Jurassic Park Part 2 - The Chaos Continues Playthrough (SNES) (HARD MODE) (BEST ENDING)

  • I remember going to the video store back in 1996 to rent a movie and seeing the SNES game rentals and seeing that there was 2 Jurassic Park games available to rent and having just watched and become OBSESSED with the movie, I ended up renting this game immediately. I do remember being confused at which game was which, but it didn't matter since I had to play this game! Well after plugging it in and playing for 5 or 10 mins, I was struck by a few things: this game looks really cool, I love blasting dinosaurs and holy shit are the raptors ever fast and this game is bloody hard! Having said that though I loved the fact that there multiple levels to pick from whenever I got tired of dying over and over on some other level. And attempting battle the T.Rex was both equally awesome and downright terrifying to a 5 yr old. Needless to say I didn't manage to get anywhere in this game for probably close to 10 years. When I did end up owning this game quite few years down the road I started to love it even more...especially when I got a small breakthrough in beating a couple of the levels (The Gallimimus level and the Underground Raptor Nest level). I kept at it over the next few years and eventually when I was 16 or 17 yrs old I finally finished while a thunder and lightning storm raged outside my window with blue flashes of lightning illuminating the room along the flashes of explosions from the game. A very cool and vivid memory to say the least. As for the game itself since there was no sequel to the movie yet I see the game as a neat little "what-if" scenario and spiritual successor to the first movie/game in a way. Except this time it owes far more to the run n' gun style of Contra then the top-down open world gamplay of the first game (except for the Doom-esque indoor sections) which seemed to owe more to Zelda then anything. With a very cool animated intro, excellent music, great play control, plenty of weapons and the ability to have a 2 player co-op this made the game a particular favorite for me and my friends growing up. Except that the game is very hard and unforgiving and requires near-perfect reflexes for some parts. The last couple Emergency Missions were pure hell trying to memorize...especially the wounded scout level in the mountains. And only being able to access the final 2 levels on Hard Mode, hence get the real ending, made the game a real grind especially when your continues/lives are reduced from 6 down to 3 really made this one a tough nut to crack. While the game is an unforgiving bastard at points it still stands (along with the first game) as among my top SNES games of all time and is easily in my top 10 games on the SNES. Its well worth your time and certainly worth picking up if you can find a copy (its much more uncommon than the first game). Just be prepared to practice lots! This was done on my actual cartridge.
    Hope You Enjoy!

      @@RentalRewindGaming oh yes I remember the lost world game. That was definitely a hard one too. Chaos continues still remains a superior game though, just the look of it and style make it one of the best JP games in my opinion, probably beaten only by the Sega saturn version of JP1. I can't really think of any JP game as easy to get through, even trespasser is quite hard albeit because of it's buggy controls

    • @thekingsean92
      @thekingsean92 Před 4 lety

      @@RentalRewindGaming I believe a new game similar to trespasser would indeed work in today's age, especially since we have survival horror games like alien isolation wich is a great Alien video game. I ear they are actually making a new action JP survival game called aftermath but it has to be confirmed. I was really sad when JP survival was cancelled on ps2. Hope they find a good way to balance action and exploration if they do this new one, frankly I don't think the latest games in the franchise have done it justice, probably because I'm not a big fan of construction/strategy games but operation genesis and Jurassic world evolution don't attract me at all.

      @RentalRewindGaming  Před 3 lety

      It's all good and you are certainly not loosing it! This game it seems to get a tad bit forgotten about since everyone seems to remember the first SNES Jurassic Park game or the Sega Genesis Jurassic Park game because you could play as the Raptor and such. I remember renting this when I was 5 (which would have been around the time it was new and had just come out I think) and loving it but certainly not really getting anywhere with it either lol. And the fact that there were two JP games but only one movie at the time confused me as well. Hence, when my dad was cool enough to go and buy a JP game for me from the movie rental store he picked the first one (the yellow label one as I used to call it) and NOT this one and I remember kinda wanting this one more lol! Good times though regardless of which game in hindsight. Glad I was able to help prove that it was not a fever dream! Cheers!

    Cheers for sharing your history with this forgotten title, Rental Rewind.
    One of the reasons you probably got confused with the two SNES games were those totally generic black box covers they used in some regions.
    I imagine a few folks in America just glossed over the box for Chaos Continues whilst browsing the shelves, assuming it was just the first game instead of a sequel. A very poor marketing strategy.
    Here in Australia both Jurassic Park SNES games had their own distinct covers, with the first game having a lush jungle cover, and Chaos Continues having a cool photo of the T-Rex and tour jeep from the film.

    • @RentalRewindGaming
      @RentalRewindGaming  Před rokem

      Not a problem! It's kinda fun to think back and reminice on these games in the description section. Might as well put it down in text while I can still somewhat remember it lol! Regarding the lovely cover mix up welll....yeah....that is EXACTLY what happened lol! Plus, being 5 yrs old didn't help either. Even when I would go back to rent it, or my dad would rent it we both could not remember which one was which. Same thing happened when my dad decided to just buy the game since itd be cheaper to buy it then keep renting it. And I do very SPECIFICALLY remember asking for the "red jurassic park game" and not the "yellow one, that has the gate that's hard to open". Makes me snicker now when I think back. I saw many years later that most everywhere else had different covers to help differentiate between the two, which I can happily agree was a much better idea.

      @@cherokeefit4248 It's an extremely tough one. Possibly the hardest JP game of them all honestly, and I have beaten 90% of ALL the JP games out there too. I find that it really pushes the platforming and memorization skills to the limit at points. Especially the end parts. A great example is the final battle with Biosyn Chopper. I forgot the order and strategy on how to quickly and effectively take out the parts on the Chopper to beat it and I made a mistake and blew an otherwise perfect run of the game right at they very end of it. That was a very bitter pill to swallow, but it was literally the best I could do and the best I had ever done with the game by a country mile so I was like "...screw it, good enough". But still, its downright ruthless in spots. The only one that could rival it, for me at least, is Lost World on PS1. That game is downright cruel.........
