What a lovely 41 minutes. Thank you, from a beekeeper.
A lovely film about beekeeping in Aberdeenshire. Maxim was so easy to work with and I look forward to working with him again very soon.
'if you live with nature, this all happens...and it's the same with my bees' Sandy Gordon.
‘and it’s the same with my bees’
@@gappo1301 such a great quote...I hope to be half that wise if I get anywhere close to how old he is...thank you so much for sharing this video with us. I enjoyed it a lot.
A lovely heartwarming film. Really enjoyed the historic insights from Sandy!
Thank you! Just speaking with this man brings joy to you. And so is filming and editing of his lines.
Mr Gordon is a legend. Hope I can be as cool you one day.
Their all heroes to me
Thanks Danny McGhee for this insight - we had a Scottish beekeeper speak to our discussion group.
Both he and the talk were very well received.
A lovely look at different landscape and different hives.
Love this film. I started beekeeping last summer and am obsessed. I have challenges myself as I’m in a wheelchair but have managed to learn ways to look after my ladies. Great work 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Sweet movie 🐝🐝🐝 Reminds me of my grandpa who was a beekeeper of many years
🥰🥰🥰😍
Lovely Aberdeen. ..only to be spoiled by those damnable wind turbines...a blight upon the face of the Earth.
The whole countryside is now covered with this monstrosity.
Lovely video great advice
Thank you JJ.
Great Show. Learning film🚧 👏🎥 🌎Bee keeping in Northern California
What a joy to watch. The landscape, these fascinating people, their work, the bees... All beautiful. Thank you very much for this. ☀️
Thank you for the beautiful documentary! I have my first hive in Michigan USA and am anxiously awaiting to see them this Spring when it warms up. Everyone in this video deserves the highest praise for their dedication to nature and help to sustain and care for the honeybees!! 🐝💕
Thank you for your comment Angie. We will have more beekeeping content coming in summer, so stay connected and good luck with your first hive (it can turn into two hives very soon;)
This film is so gorgeous! Just what I needed to see mid-winter to get me excited for spring. Thank you from Maine, USA.
Thank you for your comment! There are several North American CZcams channels on bees that became a source of knowledge and inspiration in making this film.
I found this sensitive and beautifully visualised documentary very uplifting.
Beautifully made. My Great Grandparents were born in Aberdeen & migrated to Australia. A pleasure to watch.
Appreciate that Glenn and hello to Australia!
My wife and I are small time cottage industry beekeepers and we thoroughly enjoyed the great presentation of beekeeping in Scotland.
It was particularly interesting to learn of the various common techniques and then some diverse ones as well.
Here on the space coast of Florida we have a well kept secret of how great our Brazilian Pepperberry honey is from an invasive species plant! Thanks for this very enjoyable documentary!
Really appreciate your feedback and there will be more beekeeping content on this channel in 2021.
Fantastic! Thank you!
It’s a pleasure Michael. Thanks, Maxim.
Don’t try to make the bees do what you want them to do. You do what the bees want you to do. Beautiful words from a lovely man.
Interesting to see how bees are kept in other parts of the world. Mostly the same all over. Controlling varroa is the key now days. You must stay on top of them and if you don’t treat you won’t have bees long.
Not true
Johnny Corcoran
Lol
Don't have to Treat unnecessarily if ....
You do good breeding from your best Stock. And do lots of Brood Breaks. Monitor your Hives regularly, and do an intervention if VM becomes a problem. I use Artificial Swarms (Brood Break). Sugar Dusting, (checks without killing bees) and if VM is their follow up with an
Alcohol Wash (necessary % of Bees have to be sacrificed to get a true reading.) Only a Cups worth (!) Then use Oxalic Acid at low Brood times, and Thymol when / after the Honey is removed.
[ I take a small amount for my own use, Bees have the majority of it to help them get through our Scottish Winters.]
And, I start my Bee year in August ! Bees created by then are next years Honey makers... 😏
That's the Key to keeping VM at bay !
Hope to be an Ode Beek one day (!) 😎
Happy Beekeeping 2022.

Thank you so much! I feel like watching it again and again, it is just wonderful! Greetings from beekeeper in Czech. :-)
Wow, what an document. Truly amazing! Thank you
Many thanks. There will be a new bee-related film coming out on this channel by the end of 2022.
@@gappo1301 don't thank us, we all thank you. This was pure gold!
Enjoyed the film very much, can't wait to open the bees in spring 🐝
Thanks for your comment Steven. These three months or so will fly, and you’ll reunite with your bees in no time👍🏻 Cheers, Maxim.
Absolutely beautiful, brilliant, I’ve watched all beekeeping films on CZcams from all round the globe, this one is fantastic, and makes me want to come to Scotland to see you all,🐝🐝🐝
Thank you Luciano! You are always welcome to this part of the world:)
@@gappo1301 thank you, hope covid 19 disappears,so we can move again, all the best to Aberdeen beekeepers 🐝🐝🐝
Thank you for interesting film. Best beekeeing wishes!
Виктор, спасибо! Максим.
Beautiful work and pacing
Thanks for your comment Dan. Pacing was really important in this one, did spend some time on that. Cheers, Maxim.
Absolutely delightful!
Mooi hoor👍

".. and I don't think there's as much Varroa about these days as there was originally". Quite an interesting observation! The bees might somewhat have adapted to the mite loads and viruses, making beekeeping a viable hobby for many these days. Great documentary! 😀👍 Would be interesting to see what harvested heather honey looked like.
Sleepy...
It's Reddish in colour and has a jelly like state to it.(A bit like OSR (Canola) Honey, it needs to be extracted in a special way. As one of the film commentators stated.
Hope this helps. 😏

lovely
Thank you Simon.
Love this
Thank you Jennifer!
This was such a treat to watch such a remarkable film. Thank you. It moved me because I'm Scottish, yet have not been back for such a long time. The country side and flowers and meadows took my breath away. Thank you so much for all the inspiration.
I do have one question if you don't mind. Its about treatments for varroa. I too don't agree with using any kind of poison in my hive. Do you mind sharing what tricks you have for treating them. Grateful Brad
Thank you for you comment Brad and it’s an honour to be able to slightly reconnect people with their homeland through the documentary. I can’t comment on varroa though, since I’m not a beekeeper myself. I think even Sandy in the film has admitted he has to treat his bees once a year, and as someone commented here - monitoring throughout the year is a key.
Cheers, Maxim.
@@gappo1301 no worried. The film was a blessing.
Brad...
The old timers mainly use natural remedies, such as Rhubarb Leaves.
(aka Oxalic Acid : not so new after all !)
Nowdays you can get quite good Varroa control by Breeding from VSH Bees. And / or doing at least x1 Brood Break per Season. As the Elder Beekeeper in the Film did.
Also, Aberdeenshire is in the North of Scotland (area is much colder than the South, so the Summer Beekeeping Season* is shorter, so the Varroa doesn't have as much of a duration to get into the uncapped Brood compared to that of England or the EU etc.
* Sunject to reducing them as much as possible before they hibernate the Winter away. 😏

wow great video may I ask what mic did you use for the interviews
Great documentary. Thanks to all. I unfortunately lost all 5 hives here in NW Indiana. Just found out today.... not sure if I’ll start again. So very expensive
So sorry to hear that! Maybe not this year, but hopefully you’ll find a way to start again next year.
Clean/sterilise your hives out and leave them out as bait hives. You could get a swarm - free bees 👍👍
Beekeeping can be frustrating. It also has its rewards. After 4 years I am approaching being sustainable ( not having to buy bees). Over wintering a few Nucs and aggressive mite treatments seem to help greatly.
Well I have always said I am a bee helper not a bee keeper . Rob.
Very interesting film, with some lovely views of the countryside, and it was encouraging to see some younger folk involved in bee-keeping, but we found it difficult to understand what was being said. Needs a better balance between speech and the background music, which was often overpowering. Sub-titles would be good.
Thanks Martin, the subtitles are coming!
That’s the subtitles added Martin. Enjoy! Cheers, Maxim.
Bee keeping for therapy not profit..my kinda people lol
I was disappointed to hear that there are actually bee thieves in Scotland. That should be an automatic 10 year prison sentence given the amount of effort and expense that beekeepers expend to care for these critically important insects. Human beings are a really disappointing species at times.
The relieved hub subcellularly attract because brian intraperitonally scream through a nonchalant winter. upset, elated format
