    I love the way that pond looks, and I hope this encourages a lot of people to consider adding features like this to their enclosures where animals require these kind of things.
    I have to disagree with people who suggested a canister filter or any kind of aquarium filter, just seems so unnecessary, especially considering the relative ease of cleaning this as it is.

      Thanks, Harvy! Yeah, I'd love to see more water features paired with BRB's... I'd be curious to see how she would behave with an even larger pond! Yep 100% water changes are really the only way to deal with snake waste

    This is so cool! My ball python likes to swim a lot, despite all his humidity requirements being fine and the vet saying he is healthy, so it seems he just enjoys it. I was thinking of getting him a water feature as well, these are some great ideas.

    Glad you agree with my previous comment about using a commercial external canister filter with a couple of gate valves to make life a lot more simpler. It would also create a bacterial filter in the canister filter media which would keep the water fresh and clean, and be able to deal with any pollution form urination / defecation in the pond until you are able to clean it out. What you have there is just a sump with a circulation pump. But it's all good fun experimenting :)

    The only thing I wondered is why build the mini aquarium? Why not just use a similarly sized plastic tub?

      A plastic tub was the original plan but for the life of me I couldn't find a tub that was at the dimensions I needed! So mini aquarium it was!

    Man, this is super helpful. Thanks and ton!! Just trying to design the adult tank for my BRB. I really wanted to make a pond for him cause he always dunks after a meal and his bowl is way too small now. But this whole set-up will definitely do the trick. Tbh, I think your system is better than a canister filter. I'm big in both Aquarium and reptiles while doing irrigation for a living...FWIW I think a canister will be too much flow. My BRB got irritated by a mister so I'd guess a high flow pond stream might be the same. Some canisters have controllable flow but I still think they'd be too much. The only thing I'm going to add to your design is I'm going to make that return line into a waterfall for the pond. The waterfall part would be hard with the flow of canister filter. Thanks again for showing this set-up. It's really awesome.

      Thanks for watching the video, I’m glad you found it helpful! Sounds like you’re gonna have an awesome set up as well. And great point about the canister filter, I hadn’t even thought about the flow disturbing her. I’m glad I didn’t head that direction, she seems content with the water trickling in as it is now 👌🏼 Good luck with your build!

    Your Brazilian rainbow boa looks so gorgeous and healthy!! How old is she? What her name (if she has one)?
    I would absolutely love a Brazilian rainbow boa someday, but not as my first snake - the humidity requirements for baby rainbow boas is a tad intimidating, and so I would want to get some snake experience under my belt first.
    But should I eventually bring one of these beautiful beings into my home, I'll definitely want to offer her an elaborate water feature like the one you have here! :D

    • @grisflyt
      @grisflyt Před 3 lety +1

      Humidity level is no problem if kept in a more traditional wooden enclosure and use appropriate bedding, like coconut fiber and adding a plant or two (e.g. Chlorophytum comosum; sturdy and cheap). You will easily keep the humidity in the 75-95% range if you mist every second or third day. I didn't know Epicrates were this aquatic. That would be my concern. Semi-aquatic snakes and lizards are super cool, but take a lot of work.

    • @caryelizabeth624
      @caryelizabeth624 Před 3 lety

      @@grisflyt Thank you for the tips! I would definitely want a well- established planted tank with a large water feature, like the one here. It would be a very fun (but also challenging) enclosure build. I would want to get some experience under my belt before tackling the "vision" I have for a brb enclosure. 😁

    • @grisflyt
      @grisflyt Před 3 lety

      @@caryelizabeth624 Chlorophytum comosum is a great plant because you can have them in your house and pick buds for the enclosure. If they die, just pick a new bud.

  • @u4ea70
    @u4ea70 Před 3 lety

    Rainbow boas needs much more height than this - I have a 1 year old BRB in a 36" viv in my bedroom and he spends ALL of the night climbing. In the wild, they eat a lot of bats and arboreal rodents (as per studies of stomach contents). I love the features you are giving your BRB but BRBs are very arboreal and they must be given climbing space. You can see videos of my BRB in his enclosure on my channel, including multiple videos of him feeding at night while in his branches.

    • @AnimalsatHomePodcast
      @AnimalsatHomePodcast  Před 3 lety +1

      I completely agree! I think I might’ve mentioned that at the beginning? Oh wait, if you go back to the video before this one (The video that I add all these features) I talk about how I do not like this cage, and the plan is to give her a bigger one once I have the space. I.e. I’m making do with what I have now, but plan to update her ASAP

    • @u4ea70
      @u4ea70 Před 3 lety

      @@AnimalsatHomePodcast Nice. Even without the height your setup is really good, far better than most. Some people think it's fair to get a BRB, put it in a 12" high rack with newspaper, a humid hide and a water bowl. That's just cruel IMO. If you aren't willing to but the effort into best husbandry for the snake, don't get one. BTW, inspired by your video, I just put a Pyrex dish filled with water and sphagnum moss in his viv and he is sitting in it, submerged. I don't know if you know this but the closest living relative of the green anaconda is the epicrates species.
