Dony once again shows us how to make this type of repair and save a ton of money! He identifies that "Nevr-Seize" as his friend, and I wholeheartedly agree. You can't beat Nevr-Seize. By the looks of that existing shaft, it was dry and barely had any grease. That grease fitting is a clue that it needs periodic greasing. Excellent video!!!

When I bought my Gravelly commercial zero turn in the book it said to raise the throttle over half way and then engage the PTO. So after moving from Florida to Missouri the dealer told me to get the throttle wide open and then turn on the PTO. I got barb wire caught up in the blades and soon developed vibration. I took it to the dealer in Missouri and as soon as he started the mower on my trailer he said he knew exactly what the problem was. It was the keyway on the crankshaft. He could fix it 2 ways. One would be to remove the engine and replace the crankshaft or he can make an adapter to fix it but he said as soon as it is started run it full throttle and never even drive it in lower speeds. So far so good

I guess the other spindle and the idler pulleys were good, maybe replaced before you got it. Wish I had a torch like that, though I haven't needed one yet. Guess I'd try MAPP first because it's cheaper as I likely wouldn't need it much. Thank you, Don. Another great one.

The Oxy-Acet is hotter than the alternatives you mentioned for sure...and easier to light in windy conditions than the Oxy-Propane or Oxy-MAPP. A MAPP 'plumber's' torch lights easy but doesn't have as much heat.
Nice repair video with lots of detail. I put Loctite 243 on the spindle bolts on my ride-on because it not only locks the nuts on but helps prevent the nut rusting to the bolt in case I have to remove it at some time. (hopefully not but hey 'stuff' happens)
    Cheers from NB

I usually just put a crowbar under the pulley, put upwards pressure on it, and whack the shaft with a sledgehammer. I've had more luck doing that than I ever have with a puller. Some people worry about causing damage, but it doesn't matter if you are replacing the spindle anyway, and I can usually do it without damaging the pulley.

And with one that bad, I assume you checked the other spindles to ensure they're not on their way out, yes?
Lastly, not sure about in Canada, but you can't buy MAPP gas here in the US any more (not exactly sure why), they now have MAP-PRO, which isn't any hotter than propane as MAPP was, but charge more than propane... :)
