In 2013 Nick McNutt entered TGR’s Co-Lab competition. Skiing out of his hometown of Whistler, British Columbia his smooth buttery style, switch landings, and easygoing persona caught the eyes of the TGR team. Although, he would eventually fall short of winning the $100,000 grand prize McNutt felt like the right addition to the TGR crew. So this year when deciding whom we were going to film for our new ski film, Almost Ablaze, Nick McNutt was the easy and natural choice.
He joined the production crew in Jackson Hole and Revelstoke to film for the new flick. Nick earned his stripes, showing why he deserves a place alongside seasoned TGR athletes Sage Cattabriga-Alosa and Tim Durtschi. We are stoked for the world to see his segment this fall in the film. To introduce you to Nick we are sharing his original Co-Lab edit. If you enjoy what you see be sure to check out Nick McNutt this fall in Almost Ablaze.

Brilliant - bloody brilliant filmmaking and of course fabulous skiing - McNutt is a bloody God to be sure - the type of skier I aspired to be during my decade in the Bow Valley ^^ 82-92 ^ç - rippin up Outer Limits at the Lake on my 215cm super-Gs, then, in search of something softer, we would all head down to tour Rogers pASS pulling out an old thrashed pair of Atomic RC 203 GS boards fitted with touring bindings - Also shabbily dressed, like McNutt, we were far from a fashion benders, though this is where the similarities ended...The lines McNutt is putting down we could not even dream of back then....just linking some good turns while keeping your skis on top of the snowpack and your shoulders square to the fall line was considered a great run......You can tell that Mcnutt has his focus is purely on the skiing where it should be ^^two big thumbs up¨¨we could only dream of the kind of skiing McKnutt is now treating us to - throwing down those sic park tricks, 720 tail grabs and huge switch moves and all in the backcountry and off a fifty foot rock face far from adoring fans - I just love it man and so wish I was 24 again instead of 56 with two advanced arthritic knees hobbling along with a walker while I await surgery.....Thus, I am now an armchair skier and it is with a tinge of melancholy that I watch yet another new generation of young lads rise to the top, and they are doing so with such style and grace and also humility - no room for big egos in the rarified air of the Canadian Rockies or the BC interior - really is so cool to see such a humble bunch of athletes, ie: the TGR crew, coalesce around one another, cheering each other on, a great example of true sportsmanship and friendship to be sure! My days are done and it hurts both physically and mentally - When you spend the majority of your life devoted to climbing and skiing and then it all ends so abruptly. Your closest friends slowly start other chapters of their own lives - It really is akin to losing your self, your identity, you no longer know who you really are? seriously, man, it is true existential angst - however, I have learned to cope with it through a lot of reading and self-examination. Thus, I have come to understand or realize that the only constant in this life is change and the sooner one comes to terms with this perennial truth, the easier life becomes - keep up the wonderful filmmaking and McNutter I hope to see you in many more films as I love your style kid! You really are one of the best freeskiers to come along in some time - hooking up with TGR is a testament to this fact - definitely the top crew of freeskiers and filmmakers on the planet - stay safe people and keep on keeping on - Peace!
