I was going to spend $XXX on a 18i8 audio interface and the ES was more affordable, with fewer wires to worry about and infinitely more capability because of it being DC coupled for CV in/out and integration with VCV rack over CV tools in Ableton.
Had one pre-ordered for months, just got it in the mail yesterday. Total gamechanger now that it's easy to split up channels for recording and test virtual modules before buying them.
So a big fat expensive Mordax Data was something I was saving up for. I could instead get a big fat expensive ES9 and do everything the Data does in VCVRack, and enjoy all the other functions of the ES9 as well. For a (ballpark) similar price.
This answered a lot of questions for me. I got started with Mirack and now have a filled out 280hp rack with some additional modules to switch out. But I’m not home a lot and I have lots of doodles on mirack I would like to incorporate into my actual rack, and was unsure of what the limitations of the module were. I’m assuming the same thing can be accomplished with an iPad and mirack? Anyway lovely video, cheers babes!
Awesome! Thanks a million :) Personally I haven't tried the Es-9 with Mirack but from what I've read online it should work. Modwiggler also has a tread on that. Hope this helps.
is this going to work in PRO TOOL (first) ? i mean is it going to work as a normal whatever focusrite scarlett soundcard? im interested only in multitrack recording and i want to avoid external soundcards ... ?? connecting usb from this module to mac laptop i can set the DAW (in my case pro tool) to have one track for every input of the module? correct?? no latency involved if i use it just for recording multitracks, right? (i have a macbook pro retina 2015 with 8gb ram) what about the power consumption? i saw it like 450 mA.... it's a lot. im currently using simple wooden doepfer case (capacity is 1200mA) and with this module current left will be not much! it's 1/3 of the total
I want to use my DAW(Ableton) as my sound source to send the audio from the DAW into the "ES-9" via USB to one of the "ES-9" outputs, from there to a filter module for example a "Doepfer A-106-5 SEM Filter", and from the "Doepfer A-106-5 SEM Filter", back to one of the "ES-9" inputs, back to the DAW via USB. My goal is to give digital sound a warmth character through modular filter modules Is that possible? Greetz
The module is great but the noise floor is too high for sound design .Also some outputs can be louder than others by a few dB Buyers beware I have one and I’m still tryna sort out this nightmare.
I can’t even get audio from es-9 into Ableton or VCV rack. Spent 15 hours trying to get it work. Id warn anyone thinking of buy ES-9 to run away. It’s garbage.
The quality of usb-C cable are very important, and pay attention to the hub du you use! You can have a lot off frizz in Ableton whit bad cable! And don’t forget to activate the inputs and outputs! On clicking on the left side bouton near the field you can enter the name of the in or output menu!
Yes, I haven't covered that in this video but you can. Documentation is very complete on this from Expert Sleepers, I would recommend having a look there.

Great video, thanks :)
Loving the new space.
Thanks a million :)
I like your videos, u deserve more subs for sure!
I appreciate that! Spread the word :) More videos to come.
Sounds like a great way to incorporate computer based plug-in effects rather than investing in each individual module and taking up all that space
Absolutely!

Awesome!
One thing that VCV rack brings to table is the ability to try stuff out in virtual form before investing the $$$ in the equiv hardware.
Sure thing

Excellent! Enjoy it :)
Would you guys know if this es-9 would make the intellijel audio interface II redundant?
New studio!!
Yes! :)
@@TheModularClubhouse congrats!
Great video thanks. I'm trying to get the ES-9 working in ableton with the VCV Rack 2 VST, without much luck. Have you managed to get that working?
I haven't tried the paid version of VCV Rack 2 (nor the VST plugins). But I will reach out to them and see if we can work on something together.

Thanks:) Would love to see a demo of it set up with MiRack on iPad/iPhone if you have either of those?!
That's a great idea! Will look into the possibilities
Could make for a great portable set-up!:)

I don't have any experience in Protools to be honest, maybe someone in the community can answer it.
I want to use my DAW(Ableton) as my sound source to send the audio from the DAW
into the "ES-9" via USB to one of the "ES-9" outputs,
from there to a filter module for example a "Doepfer A-106-5 SEM Filter",
and from the "Doepfer A-106-5 SEM Filter",
back to one of the "ES-9" inputs,
back to the DAW via USB.

Where is the 1.2 es9 confit tool can’t find it anywhere?
It's here: www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/es9firmware.html
Thanks a million Os!
ne neither -- any joy? it says there's two replies to this comment but one must be hidden lol, can't see it

That shouldn't be the case. If you have technical issues please email for support or post on the forum.
Hey John, just wanted to follow up. Were you able to fix your issues?
@@TheModularClubhouse No unfortunately not
@@johndean5860 Sorry to hear that, have you reached out to Os?
Are you passing data via the USB cable while using it? If so try a USB ground loop isolator, it should fix your problem.
can this be used as a clock source?
Sure thing! Just use something like CV Tools Clock or VCV Rack to send the clock signal to the ES-9
I can’t even get audio from es-9 into Ableton or VCV rack. Spent 15 hours trying to get it work. Id warn anyone thinking of buy ES-9 to run away. It’s garbage.
For me it was just Plug&Play with VCV rack; did you update the firmware of your es-9?
Thanks for clarifying :D

Have you installed the audio drivers, and does the usb cable you are using support data(not just charging)?
can i use it as a mixer?
Yes, I haven't covered that in this video but you can. Documentation is very complete on this from Expert Sleepers, I would recommend having a look there.
