooth. Source Direct did not solve the problem. I never got to try this amp with my old Tekton speakers but I imagine that would be a great pairing since they are forward in the 4khz range.

Let me ask you a question about your marantz amp. I picked one of these up a couple of months ago and I love the sound of it especially the phono stage and I noticed when I'm using it and changing the volume with the remote all the blue indicator lights on the front of the unit dim slightly. Now it doesn't happen when I just turn the volume knob but it does happen when I use the remote and the motorized potentiometer kicks in. Of course I asked marantz about it and they said that it was normal they even went so far as to tell me that they had a unit in the office and it did the same thing. I've asked a couple other people and haven't really gotten a response from them so I thought I'd ask you. Thanks for your help

I got ya ! Here's whats really going on. The actual Motor of the volume control thats engaged with Remote Use only is actually tide into the same 'circuit' that powers the display lights , so when you use the Remote volume control basically the electronic motor is borrowing power from the +/- 14 volts - reason for the dimming is because their using the same Power supply . Marantz done this to keep feedback from getting into the Pre gain stage signal giving you less noise 😃 Hope this helped

I think Marantz is a great brand producing quality, good value for money products but I also love Denon. I am a proud owner of the Denon pma 800ne, a budget amp from a few years back, which I think has it over the Marantz equivalent pm6007. The 8300xp was the cleanest most uncolored amp i ever spent time with very well balanced very good where the Marantz does have a V curve boosted bass/treble and the Marantz is an imaging Monster and the 8006 is on
the warm side of neutral whereas the 8300xp the audiolab is just more percise and dynamic , When i had my Burson audio Preamp hooked up to the Audiolab I could not believe the precision of clarity instrument seperation with the combo was on 🔥 .
Even though the 8300xp is a little bit more mature and cleaner sounding than the Marantz .
Marantz still holds it own powerful little integrated amp for sure .

@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 i have now the audiolab 8300a and bought right now an marantz pm 8006.
Next week or so i can say how they compare. For my taste the audiolab 8300a is a precise but dry amplifier. It has very good resolution without coloration and fit well with warmer speakers. I had a audiolab 6000a too and the signature of the sound is almost the same but i think the 8300 plays a little bit more with ease and has little bit more body and calm. The most area where you notified a difference is that the base region on the 8300 is little bit fuller and gripier. It is a good amp if you want really neutral sound and thighten the sound allaround.
Thats why i want to check up the marantz. I had the marantz 6007 and compared to audiolab 6000a and 8300a it lacked precision and resolution. But it was fuller and less fatigue sound. So with the pm8006 i hope to get the fullness of the pm6007 with precision of audiolab gear.

And can drive up to 45-amps of power
For dynamic peaks and keep up with complex bass passages.
Your 7000 can only draw up to 15-amps
Its not how many watts that matters but the quality Of them watts that matter the 8006 has more flesh n body to the sound and much stronger bass impact even at lower volumes.
Easier said the PM 8006 has more torque power, watts to me is the biggest lie in Audio I have 50 watt amps that sound louder and better than my 100 watt amps i have owned .

So now i can tell the comparison between audiolab 8300a and marantz pm 8006.
With audiolab 8300a you can hear more in the music and the little details and texture. 8300a is more neutral and has more calm.
Marantz is a little more dynamic, bright and more oomph. But has not good resolution in comparison. I think the marantz is too overmotivated.
For flat sounding or not so good speakers i would chose for marantz becaus it will kick the speakers to „make music“
But if you have very good speakers and you need resolution and texture or dont need the v curve i would chose 8300a

8006 has subwoofer outputs also and a much much bigger power supply of 625va also the 8006 you can hook up 2 different sets of speakers and 8006 had 3 tone controls Bass midrange treble l , The 8006 has a much more heftier sound more weight and better bass control than 7000N and 8006 is built in Japan .
      Basically its convenence vs Performace
Theirs no digital built into the 8006 its pure analog for a quiter noise floor
