The Once Beautiful House On The Hill - 10050 Cielo Drive

  • The house on Cielo Drive has fascinated me for years. I got my first glance at the house when living in California in 1969. The house and the tragedy that happened in August of 1969 has haunted me for years. This once beautiful house and all of its history are now locked in time for us to remember. I started photographing the house in 1975 and have taken many pictures of it over the years.

When Sharon Tate and the other victims died here in the house and on the property they were not the only victims but the house itself and the property died and was a victim also that horrible night in 1969. Since everyone that rented the house never seemed to stay very long and the house and property had a bad reputation and was always associated with the terrible tragedy that occurred there in 1969. So in many ways you could say that the house and it's property died and was a victim that night since people viewed the house as mostly a tragic murder site. I'm glad that we do still have photographs and some video footage of the original house and property since these are the only things that are keeping the memories of the original house and property at the former 10050 Cielo house alive. The same as the photos and videos of Sharon Tate are keeping her memory alive but I wish there were more than very few photos of Abigail Folger, Voyteck Frykowski, Jay Sebring and Steven Parent still around since there are very few of them.

A newly built house that she was the first to live in, and no other structure had been there before. She only lived there a couple of years before returning to France. When she heard about the murders, she wondered if what she was feeling when she lived there was a premonition of the horrible, evil tragedy that would occur there over twenty years later.

I always say that Sharon's true love house was Patty Duke's house on Summeridge Drive, not Cielo. The child she was carrying was conceived there. They planned to buy it from the Dukes but the deal fell through late in 68. So Sharon rented Cielo but was very disappointed that the Duke house fell through. She was at Cielo from Feb- March 69, then July 19 - August 8. Yes, she was longing for the child she would have. But it was still a rental property. The Duke house was her real love house. There's too much baloney about Cielo being her love house. She was hardly there, and Polanski even less. Real history on this case, a case immersed in myth.
Truth is, if anyone's, it was Folger and her Polish boyfriend's 'love' house. They spent their time there, hosting their low life friends, like Manson's morons, who killed Sharon, though they had a place in Laurel Canyon, they liked Cielo -- and the rest is horrible history.

    • @ilovemickyandhelove1

They never met any of the manson family, it was terry melcher and Candice Bergen who had lived in the house before Sharon moved in, and the only member of the manson family that set foot inside the house when they lived there was Tex Watson .

Not Sharon and Polanski but Folger, Frykowski and Sebring is another matter as there were drug connections. But certainly Manson knew the property and there is commentary that his morons swam in the pool. It's mirky as it all of this crooked case, thanks to the US justice system. And I would not believe the official story about what was said when they burst into that house on 8.8.69, as it was the story of a corrupt prosecutor and lying Killers who changed their story to fit his, and never tell the same story twice due to their lying.

what they did to this property is horrendous. that new structure should be torn down. it ruined the aesthetics of benedict canyon.

That gargantuan monstrosity that has replaced this lovely house is everything that is wrong with Los Angeles architecture in the last thirty years; gaudy; pretentious and not respectful of the architectural environment in which it exists nor of the history of Benedict Canyon

I don't think that beautiful home should've been destroyed because of the horrible tragedy and replaced with a monstrosity of another house. I hate what happened to precious Sharon and her friends and the home she loved could've been some lovely memories for those who lived there after her tragic demise. 🩷
