Amen! And each other. This is what other countries have told me… “Why respect a culture whereas they do NOT respect their own.” They (black people in the masses do NOT help their own grow and climb the financial ladder). In order to have world dominance, many/most of us would need to be wealthy and carry ourselves with dignity. You see how all the other races circulate their currency within their race significantly more than the black races? They are strengthening their own globally by doing this. We also have to make black individuals who are willing to sell out their own. (These are typical and daily debates that we had at my HBCU... as well as what I have observed over time.)

I'm black...found a wonderful man in Italy but also experienced blatant racism by a security guard at a museum. He screamed and accused me of having a knife in my bag. I opened my back pack and all I had was a bottle of vitamins and a croissant. 🥴 He was very embarrassed for the whole scene made and apologized. The incident shook me up so badly all I could do was go back to my hotel. I cried and hid in my room for two days, as it was so traumatic. I eventually came out and continued to tour the country with the wonderful man I met there.

As a white American, made with Italian parts...I am so sorry you were treated unkindly. My own father, used to speak with racism. He'd say it in English and Italian. I gave him two choices. He either cleaned up his language and attitude or he wouldn't be welcomed around. This is after 20 years estranged. I grew up without him and I had no problem being the one that walked away this time. To this day, my father shows respect and has cleaned up his attitude. I didn't grow up with that hateful energy and I wasn't about to welcome that hateful energy into my space. I have a son. and I won't have him thinking racism is okay. I'm glad your dad let go of the negative remarks👍 and I'm glad you didn't allow it to consume your space👍😃
My wife is Italian. I am Jamaican. I have Italian born children and an Italian passport and ID as well although I live in London. Whenever I go to US border people always pulled me over asking me about my passport and how did I come by it. Once and Italian American customs offices question my passport and even speaking to me in Italian. The language was not a requirement to obtain citizenship but now since Ms Meloni took office it is now a requirement. I only said the pledge in Italian. Also I applied for citizenship while living in the UK. When I travels to Italy no questions asked by border control. No language questions nothing. They even sent me my voter card in London to vote in the local elections. Oh by the way I was surprised to see African security guards in the shops at the mall on recent visit. There was none in the last ten years I’ve been visiting the mall. There was an African hairdresser in the town was well. There is a new generation of Italians now.
This happened to me too as an Asian in Italy. Then in a line of an espresso store, one black guy and I exchanged eye contact and shared the common sentiment. People showed with their facial expressions that they didn’t want me in the same line nor me eating a bread at the bar. Some people even stepped and kicked my feet.
What does loving ourselves have to do with not wanting to be mistreated? I love me but I don’t want you to verbally and/or physically assault me because of the color of my skin. 🤦🏾♀️
You can't change how someone treats you. You can't make them treat you right. So what else can you do but to make that an opportunity to love yourself more I'm Korean and I'm not accepted by the Korean community because I'm only HALF. Yes I've been mistreated by them. I can't change them. So I'll just become the best version of myself
It’s not because of your skin tone. It’s what your skin tone represents- Originality, deep roots, creativity, ingenuity in the face of adversity, etc. but mostly or mainly it reminds them who’s YAHs chosen people are and what the REAL Jesus ( YESHUA) and Mary and all the other people of the Bible looked like and it ain’t like them.
As we have seen from history, ignorance is an almost incurable disease, and takes many forms, understanding the nonsense of it should just make you laugh and understand that by them thinking that way, by not being comparable, you're already a better human being. I hate whichever institution created these racial ideas, for humanity and the rest of the animal kingdom, they're used very differently. A simple variation in skin tone is not a different race, we are all one, humanity, with different demographics and origins of ancestry, which still leads back to the same place... We don't even have a subspecies lol or that would be neanderthals and so on. So who TF thought race was good for differentiating the shades of man? Also scientifically, genetic diversity is the best thing lol, mating with your own demographic creates a very limited gene pool, which brings in mutations, the bad types.

I visited Italy (southern Italy), and I had no problems with the locals. I won't forget when in Sicily I was amongst a crowd bunched together, trying to get onto transportation. There was this white American guy who thought he could be nasty to me & push me. Before I could react, the entire crowd of Sicilians was not having that. They reacted to him so quickly, like, 'yooo wtf do you think you're doing?!' He got back right real quick. I felt that ❤😊❤
Sicillians are more different than italians i exeperienced them over in the uk and they are very loving and warm unlike italians whp are rude and have an attitude
@Amin-pn8vj my comment was in response to The kind of experience I had w/some of the Sicilians. Venice, Rome, Florence, & Naples were my other explorations.
Its true. This happened to my daughter and I while we were on vacation. in Rome. We could not even get a taxi to stop for us. We were so grateful when a man came out of the crowd and told us to step back and flagged the taxi. It stopped for him. That night we were invited to an outdoor concert but we decided against going because we were afraid we would not get a taxi to our hotel. That was just one of many incidents during the week we spent there. Next stop..somewhere in Africa. Why should I spend good money with people who hate us?
I am not trying to gaslight you in any way, but getting a taxi in Rome is a skill, sometimes I had to put myself in the middle of the street, they’re driving like crazy.
@@takumifujiwara9181 I guess it depends on the hour as well, here in Italy around 8/9 and 16/17 it’s difficult to get into any taxi, and the streets are packed with people and cars, but yeah, I don’t think there’s any racist issue, it’s just a taxi, and also, it’s not that common here to stop taxis in the street, there are parking lots reserved for taxis and there you can find them waiting for people. Sometimes here in busy cities you HAVE to ask the hotel for taxi reservations because there are some moments of the day when you need to have it.
The taxi wasn't the only issue, as I've said before. It just highlighted what had been a series of people looking you in your face with hostility when you said good morning. Also, the butcher shop refused to sell us, although we were sent by the people at the corner who knew him. The hotel who put us in a backstreet apartment, although we had booked months ahead for the main hotel. Let me not mention the behavior of the front desk clerk and how she treated us after we stood there and heard her being nice to the Caucasian guests. We are not bad travelers and know that you treat people the way you want to be treated. We appreciated the gentleman who came to our rescue and don't think all Italians are the same. However, there were too many incidents that ruined the experience for us. Hence, me saying I'd rather go where I feel more welcome. Thank you very much.
You don't get a taxi like that in Rome . There's special locations for it or you can order one through an app. My husband is black and had no issues at all (I lived in Rome before we got married). In my experience if you are black and American you are fine in Rome. A lot of Italians have issues with migrants from Africa though. There's a lot of fear monger going around there...just like in US .
I visited Italy twice this year, for a total of 2 months. I felt like I was getting worshipped; thats how great people were to me. At a party, a man announced loudly " You are by far, the best looking woman here!" Even the women were exceedingly kind to me and very helpful, especially when I needed directions. There were few exceptions, but it was envy/insecurity/jealousy and not racism. I rarely paid for meals or drinks. Italians spoiled me ❤. Yes, im a black woman.

So glad your employer protected your rights. Not all of us are fortunate to have that. Kudos to them and kudos to U for knowing your worth in the first place. 🥇
You don’t have to go to Italy to experience that. My town is mainly Italian and I used to work in nursing homes where a lot of elderly Italian patients had families who own restaurants. Lot of those families gave us staff hell with a lot of accusations in the nursing home. I am glad someone is pointing this out but this is something I just don’t think about on a daily basis. Why is it when black people talk about their experience of racism in a country people want to deny your experience or gaslight you. I've been to Italy, Venice to be exact and got stared out constantly to the point it was so uncomfortable. It was like what are you doing here. 3 days was more than enough.
By denying it, people exonerate themselves from the toughts of being racist and doing anything about it. It is comfortable and it maintains the white power in place. From a white Italian. Racism is so rooted in Italy and so as in any white country. This is just how it is. So, as a white person, you need to aknowledge that, admit it to yourself and adopt daily anti-racist thoughts and behaviours to improve. But for 99% of people is just more comfortable saying I am not racist or, racism does not exist at all, and do nothing about it.
I agree. Wow, 3 days. There are a lot of Africans in Italy. Maybe not where you were. I say this because if they see a lot of Africans maybe they would be use to seeing people who aren’t Italians.
What an idiocy. So you are telling me that staring is racist and that blacks in black neighboors or nations don't stare at anyoone with different features or skin colour..LOL . Italy I have no desire to return plus they treat Africans terribly once they realize your American, British, or Canadian they treat you a little better because they believe you're more civilized, have a bit more money, and you're only visiting. This is a total generalization. I'm not doubting that some people experience it. I've been to several parts of Italy as well as several parts from Northern Italy to Southern Italy and luckily had great experiences each and every time.

A few years back my friend was catching a train from one city to another when she got on she saw a compartment with two black men sitting in it. She thought nothing of it and went and sat in a different section of the train. A few minutes into the journey this white woman walked up to her and started yelling at her in Italian. She couldn’t understand and so asked the white man sitting next to her to translate. Basically she was mad that my friend who is black was sitting in the with them and told her to move to the compartment at the back with the other blacks. She was really aggressive and threatening. Nobody said a word or stood up for her. So for her own safety she went to the back. She asked one of the black men about it and he said he had lived there for years and it’s just always been that way. This was about 8 years ago. Italy has a huge problem. It’s has completely changed my attitude towards all Italian because this attitude is tolerated by Italians who say they aren’t racist. Here's the thing: at least in Torino, where I lived, there were almost no people of color at that time. Fast forward 3 years and there was an influx of immigrants of color. I'm riding around with the same girlfriend and spray-painted in huge letters on a wall is written, "Negri Fuori Italia". I turned to her and said, "I thought you said Italians weren't racist".

I got a job offer to work in Italy. When I asked about how was it with diversity- they glazed past it with a simple “yes”. Yet, they went into detail with other people’s questions. Yeaaaaah I didn’t take it
Diversity is a uniquely American and British form of racism. Most countries don't buy into it and as a black person, I 100% support them in keeping their citizens safe. Us black folks are dangerous and cause problems, no way to get around that fact even if you and I individually are good people

I'm very, very brown. It was my first trip to Italy. I had to board a train, after leaving the airport. I was struggling with my heavy travel bag up a flight of stairs at the train station, and a random Italian guy took it and carried it all the way up. Then went his way. I missed my train stop that same night. An Italian couple who'd been in the train took me in their car all the way back, through the streets, to the address I was staying at. It was my first trip to Italy, and I met mostly kindness. There are r@cists everywhere. People always find something to h@te others for. Even if you all looked the same, some would hate others for something else. I don't focus on ridiculous people. They're truly not worth the time or energy.
❤❤❤❤ Wonderful comment! Celebrating kindness encourages more of the sort and shines attention on the right people, whether identified or not. It's so lovely reading of your experience here in this corner of CZcams. The Shorts section sees a lot of hyperfast consumption of information, quicker than people can digest and process. Ideas and topics that evoke strong reactions are often, sadly, attached to sorrowful or divisive aspects of our human experience. Even more reason for us to remind others that a real experience is defined by these contrasting things and we are a lot better off learning how to coexist. Balance over uniformity. Like you said beautifully at the end, even if we all looked the same, there will be those who fixate on another aspect unique to this or that person. Better to let be, because there are better things to see.
You are exactly right. In Nigeria, we don't necessarily have racism, but we have tribalism, religious bigotry, and stupidly regional rivalries. There is even discrimination between people of the same tribe, sometimes. Looks aren't the only basis for discrimination.
exactly!!! I’ve lived in Japan for a year and people always talk about how racist Japanese people are and when asked if I’ve had any experiences I say well, if any of them held any racist beliefs they’ve certainly not shown it to me. And even if I did get some “microaggressions”, I didn’t notice or get in my feelings about it bc I can’t be bothered to focus on that I’m just trying to live my life
I were employed by a wealthy black family as a private RN and I would listen to the stories that the retired couple has told me about their travels mainly around the world; and when I asked( oh, boy! Neither of these women is "begging" Italians to like us. They are simply stating a fact. The first women mentioned she is in Italy. She doesn't seem adversely affected by the facts she is stating. She actually sounds embarrassed for them.
No one is constantly looking to be hated!!! I experienced the same thing in Italy as well. Racism has nothing to do with the person who is being targeted. It’s the hearts of the people who are expressing this evil that’s the problem!!!
It is worse for black people, but it is directed at anyone who is foreign, or not full 100% Italian. My mother is from Bosnia and the Racism she got from greasy Italian men was horrible when she went a few years ago. She said Italy is one of the most Racist countries in Europe. For some strange reason, many 'Americans' think Italy is this wonderful place, with no issues or systems of class or caste. Most American's I have met are much nicer and friendlier to other races and ethnicities than Italians. Don't know why everyone thinks Italy is so great. England or France is nicer for a holiday.
It's not racism when you are the same race. That would be prejudice, dude. Racism is the belief one's "race" is superior. On a side note, tell your mom to visit the south instead. Naples can be intimidating, but the people are so warm-hearted. Don't let the looks deceive you, and look into the cultural norms before going. They can be loud, appear aggressive, and are very direct, but it doesn't always mean they are mad or dislike you. It's just how they communicate 😂
I’ve been to Italy more times than I can count. There are certain parts of Italy I don’t bother with because I know the racism is real. On the other hand, there are other parts of Italy where they don’t care who you are or where you’re from, so long as you appreciate their country and culture as much as they do. They are proud of their country and want you to have a good time and see it at its best.
Forget about them... continue to live and carry on in that beautiful city... they mad bcuz they are not procreating like they used to and their younger portion of their race is moving away... love can have the capability of growing any and everywhere... if you want to live in beautiful Italy or vacation there, then do so... damn what they won't like! It's about what every human being deserves on this Earth... to live in peace... ❤

Nah, it just hasn't happened to you yet. There's a footballer who was adopted and lives in Italy and even plays for their national team. His own fans made racist chants and monkey sounds directed at him. Plenty other ppl have had experiences where Italians have been unashamedly racist. Even actual Italians have said they are racist look through the comments

I used to go with my family as a teen. Traveling as a kid all over and living overseas for 17yrs. I made it my duty to learn clapbacks in THAT language😂 Be proud loud and let em stare. They love it❤ Being the only black girl alot of times only made me more confident. They can kiss this red white and blue tail of mine. Idgaf who doesnt like me😂❤❤❤
Not only black people get stared ,I have been to the middle east soon as you stand still a crowd will gather around you and just stare, I don't see that as being racist it's the last thing to enter my mind
There’s something genuinely wrong with this comment section. I’ve never seen many people lack basic comprehension and empathy. Videos like these are intended to help other black travelers to be careful in certain places because simply being black in some places can be dangerous. People doing mental gymnastics to deny racism and invalidate the experiences that black people go through (and have been going through for YEARS which is why we know what call out), is telling that y’all are not educated or well traveled yourselves. We’re not seeking to be liked by everyone, we’re seeing BASIC human decency and respect, which we should ALL get. And to point out places that have repeatedly had a problem meeting those standards is to give a realistic view of some of these places that are overhyped. If you’ve been to these places and haven’t had an issue or don’t mind that these issues exist, FINE! But that’s YOUR experience/decision, not everyone wants to be subjected to that bigotry 😒
The biggest threat to black people are other black people. Quit acting like racism only happens to black people when in reality it happens towards every race. Black people are racist as well just look at some of the hate crimes they've committed lately.
CZcams comment sections have always been extremely racist and I honestly was not surprised by it. CZcams comments is like if you took extreme Twitter and punt it ALL the way to other side of the spectrum. It’s sad.
I’m adopted and I feel ya because I’m mixed race and my Italian family was not happy about my other blood girl let me tell you super strange as we are what we are weather they like it or not who cares what they think they just jealous girl you are beautiful🥰
I had several bad racist experiences when my daughter and I visited years ago. One boutique owner told us to get out of her shop when we were going through the racks of clothing. Another man told us not to touch some fruit we were preparing to buy. The list goes on. There was one guy in another store who was quite pleasant and I bought a beautiful leather bag from him. He was, however, the exception because most people were not friendly and we couldn’t wait to leave. That’s one country I would never visit again.
In Europe you don't grab everything you want to buy, put it back, grab it, put it back. Especially FOOD! You tell them what you want and THEY will give it to you. And another thing. Until you paid for it, it does belong to the merchant. Americans need to learn about other cultures, the dos and don'ts before visiting those countries. That way you can enjoy your stay.
@@iriswilliams5621There's a little TRUTH in what you said but most of the rules you're talking about will not apply to white people nearly as much as to black and brown people. I will say i've NEVER ran into anything like that in Germany, i've had people pull me into their homes just to have lunch and i had to try in the nicest way to leave! I will say I just came back from Italy and the women there are different. I felt an all around sense of rudeness from women if not downright hatred. It wasn’t all women it was really the most attractive ones which I found strange. But maybe they are old school where women just hate on other women. I am so glad America has gotten past this and embraced lifting women up. I feel like they have a jealous culture
I went on a work trip to italy. Three blonde british women, and a black woman. I absolutely noticed they stare rudely and look you up and down, they were definitely judging us all, but i definitely felt they were hostile to my black friend!

I understand so many people complaining about talking about racism for the millionth time but, Italians are NOT shy to tell you they are racist, it is disgusting. If you don’t like the color of my skin, keep that to yourself and live your life. I don’t need to know…
One person's experience may not be another's. Sometimes you can cheat yourself out of a great adventure, and sometimes not. For instance, DO NOT go to the Dominican Republic if you are dark-skinned. They hate you, now THAT IS REAL. even though they are black themselves. It is even in the news, and on social media.
Sister, we were not wanted anywhere, so what are we supposed to do? You go to Africa they don't even want us over there either... they favor other races of people over us

I lived in Italy from 91-92. As a black American my experience w/ Italians was all positive. I did notice a bias against black Africans. It's a cultural bias not an ethnicity bias.
I really think it depends what area you go. It’s like in Paris, people are rude if you don’t speak French, whereas in smaller towns people are happy with any effort you make to learn their language

But that doesn't negate the facts she is speaking of either. I visited Italy in the early 2000's and I saw them treat African immigrants like trash and it was horrifying.

I went to Italy 2 times and was treated kindly. I am sure racism exists there. It exists all over the world. Even in Africa, if you're black, but not african you get treated differently. I've never lived there, so I'm not entirely sure if that's different, but I love the country and it was more comforting walking into nice neighborhoods and gift shops without being harassed or followed like they do in the states.
Its all about attitude and circumstance. I really hate generalising a nation.
It not enough to not be racist, to truly change thing you have to be ANTI racist. Someone should have stood up for my fiend and called out that racist woman but they kept their head down and said nothing. That makes them no better. All I know is had that been me. I would’ve ended up in an Italian jail because I black backside wouldn’t have moved an inch. To this day what happened to her infuriates me.
Is that a law or just a cultural norm in whatever part of Italy that was? My black a** would’ve stayed right there. Illegal or not they would’ve had to physically move me.

But that’s YOUR experience/decision, not everyone wants to be subjected to that bigotry 😒

this country is the woooorst towards poc especially black peoples !
@@briibrii4524Most of us can't even afford to visit a different state😂

I understand so many people complaining about talking about racism for the millionth time but, Italians are NOT shy to tell you they are racist, it is disgusting. If you don’t like the color of my skin, keep that to yourself and live your life. I don’t need to know…
She's right. People think America is bad. There are so many countries that are much worse. Italy is definitely one of them.
The one thing I love about watching black bloggers is that they give us a heads up. I have zero desire to go where I’m not wanted. Oh no
One person's experience may not be another's.
You go to Africa they don't even want us over there either... they favor other races of people over us
Well, we’re not really wanted nowhere.don’t understand it. Mystery to me🥺
@@marchell1230 this is unfortunately soo true. It’s like we have to choose countries that don’t want us the least you know?! What a shame.
They love us in Thailand
Well, as a 61 year old blk American woman who was spat on and called the N-word constantly while growing up in New England, I go wherever the h3ll I want. I don't give a darn how much you don't want me there. Live with it.
By the way, I found the people in Rome and Florence very pleasant.
✊🏽🤎💯stay strong sister, never bow to no one but YAH!!! All mighty!!!!
I'm Caucasian and was Born in Roxbury .
I have always been around people of Color.
Your Story is Exaggerated ! They spit on you ?
They like black Americans. Africans have a different experience I suppose
@@pixiet7321 A lot of Europeans aren't happy with the influx of African migrants.
Straight up,like, who cares what these things think, they should be worried about what I think about them...TF
I lived in Italy from 91-92. As a black American my experience w/ Italians was all positive. I did notice a bias against black Africans. It's a cultural bias not an ethnicity bias.
Personally I have not experienced that in Italy. Unfortunately racism is everywhere.
We were in Italy last October...not our experience. We're African-American and the people were nice.
Us too. Me and my two friends were there last July and had a great time. Everyone was welcoming and took great care of us. I'll be going back.
I really think it depends what area you go. It’s like in Paris, people are rude if you don’t speak French, whereas in smaller towns people are happy with any effort you make to learn their language
Yep but later that day or night had alot of good Ole colored jokes
Some people want to be accepted so bad that they can't see straight 😔
I bet you didn’t order cappuccino with your meal, but a good wine and a coffee After it.
I'm 55 and black. Ive never walked away from a racist encounter feeling like a victim. I'm from the south and I have what we call a very "smart" mouth.😅😅😅😅
Yes, we do 😂
Legend
U have to be careful in foreign countries with that smart mouth
Then you can call me southern
THAT PART! Being from the south makes us different😂😂😂
I don't think Italy is racist ,i think is very friendly .Italy save a lot of lives coming from Africa
Girl, speak for yourself 👈🏾 my daughter has an Italian husband and his family love her from Southern Italy. 👈🏾
My dad told me the same thing. He was so annoyed when he came back home, he said it wasn’t a friendly place for him
I'm glad
Well, not everywhere has to be as tolerant and as accepting as we here in the US..
I disagree with the above commentator, yes everyone should be “tolerant and accepting” because it’s their race and not something they can change wtf ? No there is no excuse for discrimination based off of race jeez. Don’t try to romanticize italian or european BS just because you’re american and trying to be “fair” to other cultures. no place for that egalitarian BS here.
@@scottcassell8220 i hate when yall keep using this excuse because all that was said is either simply stating a fact with these experiences or (like this commenter said) feelings based on the received racism.

Disclaimer: I am black who lived in Roma, Italy back in 1991- as a refugee for 1 year. Yes, there were few bad apples, but majority are very humble, cultured, carrying and welcoming. They gave me shelter, education and hope a hope to dream big. They instilled kindness and passion to all humanity in my heart. For that, I am always grateful. Forza Italia! Go Azure!!
BULL SHIT!!!🗿
Yeah, they don't like African immigrants. But black Americans they are okay with.
But that doesn't negate the facts she is speaking of either. I visited Italy in the early 2000's and I saw them treat African immigrants like trash and it was horrifying. I am glad you had a good experience but it doesn't absolve them of how they have treated people like her since. All I am saying is that it is possible that both experiences are true.
@@ari_an_yah as an African: migrants are treated as trash here too. No matter we are all "black". Mass migrations , illegal migrants , lot of crimes, fight for welfare - and everyone turns "racist", think about black Americans protesting against Ukraine refugees getting help and accommodations , migrants are seen like competitors and trouble makers.I sadly have to admit that a lot of rogues mix with good people and spoil everybody reputation.
Stop worrying about who likes you. I can't possibly be what you're living for. You need to live for liking yourself.
I’m African American and the Italians loved me.
