FELINE ACNE TREATMENT FROM HOME: How To Remove Cat Acne or Blackheads From Your Cats Chin
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 29. 01. 2020
- Cats can get acne? They sure can! In today's video I'm going to be sharing with you feline acne treatment from home. Not all cats are likely to develop acne, however, my cat Posie does appear to have a mild case of feline acne which you will see on this video. There are several ways to treat cat acne, this is the method I find easiest as recommended by my vet.

Hi Furiends! Today's video is all about Feline Acne. I would love to know, has your cat ever had acne? Let me know in the comments below. đ
Are you gonna make anymore videos?
AlexisL Ward Hi, Alexis! Definitely planning on it in the coming weeks. If you have anyrecommendations or ideas for videos, I would love to hear them.đ
Also, I love your Tom đâŁïž He's SUPER CHILL & those flattened ears of his are so unique & adorable!! I really need to do this treatment ASAP for my kitty; Gracie....but she just won't have anything to do with it đ©đđ đ€Š
I'm really worried about it because it's just been getting worse lately and she's about 1yr & 5 months now & it seems like it's worse than when I noticed it a few months ago but I can't afford to pay for a vet appointment at the moment, any tips on how to get her to calm down enough for me to help her here at home??đ€·
@@kerryjo8119 Aw, thank you Kerry! I totally understand. Not all of my cats will withstand this treatment either. đčđčđč
I had purchased everything recommended from the video, and this 100% solved my problem. Now he has a clean chin.đđđThank you so much!!!
Hi, Sherly! Thanks so much, I'm happy to hear it worked for you. đApparently some cat foods can also create the acne from being too oily so another tip I have is to switch to cat food which is meant for cats specifically with sensitive skin. This has helped my cat from getting further acne as well. All the best! đ
Hi great to hear đ for how long did you do this treatment?â My cat has it too but also a swollen lip but I donât want to go to let him check
What a gorgeous little boy you are raising!!
Ya my cat does that. My other cats dont get that but his isnt red or inflammed ita very mild.
A critical step is to wash all the cats bowls with warm soapy water every day. Pay special attention to the rims where the cat's chin touches. Switch out the bowls to glass or stainless steel Should the acne persist, apply a cream with 2.5 % benzyl peroxide lightly to the cat's chin after the cleaning steps above. xo
Benzyl peroxide gives them blisters in their mouths.
@@asclepius7516 Hi--I''ve not had that problem with low concentration 2.5% bp cream applied lightly externally. Sorry that happened to you
â@@asclepius7516 my vet suggested them
Did about 4 treatments on my tuxedoâs acne based on these steps (the acne was bad!!!), and itâs pretty much completely gone!! Thank you for a detailed step by step video.
I just did this for the first time today and it worked wonders. After cleansing my cats chin most of it was already gone. I'm definetely gonna keep doing this! I'm so happy!!
Iâm so excited to do this for my boys! I canât believe it never occurred to me that they canât really clean their own chins like they can the rest of their bodies đ„ș
Our girl has her first chin acne at age 7. She is highly resistant to being handled. Your cat is inspiring. We will do our best with Jean Grey (X-Men). Thank you so much!
I know this is an old comment but just came to say the same. Our almost 9 year old just got his first chin acne
If I tried helping my cat the way she does in the video, my cat would scratch my eyes out đ
Just found your video! So funny because my kitty has this type of acne too and last week I ordered a flea comb because I thought it would work great! Glad to see it dues. Great idea đĄ đââŹ
Not me scratching it off with my fingernails đ
me **crying emoji**
FR
Oh god i do that too-
Lmfao I felt like a degenerate for doing it with my nails too after watching all her prep and care to prevent infection and stuff lol.
Same Iâve been combing it off with a flea comb lol
So sweet!! I love that he knows you're helping him đđđđ
my first cat also had acne, my sister and i had never owned a cat before (i was 23 or 24) and we didnât know about catne before she got it. we used warm water, cat shampoo, and makeup cotton pads to remove it every few days, just like this video. after we switched her to a stainless steel bowl, the catne just went away after two or so weeks and we never dealt with the issue again. i like how your cat kept moving places like âcurse you mother, iâm trying to escape!!â
Thank you for this video! Used it on my cat Percy today and so far so good
Gabrielle Sivley Hi, Gabrielle! Thank you so much for watching.đșđ I hope it starts to clear up soon. Another thing that helped with my cats acne is changing his diet. Once I changed the brand of dry food he was on, his acne cleared up almost entirely. I think because some foods can be quite oily which causes irritation as well. Just something else to look into if this treatment doesnât help entirely.đđđ
My cat is 2yrs old she never had any problems and Iâve been feeding her with plastic bowls for months.. Today I found a tiny black dot on her chin and it had specks of black particles around so Iâm guessing itâs a black head. She doesnât have flees Iâve been medicating her against those and the vet just examined her. Iâm gonna switch to metal bowls as soon as I can so she doesnât get more. Wonât take any chance... Thanks for your video itâs really helpful! đ
makeMeCryë°©í Thatâs a good first step! If you find it continues, it could even be the oils inside her food causing skin irritation. Thanks so much for watching! đșđ
You can also preventative use witch hazel, a diff vid had a regimen for that cuz like all things too much is bad
I'm a bit relieved. I'm a new cat owner and my kitten has had acne on her chin but I had no idea what it was. I had never seen cat acne before and I was worried she had some sort of skin infection or something. Looks like this can be an easy fix. Thank you so much!
Me too. I have had cats for over 40 years and now I have my first kitten with acne! will try this on him.
Thanks! Very informative and simple! :-)
My cat has some acne on hes chin, & thanks to ur video I just learned something today.
Thank you for this video. I have been noticing the little black dots on my Sebastian's chin for some time now but passed it off to food particles. Now that I know what it is, I am going to purchase the shampoo and flea comb. He is quite docile and loves to have his chin scratched, so am hoping for the best. That's Sebastian's picture with the mustache.
I read the acne comes from plastic bowls
Just figured out my cat has this. It's super mild so I didn't want to have an expensive vet visit. Thank you so much for this info!
I went to the vet and he didnât know what to say đ
So I decided to follow the steps in this video and it definitely worked, but after two months it came back. I guess there is no real cure for this.
THIS HELPED ME SO MUCHHH
I did exactly this process and no more black spots for my cat Spell! Thank you so much!
That's my last name
Thanks for the video. I have a cat that needs this treatment.
Thanks! My cat is white and I thought he had flease on his chin cause the black specs came out in the comb. I have everything but the special shampoo
Bri 78 Hi! Thatâs okay. Even if you just massage with warm water, thatâs what my vet initially recommended to see if thereâs an improvement. Iâve also since changed his food, and it seems to have helped it also completely disappear.đș
I'm excited to try this for my Opal!! We switched to stainless steel food bowls and water fountain. This helped her acne some, but it's still there and very mild. I will be trying this! đ
My cat got zits under his chin, so I applied Witch Hazel which did the job, went away in 2 days. I threw out the plastic bowls and switched to stainless steal btw.
Thank you!
Posie is such a sweet boy
Good boy, Posie!
Why am I addicted to these videos
I try to do that on one of my cats, but it was very bad that I had to make an appointment at the vet. Iâll keep that in mind if it comes back.
Thank you for this video! Curious as to whether or not licking the shampoo during the wait period would be bad for kitty?
Thank you so much for this video! I just discovered my baby girl has acne and being the first time dealing with it, I thought it was flea dirt! But wow I didnât realize they could get it too but I will definitely try this remedy out! May I ask where you got the shampoo from?
Flea dirt would be worse!
Thanks!
My cat had cat ance on his chin but he also had large whiteheads I was popping and he let me remove them. We were moving around to different locations and I think the moves stressed him out to the point that he developed a urinary problem he couldnât pee I took him to the vet and they were like your cat is STRESSED they couldnât find an infection or blockage that caused the urinary issue. As soon as we moved out to our current home hes been so happy.
Thanks for this vedio đč
I was driving myself nuts with flea treatments thinking he had fleas and even the vet said he had fleas yet we never found one single flea and i have other pets to none of them have any signs of fleas so it was good to see this and consider this as a possibility of what else it may be
Same! He's flea free and only scratching his little chinđ„ș Def going to change my bowls and do this
Ugh thatâs annoying the vet misdiagnosed when thatâs something so easy to figure out lol
I would change vets!
Great video, I have two Maine coons and they donât have any at the moment
I'm totally getting new glass bowls for them... they've used plastic all there lives and both my kitties have mild chin acne. I never knew what it was... thought it was flea scat...
the tool by lucky pawison looks pretty good. they show it under dr pimple popper
How is your cat so calm! My girl get so mad at me when I try to come near her chin.
Hey! Great video, my cat Vincent has a case of mild to moderate acne. We were instructed to dampen his chin with warm water and then apply benzoyl peroxide shampoo and then wash it out. For how long should we do this? We dont comb him there in relation to this treatment, maybe we should? Vet didnt say anything about that.
My cat also has cat acne, sometimes breaks out on his chin and around his whiskers. He's a little stress pot apparently, so that might be a trigger. It's really mild, idk if I would have noticed if he wasn't a white cat. Cleaning definitely helps. I usually use fragrance free soap and warm water and/or a gentle alsol solution.
Stress can surprisingly lead to a lot of physical ailments in pets, my kitty is also a bit predisposed to something called stress bladder. Took many vet visits to pinpoint it. He's not a very visibly anxious boy or anything either, but giving him a specific urinary stress kibble and calming drugs almost immediately solved the problem. Weird stuff.
He's not on the prescription diet anymore, so I might try slight dietary changes to see if it helps. Right now I am just trying to rule out all and any of the treats, which my cat of course thinks is a massive bummer lol
My natural vet says it is autoimmune cause. Chg to no grains better food
I seen one video about dipping a cotton ball in black tea instead of the shampoo and then because felines CANâT clean the bottom of their chin they used antibiotic cream like neosporin and then instead of fine tooth comb, they just shave the chin every short. But the witch hazel I was wondering. Thatâs a good move as well.
My cat has a badly swollen chin. The vet said he has cat acne with some infection and prescribed an antibiotic. He asked his water witching rods yes and no questions and said my cat is allergic to chicken. Creepy! He did not instruct me to clean the chin and do what you did. He did not tell me anything about plastic bowls. Thanks for the info and I will see if I can get it to work.
Singingwaters Interesting! Did you do some sort of allergy test to confirm the allergy? I know that food can be a cause as well but I didnât think it could be a chicken allergy specifically. I noticed the dry food my cat was eating seemed to leave an oily residue in the bowl which made me think there has to be other ingredients in the food irritating his skin. So, I since switched him to a food for sensitive skin and grain free and it has since cleared up entirely.đș I hope youâre able to clear your cats up soon.đ
@@kittycatsoulfood984 There was no test. He just asked his water witching rods. I am feeding my cats raw food and some Halo dry food. I don't know what to believe. I am cleaning his chin now and it looks a little better.
@@singingwaters what are water witching rods?
Say what lol
Iâm not even sure what material my bowl is but Iâm changing it anyway I really donât trust it, my cats getting really old though so thats not helping, but hopefully ill be able to clear it soon :(
thanks for this!! ⥠found some âcatneâ on my kitty today, she was NOT a fan of the treatment but her chin is looking much better now:)) worth the struggle, iâll definitely keep up with it
chelsey Glad you found it helpful lovely! đ
My cats both have quite mild chin acne and i didn't know about the witch hazel thing till this evening. I'd just been cleaning with baby shampoo and water and keeping a close eye on them, my boy has it worse than his sister be doesn't like me touching his head very much so i made the choice to shave his chin so i could more easily see the problem and reduce the stress i was putting him through (he'd already lost some fur due to it) now i can see and easily and quickly treat his chin even if he does look a like silly i think it was the best choice while treating him
I really liked your video đ€©âșïž

Hello! I can't find a chlorhexidine shampoo for animals and specifically for cats here in my country, do you have any alternative for that? I can only find chlorhexidine hand soap :(
My cat has very severe acne and itâs gotten to her top lip so Iâm taking her to the vet on saturday
Wow, that is one well behaved cat
My 10 year old cat started getting bad chin acne after I changed his food. Iâm going to get one of those cat licking food mats and change his food as well as clean his chin.
My three cats have this with varying severities all over their body not just their face
Could be something else đ€·ââïž maybe flea dirt
Currently dealing with mild acne in my 9 month old boy and pretty severe acne in my 1.5 year old boy. And I'm basically doing the washing with a cotton pas and warm water, combing, and a little tiny bit of a benzoyl peroxide creme on the 1.5 year old
Natalie Bise Thatâs good! Do you find itâs getting any better?
@@kittycatsoulfood984 definately! It is a slow process though because I don't want to be too aggressive and make him bleed. I use the safari flea comb because it is metal and sturdier, but I find it harder to clean due to it having 2 rows of teeth
@@nataliebise2726 Totally, it's definitely a daily process to maintain. I'm going to order a metal comb myself. I think my cat's acne is more stress related than material related though having other males in my house.
@@kittycatsoulfood984 same here stress wise with both of our cats since their cat dad has been away for a few months now and they're both very attached to him, and it didn't flare up until recently. The vet isn't worried about the acne as long as I'm doing the daily maintenance
Povidone-Iodine worked markedly better than chlorhexidine shampoo on our kitty.
i saw that on my cat but i didnt know what that was i had a clay bowl that was for water she loved water
Thank you! My cat is having this black things on his chin & I thought it was dirty but then I noticed it again after a day of bathing him. Glad to know I can clean it for him. I will try this & keep an eye to see if it gets better. Does it fully go away? And should I take away his water fountain that is plastic for stainless steel or ceramic? Thanks, again! Worried cat mom!
Really helpful video! Do you have any tips for getting your cat to sit still while doing this? My cat wonât let me hold her like you do in the video, she just wriggles away!
Buy only stainless steel or ceramic bowls for food and water and wash them like u do human dishes each day before filling them up and it should clear up and not come back.
Wrap in towel like a burrito
Wrap in towel burrito style
Thanku so much for your information .
I am in india I have much searched the both shampoo and the hazel. I didn't get the both ....
So is there any other way....
Would it work to gently clean it twice a day with a toothbrush? Using peroxide? I think that way would work best for Simba because he only stays calm for so long.
My poor kitty is bengal, sheâs 7 and never had acne ever until two months ago, it seemed like overnight that it got bad! Her chin has huge sores, and she became depressed. So I took her to the vet, sheâs been on amoxicillin a steroid for 3 to 4 weeks her chin wasnât inflamed any longer and red but the sores and the swelling were still there and in fact she didnât just have blackhead she had white pustules. So I took her back to the same vet for the second time who said she thought it was looking a little better but it did look better only because they werenât so inflamed but her whole chin was still covered in red sore pustules and large blackheads so I could not comb her chin and barely could I even touch her because they hurt. The vet then stopped the oral medication and prescribed a topical anti-bacterial medication Dermotologist use but her chin after using that for two weeks has not gotten better either and I just feel so bad and donât know what else to do other than get a second opinion which I am leaning towards now. Any suggestions would be so helpful for me because Iâve changed all of her food dishes even though she never ate out of plastic to begin with I actually stopped using the steel and only use porcelain. Iâm not sure how this came about I did have a baby 7-8 months ago but she doesnât seem stressed about that but I will say I have many baby toys that are colored plastics and I wonder if that is actually how this all started and I wanna know if anybody thinks so too I guess? Itâs the only huge change weâve had!
How is your kitty now? đ
So our one cat, Hobbes, has had minor acne issues in the past. Our vet didn't seem concerned. Today I had Hobbes and Lulu into the vet for checkups, and Hobbes had been having more of a breakout than usual. Our normal vet was out of town so we saw a substitute vet. He seemed more concerned. Sent me home with a blue liquid to clean and an ointment. Twice a day. I'm wondering if your process can be used as a preventative process after we get this breakout cleared up. Hobbes will be 8 in September. We have been using only stainless and ceramic bowls for several years now. I clean them all often or after one use for the wet food bowls. At a loss of what is causing this and what else to do for him.
My kitty has mild acne, but im too afraid to try and treat it (the vet said she's fine and its not necessary to do anything atm) bc i have a picking disorder and really don't want to hurt her.
But these videos are SO satisfying and i can't explain why
this is EXACTLY how i am. i'm worried i'll get obsessive and go overboard, so for now i just use a tissue or cotton pad and spray some veterinary wound/surgical cleanse on it, then wipe my cat's chin with that. it seems to be helping a bit. i'm not going to try to actually remove or express them unless i know for sure i won't become compulsive.
Hi thankyou so much for this video.
I thought my cat had dried food on his chin.
From mina in London.
I hope you're able to help him clear it up! đ
How frequently should you do this? Daily or weekly?
And You rinse the clorhexidin shampoo or is not necesary?
I'm wondering why you used Chlorhexidine Shampoo instead of Benzoyl Peroxide Shampoo? Are they interchangable? In addition to my cat starting to develop cat acne, she has several pimple like bumps, that scab and fall off over her body (they all healed) and now some new ones are present again. I wanted to spot clean with Chlorhexidine, but then I read up on Davis' Benzoyl Peroxide and don't know what the difference is. Any suggestions? Is one better than the other?
This definitely works! My cat was acne free for 2 months but it suddenly came back :(
I guess itâs normal??? Even my veterinarian doesnât know what to say lol.
Do you put the shampoo everyday? Or just twice a week? Thank you!!!
thanks for the video! Did the cat acne completely resolve with this process? how long did it take to resolve and did it come back once you quit all these? Did you do this everyday? I am experiencing a similar situation I would be glad if you can reply. Thanks!
Something you have to do regularly. You wash your own face and you donât just stop once a skin issue like acne or hyperpigmentation ends, you keep doing it regularly. Same with our cats
My vet recommended benzoyl peroxide.
Racheal Cooper Thatâs also a good option depending on the sensitivity of your cats skin.đ
Dermatologists are now saying not to use witch hazel on skin anymore like they used to think it was good and now they think itâs too strong and not necessary to be helpful. Just sharing since I watch a lot of board certified dermatologists on CZcams and was curious about witch hazel
How often should this procedure be performed?
Iwant to have like that catđđ
Is the witch hazel safe if they lick their chin?
My cat gets acne every 3 days no matter how we brush clean it even if we switch all bowls with ceramics, only way is to shave it after shaving it, it never came back
You use the 2 percent chlorhexodine shampoo?
i have 2 cats. both have same issue
I saw this a while ago
We then did. Our cat
He had a lot ,now he had none,we check several times
Would Chlorhexidine spray work also?
One of my cats gets chin acne on and off but I didnât know what it was until now. I was afraid Iâd was some kind of bug lol
Can i use mouth wash contains chlorohexedine in it? I didn't find this shampoo in my place
Hey sweetie! Your video is just what I was looking for... but before I start...can u tell me if the shampoo will sting my kitty cat? What about the witch hazel? I have a 15 month old male Blue Bicolor Ragdoll cat and he has developed this condition. Thank you in advance for answering. I want to go ahead and begin treatment as soon as I can. -Courtney
It shouldnât. Find one your vet recommends. Also the witch hazel in a tiny amount with warm water shouldnât
Not sure if I missed it. But how often do you do it?
What if it bleeding
cause my cat hade one pimple like thing on her chin the siz of the smalist marble and now there are 3 and it looks lie they were bleeding at some point please i love my cat do think you can help?
My cat had some bumps on his chin and I thought it was cat herpes I cleaned it with no rinse cat shampoo and put unrefined cold pressed coconut oil on it cleared up in a few days
PodrĂas regalarme un trepador o rascador grande como los que tienes atrĂĄs de ti cuando hablas en el vĂdeo, saludos desde MĂ©xico.
How often do you need to do this treatment? Every day to this level for the rest of his life?
Also what do you recommend for cats that struggle to sit for it - mine hates his chin being touched at all!
From what I've read, how long it takes to clear out the acne depends on the acne's origin (hormonal, plastic bowls, type of food, etc) and how well you treat it/do this cleaning routine. Once it has cleared and the condition has gotten better, then every other day to prevent any future break outs.
Tips for dealing with your cat's chin: try to approach them when they're most calm or sleeping and start by just caressing their chin for short periods of time so they get used to being touched there. You can also give them treats afterwards so they associate "chin petting = good stuff". And whenever you want to use something on them (for example, you want to brush their chin with a similar comb like in the video) let them smell and inspect the object first, the more familiarised they feel with something, the less threatning it feels to them and they won't be as feisty.
Hope this helps!
Hello, my little kitten has some acne under his chin, its been almost 9 days with the witch hazel but nothing. I have only been using the witch hazel and nothing else. Where can i get that shampoo that she washed his chin with?
Is there any substitute to Chlorhexidine shampoo...?
I can't find chlorhexidine shampoo in my area.
thank you! my 9 year old cat has started getting acne because we switched the bowl her chicken wing is in.. because i melted the other one in the oven... we're gonna get a better bowl and ill make sure to treat the acne :)) thanks!
If youâre in a pinch and canât get to the store or whatnot, you can just use a small ceramic/porcelain dish/bowl that your family doesnât use much. Like a food safe one. Also I donât know if you meant like actual chicken chicken wings but my vet told me never to let me cats or dogs eat chicken *bone* because it splinters and it can puncture their GI tract.
@@becky8193 Chicken bone is fine as long as its uncooked. She hasnt had any problems during her 9 years of life. We got her a new bowl as soon as we noticed it caused problems.
Is witch Hazel safe for cats? Like what if they lick some of it?
Iâm looking for information on pimples that I have lately been finding on my cat. These arenât on his chin - theyâre around the area of his neck, front and back both. Theyâre bigger that the blackheads you show in the video. They donât seem to bother him at all and he doesnât mind my touching them. But they bother me! I feel them when I pet him and I donât know whatâs going on that is causing these things.
My cat had acne. I noticed her white chin started to turn black at the fur roots. Took her to the vet who gave me a hexachlorophene solution to clean her with cotton pads. He recommended getting rid of plastic dishes - so I use glass now. It got worse with oozing and scabbing as it healed. Hasnât happened since I changed dishes and clean water daily. =^..^=
We just took ours to the vet. She cleaned it while we were there but now 2 days later I feel like it looks worse. How long did it take yours to look better?
I have a question is how do you know if it Feline Acne or it just plain dirt because I wipe some off with a wet warm water paper towel and two black dots came off my cats chin? My cat is 8 years old if that changes anything
I have witch hazel with alcohol. Does the wh need to be non alcoholic??
Do you have to clean it everyday? Please answer
Ohhhh so that black thing has a naaaame? Didnt know that until this vid. Thanks tho!
How do you prevent it from reoccurring? I clean my cat's chin every couple of days with a similar method and the "dirt" keeps coming back. Maybe I need to buy that special shampoo. I change her food bowl every single meal and she doesn't have the bowl lying around all day so there is no risk of bacteria building in the food. I also only use ceramic plates for her. She has access to a pet water fountain too. Could it be an allergy to food? She's been eating the same type of food for over a year, so I don't know why it's suddenly come up, she's never had this issue before. She is almost 2 years old. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!
Christelle Quillien Christelle Quillien Hi, Christelle! I would try switching her food to a food specifically for sensitive skin (if sheâll let you) and see if that helps. Some foods are really oily and could be contributing to the reoccurring acne. Since I made this video, I have changed my catâs food and now it has completely cleared up so Iâm sure that was the culprit. My vet also suggests in general to clean my catâs chin after each meal, so for sure the food that touches their chin over time must create some kind of skin sensitivity. I also recommend asking your vet if they have any other suggestions to the cause.đ„°đ
@@kittycatsoulfood984 interesting, thank you for replying! i'll look into that, thanks!
@@kittycatsoulfood984 What kind of food did you feed before & what do you feed now?
I touched them and tried to remove them with my bars hands thinking they were some dirt from playing outside do they have a bad impact on human ?
No, it's just a buildup of natural oils from the cat's skin. Not dangerous, just a little gross.
My cat actually suffers from cat acne as a result of food allergies, and my cat even had gunk in his ears which we thought were mites but turns out it was also a reaction he was having to his old food. Once I switched his food to Z/D he stopped having acne all together.
Amanda Amanda Never heard of it! I just researched it now and maybe Iâll give it a try as well just to experiment. What kind of food were you feeding your cat prior to that? đș
Kitty Cat Soul Food I was feeding him blue buffalo! My other cats still eat blue buffalo while he is strictly on the Z/D. I didnât get him allergy tested so Iâm not sure what food(s) heâs allergic to but once I switched him to z/d he was fine. also I recently discovered they have treats in this line as well đ
Amanda Amanda Thanks for sharing! Iâll definitely give it a try and see if I notice any improvements. đșđ
Same girl! I switched my catâs food and he started getting acne. So I switched back to his previous food and I think it is solving the problem.
